What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is feature-complete and has been in Open Beta for 3 months. While most of the fundamental aspects of Soul Reaper are already good to go, we're not quite ready to call it "complete" just yet. There's still a fair amount we can touch up to bring the game to new heights, and that's where you come in!

Early Access will allow users to get a feel for how the game handles while granting us time to flesh out the environments, loot/monster combinations, and story. We'll be taking feedback all throughout the process, allowing us to deliver a polished product by the end of the Early Access period.

We'll be providing updates every few weeks as to where the team currently stands, and we'll be monitoring the game's reception closely while we implement new patches. We want to make Soul Reaper the best game we can possibly can, and Early Access is a vital component in achieving this goal.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It's difficult to know an exact date, but we're hoping to release the finalized game 3 months after Early Access begins.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Soul Reaper will feature additional story content (more endings, further dialogue sequences, extra narrative to explore, etc.), more polish (making environments look nicer, better enemy behaviour, improvements to collision detection, etc.), and implementations based on user feedback (bug fixes, balancing changes, etc.)

Steam Achievements and full controller support coming shortly after Feb 4th release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Soul Reaper build contains the finalized amount of monsters (80+ monsters), loot (around 250 loot pieces), and levels (3 main areas to explore) users will experience in the full game. Story is intact, but missing portions will be added in the final build. Bugs and balancing issues may be present.

The Early Access build will initially launch for Windows 10, but will expand to include support for Mac systems shortly after.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will not change when moving from Early Access to the full release. However, by taking part in our development journey, you'll have your say in how you want the game to improve. It's like being an assistant-designer... just without getting paid. (Mwahaha!)”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Give us all the brutally honest feedback you can, don't hold back!

Especially the Soul Reaper. He may be all bones, but these are really solid bones! Who knew souls were actually better than calcium for bones?

Seriously though, we're a passionate team who are eager to bring you an exciting game. It all begins with a collaboration between you and us.

So yeah, let's make this a reality together! Feel free to use the "Contact" feature on our website, or get in touch with us on Steam's Community Forums! (We also have a new discord server you can take advantage of if you'd like to DM the Community Manager directly, check out our "Social" tab on our site for the link!)”

About This Game

Soul Reaper is a turn-based RPG that rewards careful planning and meticulous strategy. After surviving a psyche-splitting attack from The Midnight Council, players take control of the Soul Reaper as he quests to rebuild his army and become whole once again. By defeating monsters in combat, users can reap the souls of their enemies and allocate them to serve several unique purposes. Souls can be:

  • Organized into 3x3 battle squads to fight in combat.
  • Fused with other souls to boost a creature’s XP.
  • Devoured by the Soul Reaper himself to advance his own stats.
  • Smithed into loot pieces that both the Soul Reaper and his troops can wear.
  • Slotted into equipment to add or enhance attributes.

With many ways to divvy up your souls, it’s up to you to decide how best to utilize this vital resource. Scour the land in search for treasure to help you on your journey, and unlock new abilities on the overworld by bringing bosses to their knees. Regain your emotions by slaying the sentient Reaper Fragments, and defeat The Midnight Council before The Vault comes crashing down with you inside it.

Soul Reaper draws inspiration from both classic and contemporary RPG titles. Some games you might be reminded of while playing are:

  • Pokemon: Once you're hooked on collecting souls, you'll wanna reap 'em all.
  • Diablo: Loot with more stats than you can shake a '+50% stick-shaking' stick at.
  • Final Fantasy: Side view turn-based combat, just like the old days!
  • Castlevania: Aria/Dawn of Sorrow: Slay monsters, get souls. Repeat.

  • 80+ Creatures to Reap and Collect. Encounter unique and expressive monsters throughout The Vault. Arrange your creatures in up to nine squads, or slot them into loot pieces for extra bonuses. Have a few souls you don’t want? Smith them into items, or devour them for quick XP!
  • Explore Vast Landscapes for Treasure. The Vault is comprised of three layers: Volcanheim, Elysium, and Polarus. Each component presents a drastically different climate, with treasure chests scattered throughout each zone.
  • Addictive Turn-Based Combat With Deep Strategy. Exploit type advantages, unit arrangement, and more to turn the tide in your favor. Slot souls into the Soul Reaper’s equipment to unlock more attacks, and command your squads to victory.
  • Fight at Your Own Pace. Accelerate the game’s battle speed up to x3, or outmaneuver enemies on the overworld to avoid combat entirely.
  • Different Fragments, Different Outcomes. The Soul Reaper’s behavior changes based on which Fragment the player selects. Interactions with NPCs are influenced by the shift in ego, and the story will unfold differently depending on how many Fragments the player has acquired.
  • Fearsome Bosses With Exciting Powers. Besting the boss monsters in combat will grant unique abilities in return. Smash rocky terrain with the Balboa, and extinguish flaming geysers with the Elephount! Return to former areas to explore new paths, and overcome obstacles previously blocking your way.
  • Blood-Pumping Soundtrack. Tracks are crafted to fit the style of each region, and the boss theme presents a climactic overhaul of the already adrenaline-fueled battle music.
