What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I'm in a position where the base mechanics are in and the aesthetic is well established, but finding the right balance of various elements of the game requires feedback from the community of players. These insights are invaluable and will help me tune the play experience to maximize the fear factor, enjoyment, and value of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I anticipate 2-4 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I have completed 3 of the 4 levels of the game, approximately 80% of the content. The 4th level (not included at this stage) is about halfway done. The final game will include the last level (the attic) and the climax of the story.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“For the first 3 (of 4) levels, the gameplay mechanics are all fully functional. The art is complete (minus some polish on certain areas). Audio is about halfway there with many cues currently missing or in a state that needs polish. UI is in and functional.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Probably not. Our plan is to maintain the same price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will be asking the community of fans and players for feedback and bug reporting. I might offer voting on certain topics to get a better feel for their wants. There are anumber of players in the community who have expressed an enthusiastic interest in providing feedback as they are excited about the potential of the game.”

Witchkin Early Access has arrived!

This initial Early Access build features the first 3 levels of the game: the Basement, 1st Floor, and 2nd Floor. I have added two new toys that offer unique ways to terrify players--Trappy Bear (Basement) and Hooks the Clown (1st Floor). Marcy’s 2nd Floor level has many improvements from the demo including bug fixes, altered mechanics, and new scares. I plan to complete the final level (Attic) in the next few months and have it in game by the end of the year.

The feedback I have gotten from players and by watching let’s play videos has been hugely helpful to me; I look forward to learning more so I can make Witchkin the most fun and scary game that it can be. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Demo Update- Clarity, Bugs and Attic!

We'd like to thank everyone for trying out the demo!

Watching all the great playthrough videos has given us a tremendous amount of insight into what improvements we can make.

To that end, I have fixed a number of bugs, added more clear gameplay hints and messaging and added the ATTIC LADDER to the final room.

We look forward to more feedback from the community which helps us make Witchkin a more engaging, fun, and scary experience:)

We are so grateful to our players- thanks so much to all of you!

“It’s probably the first horror game I’ve encountered where it’s obvious that no detail was left untouched. This game isn’t just about scaring you; it’s about making you feel helpless and vulnerable while playing on your childhood fears.”
The Outerhaven

“The grainy black-and-white horror film aesthetic is a real treat, building dread and tension rather than relying on gore to terrify.”

“Developed and published by Coven Games, Witchkin seems to have been birthed from hell itself. Set to haunt your dreams mid-2017, Witchkin is definitely a game you’ll want to play with friends...”

About This Game

"You are being stalked by evil dolls in an old black-and-white film"

Witchkin is a first person 'hide-and-sneak' survival horror game in the vein of Slender or Five Nights at Freddie's.

The player takes the role of a child attempting to find his abducted little sister in an abandoned Texas farmhouse in the 1920's. This house is home to the Witchkin--a family of terrifying toys, the children of a deranged woman known as the Candy Lady. Using her “children” she will do everything in her power to keep all who enter the house from ever leaving.

The base play mechanics of Witchkin are primarily stealth. Sneaking, hiding, staying quiet and aware of the toys and your surroundings are skills required throughout the game. Witchkin boasts a very strong and unique art style reminiscent of early silent movies, painted in the eerie sepia tones of postmortem photos and the murky shadows of nightmares.

Witchkin is a one-man show, only one person created the game: art, music, voice (with a little help from family members), and programming.
