Why Early Access?

“Because of you, my friend. You are our most valuable asset when developing this game. Without you guiding and hating on us, we'd be like Odin without Hugin and Munin: dumb, lost and out of our minds!

Currently, the game has a strong foundation, but not much else. We have all the systems in place to build a great game, but without player feedback we are stumbling in the dark; in the end, we want you to play the game, so the best way to ensure we are heading towards Valhalla is to let you guide us there.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We hope to have the game out of early access before fall (Q3) 2018, but it really depends on Loki, the trickster god. He might throw bugs and other mischievous things in our way that will hamper our progress.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will include many, many more hours of gameplay. While most of the content is up for debate, as we wish to build the game together with the community; we do have a few things that can be expected:
  • More viking traits that will change the way they act
  • More buildings and props to decorate your village with
  • More environmental factors such as water, animals and flora
  • Difficulty settings, random generation settings and of course mod support!
  • Your idea here?

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In the game you can currently build a small viking village with a functional city-building toolset, and vikings will be strutting around with some basic personality traits. (both of which will be continuously be improved upon during early access).

I'd estimate we're 30% done, and we are looking for your help to determine the next 70%.
The game is in early access - but it bears saying again - THERE WILL BE BUGS and we will squash them without mercy, but it will take time. So we ask you to have patience with us.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, we plan to gradually increase the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“This is the most important question.
The way we involve you, our player, into the development of the game, is by doing one thing, and one thing only:

We will listen.
Every time you have feedback.
Every time you hate on us, or the game.
Every time you love something.
Every time you found a bug.

Freeze's are only acceptable during Midvinter

Here’s a hotfix that should fix the most immediate crashes and freezes you’ve been experiencing.

Fixed a crash that would happen when you went on an adventure
Fixed a freeze on game load
Fixed a freeze when you throw vikings into water
Fixed a freeze with vikings wandering around

Torches and braziers now require a little less coal

Thank you all for being patient and understanding. We pushed ourselves a little too far with the day/night patch, and Danny is currently experiencing some burnout, so we are forced to slow down and lick our wounds for a short while before picking up speed again.

Day / Night cycle! - Patch 0.5.0

It's time to enter darkness.

Day & Night cycle
Let the darkness surround your island and viking settlement. Set alight all the torches and watch the mist roll in from the ocean.
The big feature of this patch is Darkness. A much needed change from the monotonous perpetual day we’ve had up until now.
To adapt the game for this change has been huge, spanning all features of the game, so I hope you can have understanding for how long time it took us to get here!

New UI for the buildings to support more types!
We had to revamp the building UI because the old format just couldnt support this amount of buildings, so this new one should have more space, let us know what you think of it!

Torches and Braziers
Light up the night with these fancy torches and braziers!

Adventures & Treasures
Send your vikings out on missions to collect valuable treasures!

This feature is the framework that we will try to build raiding around, so please give us feedback on it!

Log Palisade
Ward off evil attackers with this sturdy log wall (evil attackers to-be-added, for now it just looks pretty)

Witch’s Hut
Recruit a witch to brew concoctions for your vikings, can cure both curses and illnesses.
Currently has no use, but we wanted to show it to you! Functionality will be added in 0.5.1

Fishing huts work okay now!

The game is now “Very early alpha” instead of “Very very early alpha”
We’re getting there!

Small stuff:
Vikings now require more food per day
Days are much longer
Changed horn to a more low-key horn so that your ears will be less likely to explode.
Viking list is now located in bottom right corner
Fishing hut renamed to fishing shack
Road renamed to Wooden Road
Added rarities to the storage inventory
Added a “wake up” button on houses for you to disturb a viking’s beautysleep because why the heck not?

Holy cow we fixed a lot of bugs, but they were produced by the features we just added, so we cannot count them, Doh!
At least we fixed an infinite loop with the farm, so your game should crash less often!

Thank you for having the patience and sticking with us, this patch was a real pain to make, but we sincerely hope you enjoy it!

About This Game

The technical definition of the game is: A sandbox survival village-builder with randomly generated terrain and Sims-like AI villagers (that's a mouthful).
But really, Mind the Vikings is supposed to be a more personal take on a genre that oftentimes focuses on building giant anonymous cities. We want you as the player to interact with each and every viking in a unique way, get to know them, and build an amazing viking village with them!

We are always changing our path to victory, and with your feedback we'll change many times again, but to give you an idea of what the future might look like, we created this:

    • Additional Notes: It's a work in progress, that means required minimum specs will change during development, when we add stuff, it will rise, as we work on performance, it will hopefully decrease.
