Reviews

“Not only is each tower a puzzle contained unto itself, but there's the added factor that when you improve your scores in the individual towers, you earn medals which can then be spent to make your character stronger in ANY of the towers, contributing to a "meta game". So the idea is once you've gone through those twelve towers once and earned twelve medals, you can then go back and replay all of them to earn even BETTER medals, then go through them all again, so on and so forth, forever. (Some towers you can't really "finish" until you come back with tons of medals. Ten medals in, and I still haven't seen all of the tutorial tower.)”

“There are currently 12 maps open, but what the creators say is that 1000 hours of play time are required to achieve the highest rating of any map. I also played about 100 hours in the trial version I received from the official site and didn't even go near the top of the ratings, most achieved only a 1st or 2nd evaluation.(This description in parentheses is by the developer. At the time of the review, there was an event where you could play 12 games of the main package as a trial version)”

About This Game

About the Game

Enter the Tactical Nexus:

What lies underneath the cute and colorful pixel-art RPG facade is nothing less than one of the world’s most difficult hand-crafted puzzle games. A combination of resource management, logic puzzles, and tantalizing power-ups are your tools to climb up the enemy-riddled floors of each Magic Tower! Tactical Nexus is a single-player Magic Tower game inspired by the classic game “Tower of the Sorcerer,” combining magic, power-ups, and multitudes of monstrous foes to defeat and delve deeper into each Tower!

From the team:

This is our Puzzle RPG that can be played for 10,000 hours. A resource management game with overwhelming “quality-of-life functionality" to conquer puzzles with overwhelmingly high difficulty. One of the world's top 3 indie games in terms of average play time.

Features and Content

  • The base game includes twelve Magic Towers, with dozens of hand-crafted floors to navigate, explore, and grow your power! The base game can reward you for hundreds of hours of gameplay with continued meta progress that allows you to take another step further!

  • There are no random elements used, no procedural generation, and to advance you’ll need to find the best way through your enemies and reach the ‘Clear’ tile. Every tower will remain the same each time you play it, yet you can grow stronger!

  • Undo and redo every action instantly! Save, and see what happens when you try things in a different order or do something a little different! Load into a previous game state instantly and compare with Status Stamps!

  • Scout each Magic Tower’s depths to further your own insight and plan meticulous routes with shareable Memos!

  • Score well to earn meta-progression resources, Sunstones and Medals. Reuse them each time that you start a Magic Tower, and unlock new depths! Face the difficult Nexus stage, or perhaps even the terrifying ‘Clowns’!

  • Achieve ‘Pure’ scores for more Sunstones rewards by playing a tower without meta-progression medals.

  • Thousands of hours of deep strategy and tactical decision making gameplay are able to be enjoyed without any mindless grind: Return to each Magic Tower with more meta resources to improve your score, obtain more Sunstones and upgrade your Medal to the max, and repeat the cycle, with each step only becoming a more difficult puzzle to solve!

  • Blunder your way through the world’s most accessible NP-hard problems disguised as treasure rooms with trillions upon trillions of permutations and even more novel solutions.

  • No microtransactions! Advance only by the best Tactical strategy! Each DLC contains several complete hand-crafted Magic Towers with dozens of floors, new mechanics and gimmicks, each with new meta progression resources, adding another layer of meta progress to all previous towers for a compounding effect of thousands of hours of gameplay!

  • Take on the later DLC Magic Towers when you’re ready, without needing to wait for them to be on sale: Tactical Nexus DLC will not be discounted before 2027!

  • No mods and no NSFW derivative works are permitted due to various legal limitations. TeamNexus strongly encourages use of its systems and design, so feel free to implement a ‘Nexus system’ into your own game or mods for other games!

Join the Human Hive Mind

A robust Discord community server invites all players to share their high scores as well as their Memos and strategic insight. Work together to find the best solutions that you can—there will always be a way to improve! Become the trailblazing hero with the most Sunstones, find new routes and solutions, or make new friends as you learn to play one of the world’s hardest games!

"Won't using the Discord for help make the game no fun?"

This is normally the case for a puzzle game, and in a few situations, you might find a particular experience more hollow in Tactical Nexus due to the help you receive, but Tactical Nexus does avoid a common 'pitfall' of difficult puzzle games:

it never ends or runs out of genuinely novel problems with extremely particular solutions.

Tactical Nexus remains in active development with more DLC on the way!

The small development team is always looking for feedback, will respond to your messages and questions on the Discord server, and even implement your suggestions.
