It's alright, a fun waste of time, WASD racing game. Great sandbox ability to make tracks, and some are very hard to complete. Unfortunately, most people are stuck in the arena environment. Makes for a great party game though.

Probably the most openly customizible racing game ever created, Trackmania United Forever allows your most unrealistic, yet incredible childhood racing dreams to become reality. If you want to drive a certain car, you can put new ones into the game. If you want to completely Retexture the Track environment, you can do that too. The only limit that exists in Trackmania is the imagination (and your editing abilities).

An unfortunately often overlooked game that has an extreme amount of respect from it's players but not a shred of acknowledgement from the rest of the world.

I don't think this game got any hype at all, really. Which is a damn shame, seeing as how much hours people have put into this and the fact that the community of veterans has somehow managed to stay alive and well after all of these years.

I got the original Trackmania (The original) game out of a cereal box. And if I didn't, I bet I would have never touched the series. Out of sheer awe from the quality of the game, I bought Trackmania: Sunrise Xtreme off of Ebay years later. And now, I found that there was a steam version of the game, Trackmania: United Forever, which luckily enough, is a full-functioning combination of everything in the Original TM and Sunrise Xtreme into one super-game with content updated for both games and new content for both to official mash the two together on an updated playfield.

For people new to the series, Trackmania is mostly a racing game. HOWEVER.

  • You build your own tracks with the exact same advanced freedom the developers had when they made the standard tracks
  • The races are non-contact and are purely for who can get the best time
  • A lot of the game is directed towards break-neck stunts and mile-long jumps that require extreme precision to complete flawlessly
  • The game has multiplayer that is cleverly designed to have the players race together but remove the effects of lag, competition and griefing by simply using non-contact 'ghost' style races and stunt events
  • As a map builder you can concentrate just as much on making the map beautiful and realistic as well as concentrate on somehow making a single ramp send the player from one end of the map to the other

While being a game with a lot of features for multiplayer, the game definitely accomodates for the offline community as well. And being that the races are a 'ghost' style event, you don't have to worry about poor AI opponents or finding other people to play with as the people's circuit races are recorded to be your 'ghost' opponent. In fact, you can turn off the 'ghost' opponent entirely and just race against your own time if that's how you want to go.

The only time I ever have a problem with the game's community is when I find myself forced to play somebody's extreme track that takes half and hour to complete because some people are certain their creations are the ♥♥♥♥

Please, give this game a chance. Please.

Oh Trackmania, I got the original for Christmas when I was ten. It was the best racing game I'd ever played and still is the best. The racing mechanics, while acceptable, are totally overshadowed by the versatility of the tracks. Everything goes, wanna race over the suspension bridge supports, no problem, how about make a jump out of rocks, go for it, what about a maze of cacti, sure thing. Not only can you give yourself a challenge with interesting tracks against great AI, you can build whatever you want with the resources you're given. The sandbox aspect makes the game REALLY enjoyable. maybe a little of nostalgia for the original is talking, but this is one really good game.

its probably the most fun and creative racing game i ever played the tracks are insane. but at the same time its probably the easiest game to get bored of. is not a game you can play all the time. just in short bursts every couple of days or something.
if you use customized cars and skins etc nobody can see them but youreself unless they have fully purchased the game, which makes it a waste of time since i never saw 1 other person who baught the game.
ive played this alot longer than 10 hours btw i dont usually start games through steam.

Trackmania United is quite fun to play. Before I bought United I've spent alot of time on the free to play Nations. Nations is practically United but your restricted to just the Stadium environment.

United offers an additional 6 themes, with United you'll be able to race and design tracks in Snow, Desert, Rally, Bay, Island, Coast and Stadium environments and I'll tell you now. The Island car is insanely fast compaired to the Stadium car.

But if you're looking for multiplayer servers with any other theme but Stadium, good luck with that because United shares it's multiplayer with Nations and it's very rare to find a Non-Stadium server but, of course, if you've got friends who plays United then you could always arrange a meet-up.

The simple but advanced grid based track editor shouldn't be too hard if you've got experience from Nations, but with the additon of 6 more environments to play with, each with their own sets of track pieces, offers more variety for your creativity to work with.

So really United is a Nations upgrade. You can play Nations to try out Trackmania and if you enjoy it. Then consider United if you want more. Trying out Nations is probably the best thing you can do because as I've noticed, United has never had its price cut in a sale.

You can brake on the air.
You can reach 1000 km/h.
You can ride upside down and sideways.
Can't ask for more.

Edit*: ok, I didn't knew this review would get such popularity and approval, so... I actually forgot two very important things from this game that sums up with the other items I said up above. So here it goes:

Seven (sete, siete, sieben, sette, sept, zeven) different environments and no f*cking collisions.
Seriously, what could you possibly want MORE from this game?

Best racing game I've ever played. Easily. I played this a lot during the 9 months or so when I didn't have internet so that's why the hour count is low; I'd probably have 75+ hours otherwise. Solid, enjoyable, customizable, replayable, multiplayer (Friends/family have enjoyed this a lot too), has a variety of content... I don't know what else to say. All around this game is definitely worth the money despite being on the more expensive side when it comes to steam games I've played.
Don't even get me started on how much I love games with level editors ;)

Excellent racing game. So easy to pick up and play in short bursts and still today there is an active community creating custom tracks and skins so it never gets old. Highly recommended to casual gamers but also more hardcore palyers who will want to perfect their race times and win every medal.
