Why Early Access?

“When making PrimeOrbial, we adopted twin mottos: “Physics First” and “Direction But No Set Paths.” That is, our gameplay had to be emergent (if physics allows it we have to allow it), and it had to both look and feel great at all times. But beyond that we, the developers, need to stay out of the way between how our players want to solve something and what extreme/fantastical physics allow them to do. Even if the emergent gameplay isn’t what we thought we wanted or originally intended.

So we did that. We think. But now, we’ve put so many capabilities in the game and World Creator toolset, that we can’t predict how it will be played any more. Playtesters prior to Early Access have dashed all our expectations of how they would leverage powered-up physics to complete levels, use power ups/weaponry, combat villains and quickly build worlds while actively playing inside of them. Most told us they had a great time, but they have so many questions and are all playing it so very differently with so many breathless ideas and directions...we felt we needed a much larger group of players and a much longer collaboration period with those players so that we could hone in on the core aspects of the game that players would most enjoy.

Maybe we got it perfectly right out of the box, but we doubt it. We want tough love and an honest assessment from our players, so we can tune this game to be something singular and great. We want PrimeOrbial to be a place gamers will think about sometimes when they aren’t playing, and look forward to going back into the RainbowVerse and learn to just...play again.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Depending on how you, our community responds to us, we will craft a roadmap for PrimeOrbial that will take approximately 1 or 2 years. We will lean toward 2 years if we get a ton of feedback requesting features that are not currently in the game. If you, our players, are wanting more of what we've already spent many years crafting, then we will be able to exit early access sooner.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The goal for the full release is to have received feedback from you, our players, and to expand on the features you enjoy most.

Some players will want to extend the in-game AI programming tools and craft multiplayer robot battles where the person with the better code wins.

Some players will want more beautiful trees and flowers and mountains to make their 3D worlds with.

Other players will simply want more pre-made levels to enjoy either on their own or in shared online multiplayer experiences.

Depending on which features you, our players, gravitate to the most, we will determine what to do more of to cater to you, our community.

Features we are currently developing:

- World Creator Training: Learn to use the World Creator step-by-step!
- Online Multiplayer Coop: Cooperate with friends and perform physics-based stunts together!

Features we are planning to include in the full release:

- 30+ additional worlds to explore as part of the single player experience
- More unique music tracks, created with input from our player community
- Finishing of sound effects for the game, including movement sounds, moving object sounds, and ambient environmental sounds.
- Magic / spell system and abilities
- Additional weapons and AI creature types
- More shape-changing abilities and skills
- Additional coop game modes
- More World Creator level sets and prefabs”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current game has 10 levels that we have already made, as well as the complete in-game World Creator that you can use to make your own unique hand-crafted levels.

Music is in the game, enjoy!

Sound effects are in-game, though not completely finished yet.

PrimeOrbial is currently both a physics action-platformer with a high skill ceiling and ability-combo chaining, and a physics-sandbox World Creator.

PrimeOrbial is already the type of game you could spend hours with just making physics experiments, refining the beauty of a hand-crafted garden, blasting AI to bits in a 3D maze of your own construction, or simply enjoying the core physics-based gameplay mechanics.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As we develop additional features, the Early Access price will increase to reflect the added value. No one who joins us early will be expected to pay any additional fee for core game content added during the early access development cycle. Multiplayer and the World Creator training worlds will be provided as part of the core game content.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“PrimeOrbial will be many things to many people. We have been developing technologies within the game for over a decade. Players have the power to make their own 3D worlds, use a 3D scripting language to create puzzles and make dynamic changes in the environment. They can program AI units with a custom programming language, use an in-game modeling tool to make unique geometry, and craft their own experience with our in-game tools. We want your input on the features you enjoy most, and we want to know of any features you'd like to see added.

It is our greatest wish to have your feedback as we continue to develop the game. We want to start hearing your perspectives as we mold the game into the game that you can call home, and everyone will have their own reasons for feeling at home in PrimeOrbial!
