What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're out to build the best VR fantasy action game out there. We have a plan set out, and want to engage the players to hear what mechanics are most fun! When you're working with a close-knit community, the magic happens.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until first months of 2017”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full game will feature procedurally generated levels, each with a few randomized quests along the way. There will be a few unlockable player classes, all with drastically different skillsets. Players will gain upgrades, sidegrades and skins for classes and their equipment as mission rewards. Along the game, players will also collect "memories" - interactive dioramas that will slowly unravel the story of the world of Trickster and lead up to final conclusion.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game includes two game modes - Adventure Mode, with procedurally generated levels and quests to complete - and Wave Attack, to practice your Orc handling skills. Orcs won't give you an easy time. There are about 8 different enemies, each with individual skillset. The sky arena changes randomly every round so you'll have to move around to have the advantage.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Finished game will have a higher price. Price will increase along the development process with big, game changing updates.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Update early, update often. Get feedback on experimental features as soon as they're ready to roll out. Expand things that shine the most. Don't waste time on stuff nobody uses. That's how we do things around here.”

In today's patch we're introducing a couple of new drops, a new Powerup and a trove of fixes and improvements! Worth mentioning - that pesky bug that made scrolls duplicate and get stuck is no more!

  • Added new dropped item - Orb of Power - that recharges power meter on weapons when picked up.
  • Added new dropped item - Tome of Knowledge. When picked up, it rewards you with XP points for all weapons you currently carry.
  • Game Room and Game Region transitions will now fade to black instead of freezing the game for a few seconds.
  • Added a separate SFX Volume setting to menu.
  • Upgraded dropped ammo model for better visibility on the ground.
  • Added a timeout to stop game stuck on PEER CREATED errors.
  • Player's footsteps will now sound differently on grass and on stone, for some added immersion.
  • Increased max allowed ping to join a region to 250.
  • Fixed an issue where Push To Talk tooltip on oculus touch was assigned to a wrong button.
  • Fixed a small graphic glitch with push to talk icon.
  • Fixed a bug where picking up many powerups at once would sometimes make Player drop them when trying to use one. (Thanks to Rich G for help with this one.)
  • Fixed a bug where grabbing a powerup from a belt when standing over another powerup would not equip any.
  • Fixed a bug where red shaman familiars would sometimes break the game and cause the Home Island to vanish post-level. (Thanks again Rich!)
  • Fixed a bug in PSVR alpha build where the screen would not turn black&white after Player has died.
  • Fixed an issue where post-game scoreboard would contain different values for some players in the same game.
  • Hitting the dummies on Home Island will no longer charge your weapon during Wave Attack game mode.

Update 20: The Mastery

Hey there orc hunters!
We have a trove of new stuff for you today. With brand new Weapon Mastery system, each time you use an item, it will gain some XP points towards new power level. With each new level, you'll unlock meaningful upgrades, like better damage, longer reach or bigger power range.

To pay for all these new upgrades, you're going to need an orcish ton of gold! Luckily, gold is relatively easy to come by in Broken Lands, as orc purses and hidden chests will keep you in good supply.

Plus, the good ol' Wooden Shield gained a new awesome power. Shield-throw those pesky orcs into oblivion!

Patch Notes

  • The starter gear - Sword & Shield - has received a new Power - Disk Throw. Live that Captain America fantasy!
  • Weapon Mastery system - using weapons now grant players Mastery Levels for them.
  • Weapon Upgrade system - Mastery Levels unlock special upgrades that make items vastly more powerful.
  • Gold drops - monsters and chests now drop gold used to upgrade items.
  • Added item tab to the Menu - one convenient place to upgrade your items and check their stats.
  • Every item now has a detailed description with its properties. These can be viewed in the menu.

  • Rewritten Matchmaking code to use 80% less data and solve constant loading bug some players were experiencing.
  • Controller code, Shaders, Save System, Main Menu and Motion system have all been rewritten in preparations for Playstation VR version.
  • Settings Tab has be redone for better readability.
  • Items will now play a distinct sound when their powers are recharged.
  • Added sound feedback to menu.
  • Controllers will now show a ghostly overlay when a tooltip is displayed, but the model is hidden.
  • Weapon powers can now be charged by hitting Hay Dummies on Home Island and on Adventure Levels.

  • Controllers will now be properly hidden when using crossbows.
  • Burn Books quest will now appear more often.
  • Fixed a bug where grabbing and immediately releasing a gadget on the belt would break it for a few seconds.
  • Fixed a bug where teleporting into the portal with blink teleport locomotion would not count as jumping into the portal.
  • Fixed a bug where throwing healing flask near the portal would sometimes make it misfire.
  • Fixed a bug where wave attack games would sometimes not start.
  • Fixed a bug where hitting a dead enemy would charge melee weapon power.

Hotfix 1 - October 29th
  • Fixed an issue where Push To Talk Voice Chat mode would sometimes become unresponsive.
  • Fixed an issue which made unlocked weapon rewards unresponsive in coop mode.
  • Fixed an issue which caused a lot of game system break after launching a second game in coop mode.
  • Fixed a few too large colliders in game levels and another bunch with improper hardness settings.
