What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're out to build the best VR fantasy action game out there. We have a plan set out, and want to engage the players to hear what mechanics are most fun! When you're working with a close-knit community, the magic happens.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until first months of 2017”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full game will feature procedurally generated levels, each with a few randomized quests along the way. There will be a few unlockable player classes, all with drastically different skillsets. Players will gain upgrades, sidegrades and skins for classes and their equipment as mission rewards. Along the game, players will also collect "memories" - interactive dioramas that will slowly unravel the story of the world of Trickster and lead up to final conclusion.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game includes two game modes - Adventure Mode, with procedurally generated levels and quests to complete - and Wave Attack, to practice your Orc handling skills. Orcs won't give you an easy time. There are about 8 different enemies, each with individual skillset. The sky arena changes randomly every round so you'll have to move around to have the advantage.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Finished game will have a higher price. Price will increase along the development process with big, game changing updates.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Update early, update often. Get feedback on experimental features as soon as they're ready to roll out. Expand things that shine the most. Don't waste time on stuff nobody uses. That's how we do things around here.”

Hotfix and the State of the Co-op

A new hotfix to last week's patch with some important bugfixes and requested features you asked for. Also, a little insight on where we are with the co-op mode.

A brand new hotfix!
Changes and Improvements
  • Blink teleport is now default for Teleport Locomotion.
  • Added an option to change dialog volume to options.
  • Entering the portal without melee or ranged weapon will make player equip the default one.
  • Ballistas now use teleport assist to easier move player into right position.
  • Skyships now explode when shot down, killing the crew on the spot.

Bugfixes
  • Fixed a bug where enemies dropped from a killed skyship would be invincible.
  • Fixed a bug where switching to two handed weapons would make them appear with wrong rotation.
  • Fixed a bug where pooled arrows would continue their trail from last position.
  • Fixed a few places where orc projectiles would get stuck on invisible objects.
  • Fixed arrows getting stuck in enemy spawners on mission end.
  • Fixed a bug where skyships would sometimes drop troops on level entry portal.
  • Skyships will no longer bleed and scream in pain when damaged.
  • Skyships will no longer drop troops through Cathedral's roof.
  • Fixed a bug where Find the flock objective in Murder the flock quest could not be completed.

State of the Co-op
As some of you already know, we have a great ambition to bring online coop to the game. The work has already started and I'm happy to say that with client-sided hit detection the game maintains its fast paced and responsive feel. This of course only works now in a test enviroment, as all of the game components are slowly being upgraded to broadcast relevant data over the network.

First test version will be available at thebeggining of May on experimental branch. The goal of this version will be to test the netcode and how well unity relay servers can support a bandwidth-heavy VR game.

What will the experimental version include?
  • 4 player wave attack game mode.
  • Basic enemies.
  • Starter weapons.
  • Simple UI-based lobby system. (boring, but fast and easy!)
  • Placeholder player models (think RecRoom dismembered ghosts)

PS. Adventure mode should also happen around that time, although the quests will come later.

Update 14 - A Friend in Need

Update 14 - A Friend in Need
A big update, just in time for the weekend. Drop into the Broken Lands to say hello to your new companion. His out-of-this-world voice will smoothly guide you through your adventures, with just a tiniest bit of mockery. And yes, we do have some new tools of the trade to try out!

Scroll of Force
Ever wanted to fling orcs to their deaths with a flick of a finger? You'll love this one. This short range spell is a great tool to make some breathing room when you're surrounded. Plus, there is something weirdly satisfying about using it. You can find it in Nordhall.

The Kindness
Double treat for knife lovers. Its very short range and almost no defensive capabilities makes it as dangerous for the wielder as for the victim. It makes up for it with high armor piercing damage - don't have to look for open spots on heavy armored enemies any more. Its "Fan of Knives" special ability makes it easy to clear enemies right in front of you. As a bonus, holding the trigger on your controller makes the character switch to "blade down" grip. Find it in The Hollows.

Full patch notes below!

New features and improvements

  • Added a new outwordly companion to guide you through the world of Trickster! UpstartCrowe did a great job recording tracks for the character.
  • Added a new weapon - The Kindness - dual knives to play out your favorite rogue fantasy.
  • Added a new gadget - Scroll of Force - Send your enemies flying, just like you always wanted to.
  • Orcs gained 13 new voice lines. Additional credit for UpstartCrowe!
  • Reduced Red Crystal ray rotation speed by 70% on casual and 30% on brave difficulty. Will make it easier to beat.
  • Added a helper for teleport locomotion users to move next to the campaign map easier.
  • Rift users can now use grip trigger to pick up weapons and select levels
  • Players can now change in which hand they want to hold the bow regardless of their dominant hand.
  • A new sound effect for heavy damaged player.

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug where Smooth Controller turning would not be remembered after the game closes.
  • Fixed a bug where changing dominant hand with crossbow equipped would break it.
  • Fixed a bug where hit percentage and kill streaks would not be counted for some weapons.
  • Fixed crossbow bolts not getting stuck into the terrain.
  • Fixed a weird invisible terrain glitch at the top of the stairs in broken tower tile.
  • Fixed treasure chest shooting blood particles in the air.
  • Fixed a bug where killing crows on casual difficulty would sometimes complete the quest multiple times.

Hotfix 1 - March 24th:
  • Added new voice lines to wave attack mode - portal will now politely let you know when you're slacking.
  • Added new voice tips to each quest.
  • Added new misc portal voices.
