What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’ve been inviting players to playtest Timberborn since the very first months of its development in 2019. Beaver city-builders aren’t exactly an established genre, and your voice helps us decide what works and what doesn’t. Thanks to that feedback, the core of the game is here, it’s fun to play, and we want to make it available for everyone.

We will now be adding more content ahead of the full release, and Early Access players will help us choose where to go next. During that time, Timberborn will still have that work-in-progress smell of fresh lumber.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the Early Access to last at least a year. While we have ideas for what needs to be done before the full release (see below), players’ feedback affects that and we’re ready to put in additional time.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Timberborn has been evolving based on what players want and that remains the plan for Early Access. The players’ suggestions dictate the specifics, but we will create more maps and add at least one new beaver faction. We will also implement quality of life improvements and ways of altering the game’s difficulty.

Our work will continue on the in-game mechanics. Whether that means more water-related gameplay, an expanded science system, additional resources or new food chains – or something entirely different such as a trading system – depends on the feedback we receive.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“You may pick from two playable beaver factions and there’s a total of 50+ buildings, some of them faction-exclusive. There are 7 maps included in the game, and you can create your own map using the built-in editor or download one of the maps shared by other players. You’ll be playing an endless survival mode where you expand your beaver colony while the world alternates between wet and ever deadlier dry seasons.

All core mechanics are here but may require further iterations. That includes vertical architecture, terraforming, dams with water physics, irrigation, food chains, power grids, district system, wellbeing system, day and night cycles.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price after Early Access. There might be seasonal discounts during Early Access, including a launch discount for early adopters.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We’ve got an official Discord server with thousands of users where we interact with the community every day. There’s an active channel dedicated to gathering suggestions as well as what we call “Beaver Brainstorms” – recurring discussions focused on a single topic such as ideas for new factions. We’re also keeping an eye on forums – even though we can’t respond to every single suggestion, we read them all. For the bugs, we’ve got an in-game crash reporting tool and there’s a public bug tracker with upvoting functionality. We’re also working with our community on the official Timberborn Wiki.”

About This Game

Mankind turned Earth into a dry wasteland and perished, but some species adapted and evolved. Choose one of the unique beaver factions and see how long your colony can last!

Wet and dry seasons

Prepare your settlement for recurring droughts. Stockpile on food and keep fields and forests alive even after rivers dry up. Rely on both natural water sources and artificial irrigation to keep the land arable.

River control

Redirect rivers, put up dams and dig water canals with explosives – beavers of the future have millennia of experience in water engineering. But be careful, uncontrolled flooding is as deadly as a dynamite blast!

Turn timber into sophisticated machinery, buildings, and monuments. Wood is the core resource in Timberborn, but the most advanced structures require metal. To find it, send your scavengers to the ruins of the old world.

Vertical architecture

Create a thriving beaver settlement using a modular, vertical architecture system. Space is limited, so stack lodges and workshops on top of each other, cover hills with fields, and set up a power grid for your growing population.

Day and night cycle

Build a prosperous city with efficient production chains and beaverish nighttime activities. Follow the lives of individually simulated inhabitants throughout their day and celebrate when the next generation is born!

Satisfy the needs of your colonists to extend their lifespan and make them happier. An evolved beaver's lifestyle is not just "work, sleep and chomp on wood". Balanced diet, decorations, temples, even carousels – you take care of it all.

Beaver societies

Control different beaver factions, each with unique style, buildings, and gameplay traits. While some beavers are expert farmers, another family might rely on rapid industrialization. Choose what fits your playstyle!

Map editor

Play on one of the included maps or create your own and share it with the community! With hills of different height, ruins scattered in the desert, and all life depending on access to water, each map poses a different challenge.

...and more!

We regularly add new features and iterate, based on the community's feedback. We’re making the world’s first beaver city-builder and we want to make it special, so stay in the loop and add Timberborn to your wishlist today!
