Why Early Access?

“Because of you, my friend. You are our most valuable asset when developing this game. Without you guiding and hating on us, we'd be like Odin without Hugin and Munin: dumb, lost and out of our minds!

Currently, the game has a strong foundation, but not much else. We have all the systems in place to build a great game, but without player feedback we are stumbling in the dark; in the end, we want you to play the game, so the best way to ensure we are heading towards Valhalla is to let you guide us there.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We hope to have the game out of early access before fall (Q3) 2018, but it really depends on Loki, the trickster god. He might throw bugs and other mischievous things in our way that will hamper our progress.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will include many, many more hours of gameplay. While most of the content is up for debate, as we wish to build the game together with the community; we do have a few things that can be expected:
  • More viking traits that will change the way they act
  • More buildings and props to decorate your village with
  • More environmental factors such as water, animals and flora
  • Difficulty settings, random generation settings and of course mod support!
  • Your idea here?

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In the game you can currently build a small viking village with a functional city-building toolset, and vikings will be strutting around with some basic personality traits. (both of which will be continuously be improved upon during early access).

I'd estimate we're 30% done, and we are looking for your help to determine the next 70%.
The game is in early access - but it bears saying again - THERE WILL BE BUGS and we will squash them without mercy, but it will take time. So we ask you to have patience with us.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, we plan to gradually increase the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“This is the most important question.
The way we involve you, our player, into the development of the game, is by doing one thing, and one thing only:

We will listen.
Every time you have feedback.
Every time you hate on us, or the game.
Every time you love something.
Every time you found a bug.
Every time you have an idea.
Unconditionally we will lov.. LISTEN *ahem* to you, and together we can build this game into the giant northern Jörmungandr it deserves to be!”

Quality of Life update - v.0.4.4

Hello Viking Overlords!
We’re adding a few quality of life features before we drop the 0.5.0 patch next week (which we suspect you will like… quite a bit.)

Here comes a few changes that should make life in vikingville a little easier!



Features:
  • New UI for vikings, buildings and resources that should hopefully make managing information a little easier
  • Re-growing forests - saplings now spawn in forest-areas that turn into trees after a while
  • Launch menu has been totally revamped for simplicity
  • Range indicator on lumberyard to see it’s area of effect
  • You can now quickly see how much firewood each house contains by selecting the lumberyard
  • You can now hold SHIFT to automatically see information on hovered object
  • Added details to damage, so you can see where damage was taken from
  • Added confirm quesion on main menu so you don’t accidentally exit game without saving
  • You can now evict vikings from houses that you think they don’t belong in by draggin another viking onto that house
You can now opt-in to the stable version of the game under the beta branch on our game's properties page!

Bugs:
  • Lag when saving the game has been reduced (more fixes are coming)
  • Fixed gatherers mixing up trees and bushes

30 Vikings? How about 300? 0.4.3 is here!

Today I want to tell you that we just implemented the biggest performance increases yet. The amount of vikings you can recruit before your computer dies just increased by something like 300-500% :)



Together with that we also threw in a couple bug fixes and improvements to the UI

Performance:
Fixed a bleed that would increase exponentially as you gained more vikings
Recruiting more vikings would cause a big lag spike later on during the game
Alleviated stuttering that would occur when you recruited a large number of vikings

Bugs:
Scuba-diving vikings are no-more (hopefully atleast, they really like scuba-diving)
Every homeless person would say “gained home” when placing a house, even if that is sadly not true.
Woodchoppers are no longer inactive on a loaded game start
Houses are now set on fire correctly
Fixed buildings not being properly built when placed
Dead viking profile pages are no longer glued to the screen to remind you what horrible thing you let happen to this poor viking..

Features:
Seeds are now separated into two boxes, second one being for mountaineusness(euess?)
Added foundation to guard tower
Death notification now tells you in what horrible way the viking died

About This Game

The technical definition of the game is: A sandbox survival village-builder with randomly generated terrain and Sims-like AI villagers (that's a mouthful).
But really, Mind the Vikings is supposed to be a more personal take on a genre that oftentimes focuses on building giant anonymous cities. We want you as the player to interact with each and every viking in a unique way, get to know them, and build an amazing viking village with them!

We are always changing our path to victory, and with your feedback we'll change many times again, but to give you an idea of what the future might look like, we created this:

    • Processor: Intel® Core™ i3 or AMD FX-6300 with at least 2 GHz
    • Memory: 2 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GeForce GTX 560/Radeon HD 6850
    • DirectX: Version 10
    • Storage: 1 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: It's a work in progress, that means required minimum specs will change during development, when we add stuff, it will rise, as we work on performance, it will hopefully decrease.
