What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Server will be stress tested to ensure smooth online play. We are unable to test locally a large amount of players using the Server from a large amount of different locations and latencies, so this is a vital process which will need to be completed. Fortunately for us scaling hardware is not a big deal and the game already supports packet management for players in different maps.

Some of the graphical user interfaces in-game still need to be re-done which will be completed before the Early Access is finished in 1 months time. We are in the process of working them as I type this message and the new interface is much cleaner and faster loading than its traditional RPG interface.

The server may need a few changes too. As we add more players we will test loads of try to discover any bottlenecks that may be occurring in the code and ensure they are tested and fixed prior to the end of Early Access.

Expect live adjustments to the Server but a typical re-boot only takes about 1 minute of down time during a new version change. Our Server code is fast to boot, and very fast to shutdown, everything is saved on the fly in-case users decide to quit mid-game. Storage requirements will also need to be considered but so far our testing has concluded we have about 600 players that have tested the game and so far our Database is less than half a MB and it's still lightning fast at retrieval since it's all done in random access memory.

Apart from the technical reasons the final reason we want to open in Early Access is the game is fast becoming just plain damn fun. I have rolled several new characters testing allot of features one-by-one and I still joined a party with a player and had an excellent time playing!! I have played a few RPG's and taken the good aspects of various games and included what I could into this game. In EA there is no death penalty aside from spawning back at the centre of maps so if you die to a much Stronger enemy or swarmed by Several enemies its not rage quit worthy.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect it to be about 1 month. After then the main features I expect to be completed along with maybe some extra features which are yet to be announced.
This is a living product in that there are constant updates and changes going on from a technical and user game play point of view.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have a cohesive graphical user interfaces. The server will also be ironed out and more stable. Once Early Access is over there will be automatic daily reboots which will only occur for up to a minute.
Expect that will be having a dedicated Player vs Player map that is dedicated and will not have Monsters to keep latency down to a minimum.
Expect instanced dungeons that players can party with there mates in mazes that will have end Bosses that drop rare loot.
More quests will also be added, and story lines will be elaborated.
The guild system will be made more friendly instead of using commands.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

The player menus are done.
You can Fight, Level, Quest, Shop, Auction, Enchant, customise Looks, Repair, Party.
The NPC interfaces need more work.
There are currently 3 main maps to explore and a town house for safe NPC access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. During launch we will have 40% off to encourage new users to try and play. The standard price will be fixed and we do not intend on increasing it. There will be no monthly subscription to use our Live Server(s).

Q: What about if I don't have a constant Online connection?
A: Well I cant make any promises but I do not see why we cant in future make an Offline version that de-synchs with the main Server and re-synchronises at a later stage. The issue is local play may encourage cheating which is why I thought that maybe we could have it so when the user re-syncs with the server added XP increases is capped, and gold increments is limited and items are not transferred over or not dropped on the offline version. All this is a offline play idea is in very early stages and subject to change, added or dropped.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will be frequently going in-game to test new features and listen to feedback for improvement and suggestions. Out of game we can use steam to communicate and we have a discord server which I (Head Developer) am on very frequently.
The early access users will be involved in bug-hunting the Client and Server, and may even feel like contributing to the open source nature of the Client. There will be in-game rewards for contributions and Early Access users who financially support RRO2.
