“The plan in place aims for 8 months of Early Access and a final release in August 2018.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are planning to regularly update the game content throughout Early Access, as well as features we believe will make the game even more enjoyable and richer.

In order to achieve this, and to get as much as we can from the Early Access participation, we will be hard at work listening to YOU, sifting through the feedback (and being awesomely surprised at your creativity to inspire us) and implementing these throughout this phase.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At this stage of development we are going out with all the base game features in place:
  • Construct, upgrade and defend your refuge
  • Rescue and recruit followers
  • Coordinate your followers for resource management
  • Combat a variety of eldritch monstrosities
  • Go out on expeditions with your followers on your wolf sled
  • Explore the initial release of the game world, roughly 10 km2 area, under dynamic snowfall and time of day
  • All the while trying to survive the deadly blizzards in this post-apocalyptic world.

We are also introducing the first beats of the story: What is the haunting voice that keeps pestering, misleading, mocking us? Where does the corruption come from, and why?

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are planning to make use of the Steam forums. Further communication channels will be on BFG's and the game's social channels. Furthermore, we'll do regular live-shows from our studio where everyone can chat with developers or ask questions. FEAR is upon you and bears the gift of more content.

New Region:
The Pit is dominated by deep canyons and POIs to explore. Central point is a refinery which is located in the middle of the map, as well as some minor POIs hidden in the canyon. It also features new gathering areas you can make use of. But being the farthest region from your refuge, you need to equip the best gear you can muster.

New Followers:
Gani and Ezra join the fold. Ezra, called "The Alchemist" managed to survive for a very long time, despite the harsh conditions. That is partly thanks to his widespread knowledge of every plant and herb that can still be found in the icy cold.
Gani, the Huntress, is determined to reverse the Eclipse’s devastating effects on the planet. Ready to take on any task, Gani expects the same of everyone else. Likewise, Gani won’t hesitate to call out faults in camp leadership when she sees them.

You can find her in the world and defy her challenge to recruit her into your camp. Ezra, however, will approach your refuge on his behalf if certain conditions are met.

New threats:
Our Tech-Artists and VFX Artists did a tremendous job to introduce a new threat into the game. The snow tornado roams the canyons of The Pit and forces you to be extremely careful when you explore the new area.

New Refuge Upkeep:
We implemented a new upkeep system for the refuge. From now on, your followers in the camp are affected by the amount of firewood and food you have stored in the refuge. They also start to use resources that are stored in the refuge stash. The amount of resources being used depends on the number of followers, the constructed buildings, and if a follower is in the camp. Followers on expeditions do not use resources in the camp. Followers on gathering runs (e.g., hunting) are considered "in the camp". Now you have to ensure you have a steady supply of food and wood, so make sure to put your followers to work.

Known Issues
  • Corruption roots/tentacles are not recognized by monsters and followers.
  • Localization: Non-English languages are still missing translations for dialogues.
  • Localization: Gender-sensitive languages are still missing the proper forms. For now, it is recommended to play in English.
  • Region names, player feedback about follower activities, some mission names, some reworked interactables, and new or reworked menu items have not been localized, will show up in English.
  • Fog of war on the map currently has visual artifacts depending on camera position.
  • Event log temporarily deactivated.
  • In rare cases the Impaler Guardian from the NW Outpost may be invisible.
  • The game may become unresponsive if “ALT+TAB” combination is pressed during the loading screen.
  • In some cases the Gani recruitment event will break if you enter the shelter before she does.
    Workaround: Leave the event area and restart the event. Make sure you enter the shelter AFTER Gani.
  • Dependent on snow height the tools in the Gani recruitment event are not visible because they are buried in the snow. They still get highlighted if you place the cursor above them.

  • fixed - Cancelling an attack no longer costs stamina. Jumping now cancels an attack as well.
  • fixed - Followers in an expedition now attack the corrupted Rhys.
  • fixed - Two paths leading to the player falling into an inaccessible location have been fixed.
  • fixed - The debug sphere from the Canyon tornado is no longer visible.
  • fixed - Rhys is no longer randomly removed from the expedition during the Flats Outpost cleansing quest.
  • fixed - The Main Menu becomeing transparent after you go into the Options menu and come back is no longer the case.

Known Issues
  • KNOWN ISSUE: The Main Menu becomes transparent after you go into the Options menu and come back.

    Workaround: The Main Menu is still "there", you can still click the buttons or use the gamepad. The changes you make in the Options menu are properly saved as well. You can restart the game after you've saved & closed the Options menu, and as mentioned, you can use the Main Menu with the Gamepad or keyboard & mouse as long as you know where to click.

    Up with the gamepad is Continue, Left with the gamepad is New Game :)

    Real Workaround: We'll fix this first thing tomorrow :smiley:

About This Game

As the player you take the role of Ash, a natural but tormented leader. In that role you explore a post-apocalyptic, frozen wasteland to gather the resources necessary to establish a refuge for survival. With dwindling resources, simple tasks like upgrading equipment and collecting materials quickly require an expedition to scavenge the necessary items. In the search for survival materials, players must navigate a vast territory, in which they will encounter Eldritch monsters and an even greater foe: the unrelenting winter. While freezing temperatures constantly take their toll on the player Ash, the deadliest event is that of a blizzard. If caught by surprise, it takes every ounce of skill, determination and luck to survive.

In order to survive and overcome all challenges, the player needs to attract followers, bringing them into thei refuge. Each individual skillset and character traits grants access to higher tier resources and gear. Without such advances, the player character can scavenge only the barest necessities, crafting makeshift tools and weapons.

“You’re glad to have found wood; for once, you’ll have a roaring fire in the camp. As your sled wolves race home, you pay no attention to the strange lights in the forest. You’ve done enough for today.
The wind suddenly picks up - a blizzard is moving in fast. The voice in your head dares you to keep going,”Come on! You have plenty of time to make it back.” You doubt it, but stopping now means you need to build a shelter—out of that precious wood. The snow begins to fall; you have only a moment to decide. Should you risk it and keep going, or do you play it safe but lose your firewood?”


Fade to Silence introduces the many dynamics of a harsh winter climate to a complex, character-driven, group survival experience. The dynamic weather system adds to the immersion of survival in a cold, corrupted world. Survival depends on how well the players read weather patterns, and if they come to the right conclusion - look for shelter or press home. The dynamic snow displacement leaves a realistic path by both player character and NPC. This telltale sign will tell you regions where it is good to hunt and regions where monsters are roaming.

“You’re out hunting. The barren, snow-filled landscape is endless and unrelenting. A Ripper comes out of nowhere, and you fight it off, narrowly dodging its gigantic claws.
Then you see it: a distant fire. Another person? Impossible. But there’s a strange noise—a voice? Wild hope sears your heart; you won’t be alone anymore. The voice in your head steps in, discouraging you from investigating. “Anyone living must have done terrible things to survive”, it says. You quiet the voice, defying it this time, and move in closer. Another person could help you rebuild, gather food, harvest deer. You see someone—yes! Someone else is out here. Then, you hear a scream. But you hesitate. How can you trust them? Another scream, desperate. There’s only one way to find out.”
