Why Early Access?

“Showing Word Turtle Island both privately and publicly, I see how folks are out there and want to get involved. To play it sooner, share reactions and have a voice in how it develops. The game is ready enough to publish and start gathering a community of support and make the game better through the feedback that early access makes possible.

I plan to keep developing this solo, but with growing a community I know I won’t be alone making this such a fun action and chill game of rescuing books and readers.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan to have the early access phase of development to be about a year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“My plans for the full version include a variety of potential refinements. I hope to learn from the community which refinements stand out as most important such as the flow of the battle spaces, audio elements, visual art elements, word weapons, and story.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The foundation of the game is built. You can rescue books and readers in battle, help them out in the book sanctuary. You can play an optional tutorial and practice encounters.

Game play elements like leveling up your character, leveling up the weapons and powers you collect are all in this early access version.

The art direction and style are in place for a colorful fantasy world.

Also the three ways to play input modes are also built, you can play Word Turtle Island with your game controller, keyboard actions and typing words, and mouse/touch input.

The game has a curated dictionary of about 10,000 words related by different lengths, topics, and rhyming themes.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. As I publish new content and features, I plan to raise the price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“For those that join the early access chapter of Word Turtle Island's development I plan to learn from your comments, general feedback, occasional surveys, and questions I have for you about the games ease of learning, difficulty baseline and possible difficulty settings.

Also I plan to publish updates during this early access phase of development for Word Turtle Island and keep learning from your feedback and keep making refinements.”

Word action means use words as weapons! Fight with words, rescue books. Survive nature dungeons, level up tending bookshelves in the library home base. Creatures are destroying the most powerful library in the galaxy. Become the last turtle guardian and help Portia the Book of Portals take on the foes who caused the catastrophe and stole all the books! Gentle rogue-lite with RPG and cozy elements, flexible input, and flexible difficulty.

Battle with words: Use letters as projectiles, words as weapons!
Survive nature dungeons: Face word powered danger with your own powerful words. Use your special powers and word weapons to survive. Find the 27 Books of Power to challenge the final bosses and reclaim the island!
Rescue and rebuild: After battle you return to the cozy book sanctuary. Earn power-ups as you tend the bookshelves. Unlock more battle dungeons. Stay as long as you want or return to battle any time you wish!
Level up and unlock: get stronger, faster. Unlock abilities like DASH, WORD WEAPONS, and POWERS. Each word weapon and power you collect can level up too!

Story

How did the most powerful library in the galaxy become a place of battle? One day, three troublesome creatures attacked the turtle's ultimate library. They caused the turtle-beings to mysteriously disappear, and captured the living books of power. Now the three bosses have sent their armies of creatures to finish their takeover of Word Turtle Island.

Portia, the book of portals, managed to escape. Now, she searches Word Turtle Island for someone to help her rescue the turtles, books and the readers caught in the catastrophe.

Wort, far away at the edge of Word Turtle Island, is about to leave to seek a different turtle path when Portia finds him. Wort learns he is the last of the Word Turtle beings. Now he must level up to become the last turtle guardian to have a chance at this mission.

Now it's up to Wort and Portia (and you) to take back Word Turtle Island!
