關於此遊戲

Men of War: Vietnam is a new game for the critically acclaimed series. The new, story-driven campaign lets you taste the explosive mix of the jungle, Hueys and rock-n-roll in 1968. The US campaign focuses on a team of elite special ops soldiers, and each one of them has a personality.
The unit includes Sergeant John Merrill, machine-gunner Jim Walsh, sniper Sonny Armstrong, grenade launcher operator Carl Dillan and combat engineer Bill Kirby. In some missions they can count only on themselves, while in the others they act together with regular US and South-Vietnamese troops. The North Vietnam campaign tells the story of two Soviet military consultants and two soldiers of the North Vietnam Army who are the only survivors of an ambush prepared by the US troops. The task of getting back to the North Vietnam territory is a difficult one – they have no means of radio communication, no wheeled vehicles, and it’s too far to make it there on foot. On their way these survivors get involved in a chain of bloodbath engagements and find themselves in the dead center of the well-known Tet offensive.
Missions range from special operations (rescuing a shot-down pilot, escorting a reporter, etc.) to full scale battles.

Key Features

  • There are two sides in every story, so two new story-driven campaigns attempt to show the war from both sides.
  • Breathtaking missions including an ambush on the Ho Chi Minh trail, a game of cat and mouse in the Mekong Delta, raids into Cambodia and Laos, bridge defense during the Tet offensive and more.
  • New weapons and units: M-16, T-54, M-113, Patton III, M-60, AK-47, M-14, RPG-2, M-72 LAW, RPK and many more.
  • Multiplayer mode – co-op for up to 4 players.

Men of War is affected by the GameSpy shutdown on the 31st of May. You can continue to play the game through LAN, DirectIP and GameRanger.

I tried to like this game, but frankly, it's not very good. It feels like a downgrade to MOWAS2 in every single way. The campaign missions are not very good and they're really challenging on the easiest difficulty for some reason (I am able to do fine in MOWAS2 missions). The AI for the people you control is also pretty poor, my guys chased around a chopper and didn't switch to their RPGs to take it out or run to cover, they just stood out and died. Also, the ranges on weapons are way too short and not being able to get mods easily makes this more of an issue. As for the graphics, it looks pretty mediocre on maximum settings at 1080p. Shadows look jaggy with 4x antialiasing on, and the trees move very slowly in the wind, so they look terrible. I wanted to love this game because there is a serious lack of Vietnam War games, but this game isn't very good. I got it in a bundle I think, and am not a fan even at the $1 or less that I likely paid for it.

General Impression
Men of War: Vietnam is a pretty nice strategy game. The graphics and the textures are relatively nice. The atmosphere mostly happens in jungles, obviously, since this game happens in Vietnam, as the title says. Some missions also have other types of atmosphere besides jungles, alike military bases, rivers and bamboo houses. The audio is pretty nice, I like the sounds of the vehicles. The helicopters’ sound should be a little more amplified, though. The music is nice. In this game, the music is are stunning and dynamic. The gameplay is complex, in each mission you have to accomplish several tasks, alike putting bombs in tanks, killing specific enemies, making enemies to retreat, and even others. Throughout the area of each mission, in this game, apparently you can’t steal the enemy’s batteries or tanks, being a pretty big disadvantage, because this game is pretty hard. Plus it cuts your freedom to do what you consider. The story is basically: the first campaign shows the American side, the second campaign shows the Vietnam side and the third one (which is available only if you buy the D.L.C.), some bonus missions on both sides. They are all pretty long. The user interface is well-optimized, with no bugs and well-synthetized information. I also like the overall design of it. The controls are pretty good, except with one thing: you must use the arrows in order to move your units. I highly recommend changing those settings to the traditional W, A, S and D. The engines, just like in every Men of War game, are not perfect. The game has rarely crashes, and when it crashes, you obviously lose the progress of your mission. Try and save the game as often as you can, in order to avoid too much progress lose. You don't want to waste your time by restarting the mission from zero, right? The mechanics are sophisticated, being pretty nice and everything moves well-optimized. Now, I’m going to talk a little about the G.E.M. editor. Just like in every Men of War game, you have a G.E.M. editor. You can create your own battles in it. It is complex and with a various number of functions. What I don’t like in this particular G.E.M. editor: first of all, the bug which displays 4 functions. If you press the right-click, it will display them. This does not happen in any other Men of War games. Secondly, the amount of content. There are not many infantry out there, neither vehicles. Oh, did I mention that you can’t even drive helicopters? Well, that’s pretty sad, in my opinion. But overall, the G.EM. editor is pretty nice, still. Overall, this game is a pretty nice simulation of the Cold War.

