What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We've got a great and playable game right now, but we'd love the opportunity to add a lot more content and extend the metagame. Early Access will give us the room to do that.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Depends entirely on if it does well enough to warrant building out all the extra tidbits we've been scheming up.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“This is also something that will depend on how the game is received in Early Access. We've got more ideas than we know what to do with and a lot of additional assets have already been made (a space hamster? What?). As-is, Space Tyrant offers many hours of game-play, so it's just a matter of what people would like us to elaborate on and how many people are saying it. There are MANY POSSIBILITIES.

If i could call out one thing we'll always be adding more of, it's unlocks. There will be many more unlockable cards and other items when we push the game into full release. It's something we're constantly working on.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current game is surprisingly stable and there are many hours of game-play available. As with any game at this stage, there are bugs we're contending with, but we're slowly knocking them out.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I don't believe so. We're feeling that our current suggested price is perfect for the game that it is.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Since we're glued to the center of this thing, getting feedback on all aspects of gameplay will be incredibly helpful. We feel like we've got a good game, but feedback on how it could be better will be something we definitely act on. Of course it will need to work realistically with our release timeline, but we've got enough room that we could make some pretty exciting changes based on user feedback.”

An update of giant Hamstery proportions!

Tyrant ladies and Tyrant germs! We present to you today a fatty update for the holidays. It comes peppered with much game balance and bug fixing, but does not shy away from new art and hamsters. Wait... hamsters? You heard that right!

Now feast upon some build notes:

Space Hamsters - Giant space hamsters have been reportedly spotted around rare planets in the galaxy! Pack your fleet with powerful ships and hope to survive its artillery barrages!

  • Added special schemes at start of monopolize missions that will allow reduction of Unrest as progress is made in the mission.

  • All AI fleets obey capital ship limits now.
  • AI factors in ship class when making tech purchases.
  • Improved Tactic use.

  • Disasters events will now trigger at the beginning of a turn, not as a standard exploration event.
  • Time to avert disasters increased from 3 to 4.
  • Minimum turn before a disaster can happen increased slightly.

  • Updated loading screen to add emphasis to goals of the mission.
  • Updated Victory and Defeat screens with much more tyranty goodness.
  • A large amount of new card images to spice up your hand.
  • More exploration event art added.
  • Tyrant Scheme art updated.
  • Siege Display animation elements updated.
  • You can no longer free commanders from worlds that aren't prisons.
  • Scaling problem with Exploration dialog and 16:10 has been destroyed.
  • Clear Sky tactic no longer stays active for the entire battle once used.
  • Card deals are now serialized so you won't get random cards from saving/loading a turn.
  • Current Campaign perks won't be loaded in a Skirmish game.
  • Overlord Schemes will now always be available in a Skirmish game.

"This is really awesome, and you should probably give it a shot."
- TotalBiscuit, The Cynical Brit

"This is really good, some witlessly meme-y humour aside, retaining many 4X tropes but throwing out just enough to be punchy."

"You take the rule of the Tyrant threatening to take over the galaxy with your armies of doom, despicable acts, and a death ray that comes online when you're being especially bad."

About Blue Wizard Digital

Founded by Jason Kapalka, who formerly founded some outfit called PopCap, which made puny weakling non-space-conquering games like Bejeweled and Peggle and Plants vs Zombies, before it was acquired by the necrotic empire of Electronic Arts. Blue Wizard recently released the darkly comic sliding block puzzle/ 80's slasher movie tribute Slayaway Camp to Steam and iOS. The Space Tyrant team consists of a crew of gore-thirsting void pirates and psychic mutants barely contained inside a fetid barracks atop a Capitol Hill coffeeshop in Seattle. Sanctions are already in place.
