It's a shame when people have only AAA games in their mind and ignore hidden gems such as Frozen Synapse. The game is not for anyone - that can be said about any game out there. But in this case what I mean is that unlike other games where you just rush and kill everything in sight, in Frozen Synapse you must take a slower and more tactical approach. You are in command of a squad of soldiers, each equipped with different weapons, from shotguns through sniper rifles all the way to rocket launchers. The game has a good tutorial which can make a person understand the basic and more advanced tactics - from the standard take cover tactics to the more advanced search and destroy where each member of the squad covers the blind spot of the other and thus advance in their search for the enemies. Afterwards people can chose whether they want to advance to the campaign, practice against the computer in skirmish matches or go online against other people around the world. This is a game which would be more suited to the gamers which favor brains and strategy over the standard gamers which know only how to react and rely on reflexes while gaming ... If you are of the first type - I recommend buying this, if you are from the latter one - prove us wrong, joins us and show us ! :)

Frozen Synapse is a turn based squad tactics game set in a confuseing scify distopiea utopiea where digimon have guns. The game has a terrible habit of not telling you things you think you should probably know like that units cannot shoot while ducking behind cover, shotguns not being able to engage hostiles that are more than a rooms width away, and what the hell a "check" command is. other than that the game just seems flat out unpolished with poor AI. Sometimes units will try to engage an enemy with their gun clipping through the corner of a wall. He will then empty his gun into the wall he was hideing behind until he is killed by the enemy he was apparently engageing because your guy was still half exposed. Sometimes your shotgun unit will just stand infront of an enemy and recive a load of lead to his face because no one told you he wont even ATTEMPT to shoot people that are litteraly only farther than a small rooms width away. this is very confuseing because shotgun projectiles seem to travel the entire map with no problem. Units also cannot climb through windows or over low obstacles, leaving very little real tactics you can actually employ while entering a building. The game is also all on one plane, meaning that you cannot climb onto roofs or down into ditches, basements, ECT. Making all the maps just feel the same... The asthetic of the game is simple computery blue wireframe untextured simulation which Is alright for this type of game I suppose, but the world just feels empty with no doors to breach or any furniture at all in the buildings. Yes I know that you are fighting in the digital world net thing, but I would think that doors would be a nice thing to have in any building. The gameplay seems solid at first until you realize how shallow it is with the whole lack of doors thing going on along with the lack of being able to climb through windows. On the story side of things, you get mountains and mountains of text and exposition with what I would guess would be a gripping story. But with SO MUCH UNEXPLAINED JARGON in the lore and no voice acting whatsoever... it all just becomes skippable seeing that you wont be able to understand half the things the characters are talking about anyway. The only thing done right in this game is the sound track which if you are a fan of electronic music I would suggest buying. In the end, Frozen Synapes gets dragged down by poor AI, Shallow gameplay, and a boring story.

Having played several tactical games before, I was very disappointed after playing this one after many users described it as being on the cutting edge of the genre. In truth, it comes down to a rock, paper, scissors blend of wits and guesswork.

Frozen Synapse is actually rather well-balanced. The variety of weapons, random placement of objects, and high amount of control over your actions add a lot to consider when taking your turn. But once you learn the rules, the game actually ends up very shallow. The simultaneous, locked-in turns limit the player to faking out his opponent rather than actually creating a strategy to suit the environment and adapting it to his opponent’s actions. In this way, the game is less about using tactics and more about being cheeky. Strategy, i.e. a plan of attack, is still important, but that is more about getting used to the game’s meta than actually developing tactical prowess.

Frozen Synapse is very stylish - it has a very entertaining sense of humor in its dialogue and narration, and the music is well-composed and nice to listen to, but the gameplay itself falls pretty flat. I do not recommend this game at all.

After reading a ton of forums, I finally got it to work... but not thru steam, and I can only play in offline mode. So This is still so so SUPER BROKEN. Not sure how this would be aloud on Steam with it this jacked up as it is. Complete waste of money as is.... Stay far away... Atleast for now!

I'm really glad I got this game, it's really fun to play, even if I have been loosing all my games so far. REALLY WORTH IT.

It truly is like chess meets counterstrike.

This amazing game took what I enjoyed most about the Rainbow Six series, the mission planning, and made in into a great way to spend your time! I've played this on my Android pad which is basically the same game, but on the PC the experience pulls you into the battles a little better. I love the asynch. gameplay. This allows you to play multiple games when you have the time. Or you can waste several hours creating your own randomly generated maps with incredible input on how they might be layed out. You can even design your own maps with available modding software. If you like turn-based combat and deep strategy, don't pass this game up. Some people complain about the graphics being too boring but they are as complex as they need to be for this kind of simulation.

This game is deceptively captivating, it's more or less a fantastic merger between chess and a tactical FPS. A lot of the strategy to playing this game is anticipating what your opponent will do. You always have to be mindful of where your own blind spots are and how you can out flank your opponent. I love playing a quick skirmish on my android tablet before bed.

I really wanted to like this game as its a great idea and looks good. BUT it doesnt seem to play out as smooth as I had hoped. Such as every move you make which can be just a few seconds long a turn comes a loading screen each time. So you see more loading screens than actually game play. Not good start. Second at the end of the battle when you want to reply the whole thing, it play it by turns, so you cant watch it as one video of the whole thing. Dont know if im just playing it wrong but too many loading screens and not enough flow. I would say only get this if its on sale if you still want to buy it.
