Campaign was challenging and not too long, and the gameplay is a lot of fun. Progression and unlocks kept me interested as the gameplay did not change much throughout. Recommended, and a must-buy at sale price.

When an alien ship crash lands on Earth and immediately sets up a force field around itself, its up to an elite squad to infiltrate the Anomaly and stop the alien incursion. This isn’t tower defense, this is tower offense. This is Anomaly: Warzone Earth.

In a total reversal of the normal genre tropes, you will guide a squadron of tanks through the streets of Baghdad and Tokyo, blasting away at the stationary towers along the path. At any time, you can redirect your team to take advantageous routes, avoiding enemies (or more likely, catching them off-guard so you can collect that sweet, sweet money) and attempting to reach objectives.
There are six different units, each of which can be upgraded three times. You don’t directly control them, however, you simply set their route through the levels. You have control over a commander, who can sprint across the battlefield, drawing fire and laying down special abilities like smokescreens, decoys, and repair rings. These are key to keeping your squad alive so they can blow up all the alien towers. Luckily, for the most part, these power-ups are airdropped frequently.

The game progresses quite linearly, alternatively giving you new units and new towers to test your wits against. The storyline isn’t much to write home about, we’ve all seen alien invasions before, though the voice acting is pretty good. Each level has a series of sub-objectives that need to be completed in order to advance, though in general blowing up all the enemies will be in your advantage. There are end-of-level bonuses given out for being efficient (lowest expenses), ruthless (most kills) and direct (shortest route).

The visuals do a good job of mixing things up, even in Baghdad where everything is just a brown and beige desert. The enemies are unique and bright, and your units are distinct enough to easily be recognized. This game plays alright with a mouse and keyboard, but it was originally made for Xbox 360 and the control show. Pick up a gamepad and the game really flows well. The controls are snappy and intuitive, making the hectic battles much more manageable.

The audio cues are very nicely done, as it’s easy to tell different enemy attacks apart. Your squadron will often call out for your assistance if they are under fire, asking for repairs or smoke screens if things get too hectic. The music is a touch generic, consisting mainly of military fight music in both Middle Eastern and Asian themes, depending on where the level is set, but it gets you in the mood for tanks blowing up aliens, so no complaints from me.

The game progresses nicely in difficulty, slowly ramping up the challenge as new and unusual enemies that require new tactics are constantly thrown your way. Sometimes certain skills will be taken from you, or you’ll have no choice but to walk right into a trap you can see coming. I just wish the campaign was a little bit longer so I would have had a chance to grow into my strategies a little more, rather than constantly being off-balance. I have these awesome tanks to play with, let me feel powerful for a while before overwhelming me again!
This was a fun game! It is full of unique gameplay that is very easy to understand, yet challenging to complete. The PC version is a completely different campaign than the mobile version (which is also available separately on Steam) so if you can’t get enough Anomaly, there’s an entire extra game to play (not to mention the sequels!)

4.5/10
This is a very good looking anti-tower-defence game. You lead your squad into the enemy zone to take out theyr turrets. Only buy this on sale or if you think youre really gonna enjoy it.

pros:
1) good graphics for its age.
2) completing levels feels satisfieing.
3) easy to grasp gameplay mechanics.
4) has 3 levels of difficulty.

cons:
1) really bad story line.
2) you keep getting shout at what to do even when you know what to do.
3) the game kinda holds your hand while youre playing, alerting you of every danger to come.
4) seems like everything is voiced by 1 guy.
4) the vehicles that you get are very few and very basic.
5) you more feel like the squad medic not the leader.
6) average overall gameplay , nothing breathtaking.

This game is good.
Not too easy this game because you have to move with every character to go to the finish. You have to watch everything if you won't want to die or get big damage.
And you can get trading cards.

Okay story, good sounds and graphics for the age, but, it's a very sub-par tower defense game, didn't hook me after 10 minutes of game play, very much a "follow your units around and keep fixing them or setting up their paths" simulator, onto the 2nd one next :)

English

The game does not work either in Linux (problem with libraries) either in OS X (the cursor appears only on a white background); those are known issues for quite some time and remain unresolved, so if you use one of these systems do not bother to try it.

Interesting variety of tower defense genre. You're in control of "invading" units in pre-built maps. At the beginning of each stage, you select your squad based on money you have. You can set/change route of your squad any time you want, change their formation, upgrade their abilities, sell/buy units during mission. You'll have different goals like getting to the end point, destroying some towers along the route, escorting safely some unit to the end, etc. Enemy towers doesn't respawn (in most levels), nor upgrade, so you can plan your strategy ahead.

Besides your squad "on rails", you control the commander - unit which can freely roam the field. His mission is to provide help to your squad with healing, diversions and air strike. He can also be killed, but he respawns after several seconds, unlike other units. Commander is equally important as your other units, so you must learn to use him wisely.

Once you get familiar with game mechanics, you can finish this game with almost same unit formation every time on any difficulty, but nevertheless, game is addictive and very fun to play. I highly recommend playing in combination with steam achievements which adds interesting tasks to do during missions (which also makes the game more difficult).

Overall, if you like tower defense games, you probably won't regret getting this game.

A pretty nice game idea, playing like a reverse tower defence game, where instead of setting up towers and fighting off waves of enemies, you're navigating a small force of tanks and other vehicles into an enemy territory.

There's a lot of strategy involved here, as you must choose your routes carefully and to engage just enough towers at a time so not to get overwhelmed, whilst using abilities such as smoke screen and decoys to mislead enemy towers and protect your allies in the process. There are several different enemy towers, and each one can pose a serious threat if you don't approach it with good strategy. And in addition to encountering various tower setups, the game often throws other challenges your way too, such as needing to get across a bridge in the area before it gets destroyed, or having to evade powerful area artillery strikes from the enemy, and so on.

The game is really fun if you like tactical gameplay, but it's also pretty relentless and hard, even on Casual difficulty. If you're looking for a casual, relaxing game, you won't find it here. But if you're seeking a challenge, you'll be right at home. Unfortunately the game's checkpoint system can sometimes work against you. If you happened to reach a chekpoint when you're low on ability supplies and your vehicles are in poor shape, you might find yourself unable to make progress past the next area, and returning back to the previous section becomes impossible after a checkpoint. These times could cause you having to restart the whole level from the beginning.

In addition to the 14 campaign missions, you also get some bonus challenges (Baghdad Mayhem and Tokyo Raid) which you can try out, where you're given a series of tasks (not related to the story) in an area and you must complete them. Overall, the presentation is pretty good. Great visuals, adrenaline-pumping music, and nice voice acting. So if you don't mind some challenge, this game is worth getting.

Like many others I got this as a freebie and for that it is awesome.
Highly entertainable.
Good graphics. Good voices. Good setting. Good gameplay. Strategic yet simple.

Only a workshop is missing for more maps and maybe missions.

I give it 8.5/10 rainbowponies

If you like defense grid, think of this as reverse defense grid that requires you to move just a bit faster.

Pros
  • Good change of pace from action games, this game gives you time to think before you act
  • Lengthy campaign
Cons
  • Enemies get very hard when you are close to finishing the game. Needs more tank upgrades for the hard levels.

I don't often care for top down games, I seriously can't stand them.
But when this game was avaliable for 1p and I just randomly got it (dont know why)
but this game introduced me to RTS games, this game allows you to select routes for a convoy of vehicles, you have to pick strategic routes and dodge as many turrets as you can, escentually this game is a 'reverse tower defense' game. and I havent played anything like it before.

(If you like chikens buy before best duty of australia)
