What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Outbreak: Epidemic will strive to revitalize the co-op survival horror genre through a unique free-to-play model where the community is key to building great content. Building the title alongside a passionate player base will allow us to iterate on feedback quickly and ensure the content and quality meets expectations before a full release is targeted. Game modes, scenarios, gameplay mechanics and other content will be directly driven by community interest.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“This title will be in Early Access for a significant period. We will be building major content additions during this time and we expect it to last many months, if not longer before targeting a full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will include all game modes, scenarios, gameplay mechanics and other content that will be designed and integrated during the Early Access period. You can expect more content to be added over time.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version supports single-player and co-op gameplay with up to four players. The Early Access version will be missing content like scenarios, game modes and other content that will be added during the Early Access period. Many core gameplay mechanics are present and will continue to be refined over time. You can expect that you'll be able to jump in with up to three friends and play content from the Campaign Mode, Onslaught Mode and Experiments Mode during Early Access. You should expect to experience some bugs including performance, gameplay, etc... during Early Access that will be corrected and polished over time.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. Although the base game is free-to-play, there will be premium content to unlock additional characters, customization, difficulty modes and more. During Early Access, this content will be provided at a discount to encourage the player base to grow.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will be involved through our Steam discussion boards and our livestreams. We'll be directly soliciting feedback from players and using it to help refine and build the game.”

Outbreak: Epidemic v1.62 Patch Released - Single-player Balancing!

We're happy to announce v1.6 of Outbreak: Epidemic has been released! This patch greatly focuses on improving the single-player experience.

When playing in Single-Player Mode, you will now have a much larger inventory by default to offset your lack of teammates. Characters like the Renegade will still get their inventory buffs, but now this makes most of the other characters viable!

In addition, on Easy and Normal difficulty, you will now find more supplies on both Realism Mode and Arcade Mode, and encounter fewer powerful enemies when you're assaulted by mobs. This primarily took the form of reducing the number of Reptiles thrown at you at once in set piece moments.

Thank you everyone for your feedback! We've had an awesome week of growth for the game! Remember - if you're enjoying the game, be sure to leave a positive review and share your thoughts. If you hit issues, bugs, or have feedback, reach out to me anytime before filing a negative review - I might be able to help fix it quick!

Also, we pushed a quick patch v1.61 that allows you to disable the Weather in the Options menu. This may help with lower-end computers trying to run the game. Enjoy!

Note 2 - We just released v1.62 which fixed the issue where changing your player side (left or right) in the main menu didn't work correctly.

Outbreak: Epidemic v1.5 Patch Released - Realism Mode!

We're happy to announce the v1.5 patch for Outbreak: Epidemic is released! This release contains a major new feature - realism mode - based on the huge amount of feedback we've received.

Please post feedback on Realism Mode here!

This patch includes:
  • Realism Mode - This brand new way of playing Outbreak: Epidemic notches up the realism by significantly boosting headshot damage - meaning many standard enemies could be killed in a single well placed headshot. But as a trade-off, you now have much less resources to work with. You need to make every bullet count if you want to survive. Advanced monsters can still take a beating, but your only way to defeat them is by going for the head! NOTE: Like the old way Epidemic played? It's still available - just switch back to Arcade Mode in your game lobby!
  • Fixed an issue where quick weapon switching could happen while menus are up.
  • The blood effects when you take damage are now toned way down and will not obscure much of the screen.
  • Weapons now zoom in when aiming.
  • A rare issue where flashlights would become very dim is fixed.

About This Game

The infection spreads like never before in Outbreak: Epidemic, the free-to-play co-op survival horror nightmare from Dead Drop Studios. Experience the nationwide epidemic as you and up to three friends lead Gwen, Renault, Kara and Tom through the undead apocalypse. Outbreak: Epidemic features the series classic tough-as-nails survival horror gameplay powered by the next-generation Outbreak engine. Experience the nightmare close up through over-the-shoulder claustrophobic gameplay as you blast and slash your way through the epidemic.

The free-to-play version allows you to play up to 4-player co-op (or solo) on any game mode or scenario across the Campaign, Onslaught and Experiments modes, so there's never a time where you can't group up and take on the undead. You'll have access to pick a single character and starting class, with some limited restrictions on progression and other systems. The free-to-play version also limits you to starting games on Easy or Normal difficulty (but you can join games on any difficulty). When you're ready to experience more of the nightmare, you can choose to buy an upgrade to unlock all the characters, their classes and the additional difficulty options.

The epidemic will begin as an Early Access experience where over time more content, including scenarios, game modes and more will become available. Any premium content will be offered at a discount during the Early Access phase. Your feedback will directly shape the game and your support will help it grow into the survival horror experience the world has been waiting for. You only have one life, can you survive the epidemic?
