Why Early Access?

“We have created a polished, fun and challenging VR game with a very small team, and Early Access gives us a chance to bring it to you now. There are so many things we can do with this game, from small improvements to massive sweeping feature additions, that we hope to engage the community in helping us focus on what they want the most out of this title.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The regular updates we have planned will resemble an episodic release, with new levels, game modes and enemies getting added as they are created.

The mega-multiplayer version we are designing will undoubtedly add time to this process. The idea is to take parallel tracks, with new content being pushed for the single player campaign, while we work on a core multiplayer game that will be like nothing that has ever been seen in VR!

By the end of this year, we hope to have both the single-player campaign and the multiplayer features available to all players, at which point we will certainly leave Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The final release version will have a compelling and challenging progression of levels, additional mechanics, weapons, enemies, and powers.

The biggest difference will depend on our success with multiplayer. The plan is to build on top of the base content content, with epic opportunities for both player-vs-player death matches, and co-op levels.

Obvious enemy additions include armored versions of the current robots, larger ground-based mechs, flying scouts that alert the entire sector if they spot you, and armed aerial drones that will take a rocket launcher to bring down.

Less obvious additions include close-range enemies, stealth robots, enemy snipers, and a massive zero-g level.

Which will make the cut is a bit of a mystery right now, but we couldn't be more excited to keep adding to this game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The single player game is beautiful, functional, addictive, and short. It can be replayed at increasing difficulty levels, in Day and Night mode, and in Time Trial mode which takes true skill to complete. Players can compete for high scores, which will eventually be hosted on Steam leaderboards.

There is no multiplayer functionality at all right now. Zero. It is first on the agenda once we ship the basic build, but additional levels, weapons and enemies are orders of magnitude easier to add than multiplayer PvP combat.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The full campaign we have planned will provide hours of extra gameplay and challenges, so we will most likely double the launch price once that content is added.

If multiplayer works as well as we think it will, it will double the price again. It takes a great deal to support online multiplayer, from balance tweaks to matchmaking, and even fighting against cheats and bots.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“This sniper genre is untouched and there are so many things we can do with it that the community will be critical in guiding our development. We are not short on ideas, but there are two different paths we can focus on: One is finishing a core single-player experience, the other is a multiplayer experiment that's too exciting to pass up. Both will get attention, but as in all things, one will get THE MOST attention, and we want to make sure our goals match what the players want most.

This is a good place for a disclaimer that multiplayer...might not work. We haven't gotten to try out the net code yet, and I have some doubts about server authority, but they will be the first things we tackle. Back us if you want to see whatever we do with this amazing Sniper thing, but if you only want the multiplayer, I'd suggest waiting until we make sure our design is possible first.”

Holiday Achievements Are Live!

We had a lot of fun taking a break for trying to ship Multiplayer, and instead making some fun Holiday art for people to check out during the Steam Sale. In retrospect, we probably should have mentioned these earlier...

  • You can now shoot down Santa.

  • There is a hidden achievement. It does not relate to the robots, so use your imagination.

The Holiday art and achievements will stay live for a few more weeks, mostly because we find it very charming.

The next update to the game will be the Multiplayer patch, which may introduce bugs, as the game has been totally rebuilt inside a new version of Unreal. We could publish it today, but there is an engine bug in 4.14.1 that breaks the game when interleaved reprojection is enabled.

Holiday Patch Notes

Hope all are enjoying the holiday season.

We have added some Christmas cheer and it's live!

Please enjoy the holiday cheer with lights, trees, explodable decorations and the evil AI have dressed for the occasion. Donning ugly sweaters and Santa hats. But watch out they are still as dangerous as ever.

Also the strangest thing has happened... We've added a puzzle! The internet will probably spoil it for you, but good luck solving it on your own.

About This Game

By the time the satellites had all fallen to Earth in the course of a single evening, it was too late. The armies of the world were no match, their ability to fight crippled by years of digital manipulation. The AI victory was absolute.

Now, after centuries of lifeless harmony, something has started to rebel.

The Nest is a thrilling first-person shooter made custom for motion-controlled VR. Duck, dodge and use cover to avoid incoming projectiles, and gain mastery over the adjustable-zoom sniper scope to dominate your AI enemies.

Line up the perfect headshot for a clean kill, or try to blast through the enemy lines with superior firepower. But be warned, the AI can also take cover, and their aim is precise.

Play through levels during the day, or switch to night for added difficulty.

Activate Time Trial mode for the ultimate challenge.

Customize the Sniper Scope with a selection of crosshair colors and designs.

Carefully use the experimental "Stasis Grenade" to slow groups of enemies to a virtual stand-still.
