Why Early Access?

“Railroads is still incomplete and only has a few hours of content. We wish to roll out more chapters and content over time. There is no definitive end to the campaign yet. We may roll out as many chapters as we see fit, starting with the three we have planned so far.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Railroads will exit early access when the next two chapters have been completed. As most of our core design has been completed, our schedule is to exit early access and release a full version by the end of 2019 - 6 months from launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

Each chapters contains different game mechanics for you to explore.
We have three chapters planned for Railroads:
  • The Birdman (completed)
  • The Necromancer
  • The Dead Sea

For the second chapter of the Necromancer; we aim to explore explosives such as land mines, tnt and new weaponry themed to fit. We are unsure yet of how many rooms we plan to roll out in the second chapter but it is planned to be lengthier than the first. The Dead Sea needs further development and will be published to the community when we have an idea.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The first completed chapter mostly revolves around simple melee combat, the minecart and of course the 4 rooms.
There is at least about 2-3 hours worth of content for you to explore:
  • 4 Rooms
  • At least 5 weapons which can also be upgraded
  • 25+ Achievements
  • Each playthrough will be generated differently thanks to our procedural code

After you complete a chapter, we intentionally lock the saves so that when we release new content you do not run into any scaling issues. We recommend making a new save if you'd like to keep playing and avoiding the boss fights.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Money raised will support the future development of Railroads. The cost of Railroads will increase over time. We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

About This Game

What is Railroads?
Developed by a team of two, a new adventure awaits for you in the Railroads.
Uncover the memories of a nomad who once travelled through an abandoned mine.
Every playthrough is designed to be placed differently thanks to random/procedural generation.

The Tracks
The Railroads are an endless trail of tracks. In the early stages, you face hordes of undead miners.
Contents of the tracks are changed as the player progresses throughout the story.
They are also the grounds for resourcing building before the player chooses to unlock the rooms.

While the adventure down the tracks is infinite, you may come across restricted areas called rooms. Rooms are designed to be unique challenges for you to complete and offer story progression. Completing rooms unlocks more difficult rooms which reward you with higher tier content. After rooms are completed, they will also introduce new gameplay to the tracks. Most of the content in the rooms are arranged differently each save. Some rooms may contain special bosses which unlock new special equipment.

The developers describe the content like this:

When the limbs of miners are blown off, blood splat decals may paint across the floor. There is no more detail to that, the limbs fall off like lego.
There are also some bloody particle effects when an enemy is attacked.