Positive Points
  • Relatively nice and well-designed graphics and textures
  • Pretty nice audio and nice music
  • Fun and challenging gameplay
  • Many missions throughout the 3 campaigns available
  • Infantry, batteries, vehicles, APCs, tanks, helicopters, and many other units available
  • 3 difficulties available
  • A pretty nice designed user interface
  • Some pretty stable engines
  • Some pretty nice mechanics

Neutral Points
  • Trading cards would be a nice feature
  • More units would be awesome
  • The editor should have more content, including being able to drive helicopters

Negative Points
  • The multiplayer is not alive anymore
  • There are some rare crashes, like in all the Men of War games
  • You can’t steal the enemy’s stuff besides their ammunition, the biggest disadvantage

"Sympathy For The Devil"

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Tsar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain

I rode a tank
Held a general's rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah

I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made

I shouted out,
"Who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all
It was you and me

Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer

Cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste

Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeahPleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah

But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down

Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name

Tell me baby, what's my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame
Ooo, who
Ooo, who

Ooo, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
What's my name
Tell me, baby, what's my name

Tell me, sweetie, what's my name
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who

Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who

Oh, yeah

Men of War: Vietnam is a great strategy game, difficult, but that's how Vietnam has been.
Every mission is like a full campaign, several hours even on easy settings, the gameplay is a combination of Commandos 2 & Jagged Alliance 2.

After playing this game for a good amount of time and pursuing to beat it on Hard, I've noticed this game isn't the failure that most people deem it to be. In order to play this game, there must be a basic understanding of proper guerilla warfare, and knowing this is VERY useful. This game is not for everyone however. This game is a test of skill for those who are familiar with the Men of War series and its mechanics.

A few thoughts after in-depth play (Post Scriptum Edition):
First of all, if you can earn every achievement without cheating, kudos to you. It is not an easy task to earn all of these achievements, because the final US Mission can be quite intimidating on Hard difficulty. Expect to be screaming, "OH MY GOD IT'S LIKE THE FALL OF SAIGON BUT WORSE!" at the end.
Second, a quick reading of Sun Tzu's Art of War woyld be useful. You'll know what part I'm referring to if you do read it.
Third, the game is not broken. I've played it with no issue, so it seems the problem is originating from the user. Sorry, but that's the case. It certainly is not your average Men of War game, so I can understand why people would say this. Compared to Men of War: Condemned Heroes, which is coined as being another 'impossibly difficult' entry in the series, this game is flawless. I think the struggle players encountered with this game is symbolic. The United States certainly did struggle in Vietnam. Everything was about winning through attrition... the player has to win a mission of attrition as well because of how long a single mission can take without losing a single squad member. This was probably not intentional on the developer's part, but still an interesting characteristic.

Men of War: Vietnam offers a unique experience that is not for everyone. If you are new to the series, please take care to avoid this game. This was my first game I bought in the Men of War series, and it was a bitter mistake at first, because most of my time was spent figuring out how to play the game. Definitely don't want to do that here.

Awesome game, have'nt ploughed the hours into this like other MOW titles. However that is not to say this game isn't just as good as it predecessors. I stalled from buying this game for such a long time due to negative reviews and people rating it as 'too' difficult.

That is part of the games attraction surely, something that presents itself as a challenge? Single player the game is great but multiplayer is where it shines. On comms with a mate (or mates) this game is just as good as the other MOW titles. infact I love the weapons on offer. So it is more unique and in a very politically sensitive backdrop.

I would recommend this game as it is very much in th eflavour of all other MOW games, expect the high detail, anticipate the challenge and also the beautiful levels of micro admin. These series of games offer something very unique and it should be experienced with good mates who you can trust to run through in coop. Not some randoms who want to charge through it guns blazing. Digest the intel, scan the map and devise your path of action and you will be rewarded. Run in without covering your arcs and setting up fall back points for certain missions and you will fail miserably. COOP MP is a must, 4 of you working in unison is brilliant as you can set up multiple ambush points and often smash the enemy in one action, with a well coordinated strike.

A great game, as the rest.

As an Infantryman I love this game. I have read alot of negative reviews on this game but for many of the levels I have found that a simple flanking manuever or a well executed ambush does the trick. Still it is very hard and even when you plan and execute perfectly you can still take caualties which is frustrating considering you definatley do not ever have a 3:1 ratio against your enemy, so save often! The thick jungle while making it difficult to see at times is an invaluable asset and greatly contributes to the success of the players in the mission where guerilla style tactics are a must. Overall one of the better RTS games I have played.

Like the United States Army, I came back from the jungles of Vietnam with a bloody nose. This game is for Men of War fans who want more emphasis on small squad tactics and less huge battles. I personally love the jungle canopy as it makes things more challenging by simulating how hard it is to see and maneuver in a jungle environment. Overall its a very good game.

MOW Vietnam is a good, stable solid game. The mechanics of play are solid enough and the UI is basically same as the other in the series. What makes this game interesting, is playing in the Vietnam War era. Not many games touch on this time and more should. So, at least for now, its a unique game that does a better than fair job in giving you the feeling of fightiing in that era. Have fun!

Guerilla Warfare from the US side (VERY CHALLENGING), and full fledge combat from the NVA side (mostly). Overall it's a decent game, MP doesn't work since the GS shutdown and Co-Op is a mediocre experience compared to MoW AS, and the original. Buy it on sale.
