"The Duellists" update is now available!

Hello everyone,

The second update for Steel Division: Normandy 44 is now out, bringing new content, awaited improvements as well as some balance changes!

Two maps’ variants

As announced last week, The Duellists update grants players two new variants of the Carpiquet & Sainte-Mère-Eglise maps. They are both available in 1v1 & 2v2/3v3, in multiplayer and skirmish. They will be available in Ranked in the next few days.

Sainte-Mère-Eglise - Duellists
In the 1v1 version of the Sainte-Mère-Eglise - Duellists map, the main road acts as a symbolical frontline instead of leading to the city.

in the 2v2/3v3 version, on the contrary, you will have to share the main road with your allies to reach the town.

In both cases, players will have to reconsider their strategies in order to be victorious.

Carpiquet - Duellists
Both Carpiquet’s variants are more focused on the airfield which now covers a wider part of the map. Players will have to concentrate all their efforts on central open ground.

New 10v10 possibilities

Today’s update gives also access to Carpiquet and Pegasus Bridge in 10v10, promising even more epic battles! All 10v10 engagements can now be fought in two additional modes: Axis vs Axis and Allies vs Allies. Get ready for some fratricidal Panzer fights!

Spanish translation

The Duellists adds one more language to the game. You will have the possibility to enjoy Steel Division: Normandy 44 in Spanish.

Dedicated servers

From now on, each player can host his own dedicated server! To know more about the process, please visit the dedicated page on our website.

General fixes & improvements

The Duellists update also brings some general fixes and improvements. We would like to thank you all for your feedback which have been very useful to improve our game. Recent hotfixes have already improved the game's stability, fixing some disconnects or crashes when changing graphic settings. We are still working to fix remaining bugs that some of you may still encounter.

Here’s the complete patchlog of what have been fixed in this update:

  • Fixed a bug preventing the s.FH396(r) from firing at its maximum range.
  • Fixed a bug regarding the Besa HMG's AP value.
  • Fixed a bug hiding an allied unit's ghost' name & weapons.
  • Fixed a bug instantly removing a dead infantry unit in a city block, instead of having it greyed first like others.
  • Fixed a freeze sometimes occurring when deactivating some sound peripherals.
  • Fixed a crash occurring with towed units.
  • Fixed a bug allowing planes to fly through mountains after a diving attack.
  • Fixed a crash for invited players occurring when the search started while looking for someone to invite.
  • Fixed a bug displaying empty players' name with "NEUTRAL" in replays.
  • Fixed a plane behavior bug: when one loses its target before entering on-map, it now exists the map through the proper air corridor.
  • Fixed a display bug displaying "LIVE" on a replay.
  • Removed the ability to save a game after having surrendered, which resulted in a corrupted save.
  • Fixed the "Level up" display in French.
  • Fixed a display bug in the "lost password" window.
  • Fixed the Destruction mode's hint.
  • Fixed the AT rockets' hint.
  • Fixed some rare crashes or freezes.
  • Fixed a score display bug in the final German solo mission.
  • Once a solo mission is complete, the next one is automatically selected in the missions' list after the debriefing screen.

Finally, some balance changes have been brought with “The Duellists” update, completing what was done in the last update “And Justice For All”.

  • Decreased number of shots fired by 203mm & 210mm off-map artillery from 15 to 12.
  • Increased off-map 356mm & 380mm artillery observers' price from 160 to 180.
  • Reworked vetted autocannons which do not get RoF bonus anymore.
  • Decreased (and standardized) "Ammo" loadout for flamethrowers.
  • Decreased TNT explosives' suppression.
  • Decreased artillery observers' range of vision from 1300 to 1000m.
  • Decreased recon planes' refueling time.
  • Increased all planes' repairing time.
  • Decreased AA supply consumption.
  • Reworked bombers' drop pattern, which is now more dispersed when the plane is suppressed.
  • Increased single AA 20mm (FlaK38 & Polsten)'s efficiency

  • Increased M5A1/Stuart VI & Staghound' accuracy by 1.
  • Increased 25-pdr & Sexton's Rate of Fire.
  • Fixed the M15's .50 range (which was inferior to the other AA .50).

101st Airborne[/u]
  • Increased M22's accuracy increase by 1.
  • Increased M22 aiming time from 3 to 4 seconds.

6th Airborne
  • Fixed the Paratroopers' speed.

  • Decreased ammo loadout for SPW 222, SPW 231 & SPW 232 from 300 to 180 rounds.
  • Decreased FlaK 88mm's suppression.

This patch focuses on generic balance issues, not individual divisions. A next one will be dedicated to individual divisions' balance.

Please don’t hesitate to contact our support if you’re still having problems with the game, our team will investigate and help you the best they can.

Enjoy the fight in Normandy!

About This Game

Steel Division: Normandy 44 is a Tactical Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game, developed by Eugen Systems, the creators of titles like Wargame and R.U.S.E. This new game puts players in command of detailed, historically accurate tanks, troops, and vehicles at the height of World War II. Players can measure their tactical skills against several opponents in big multiplayer battles or against enemies in a challenging single-player campaign. Steel Division: Normandy 44 allows players to take control over legendary military divisions from six different countries, such as the American 101st Airborne, the German armored 21st Panzer or the 3rd Canadian Division, during the invasion of Normandy in 1944.

Main Features:

Command Over 400 Historically Accurate Units:

Whether fighting for control in intense multiplayer battles with up to 10-vs-10 players going head-to-head, playing alone or working with friends in ranked matches, players will need to coordinate their selection of historically accurate infantry, tanks, aircraft, and support vehicles to counter enemy units in this Tactical RTS game.

Real-world Tactics:

Battles rage over three distinct phases, where different units unlock over time, mimicking the movements of real-world armies and adding variety to the ever-changing theatre of war. A dynamic front line illustrates the ebb and flow of the conflict. Pin down your opponent's infantry to gain the advantage and force a retreat, or push through with a perfectly executed plan.

Real-world Setting:

Using the latest version of Eugen’s IRISZOOM engine, players can smoothly zoom from a tactical aerial view all the way down to a single unit, and see 400 different real-world vehicles and units designed with careful historical detail and accuracy. Maps are designed based on actual aerial reconnaissance photos of Normandy in 1944, requiring real-world tactics and strategies to cover and control.

Outplan, Outsmart, Outgun:

From battlegroup customization to troop positioning and maneuvering, winning battles requires cunning and strategy, not just raw firepower. Each unit lost presents a growing tactical disadvantage, and players will need to fight to gain -- and keep -- the upper hand.

From commanding historically accurate infantry, tanks, and vehicles, to troop positioning and real-time engagement with the enemy, players will need to be clever and resourceful in order to win. Every unit counts as the battle presses on, and raw firepower alone will not be enough to claim victory. Whether viewing the entire battle from an aerial perspective, or following a single tank into a firefight, players will need to cleverly manage the dynamic front line in order to execute ambushes and advances.
