What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Rumpus intends to get as close to "Made of 100% Organic User Generated Content"
as possible without disappearing, so I need your help exploring its possibility
space and seasoning it into a highly potent concentrate.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“At least a year!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Some of the major features in development:
* Multiplayer
* Shareable object libraries
* A much, much friendlier VR-native language (no typing)
* In-world audio synth-graph building
* In-world shader and geometry editing
* Built-in materials, transparency, refraction & shadows
* Customizable render pipeline
* Continuously moving as much of the engine out of the executable and
into "live space" as possible”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“A fully functional livecoding environment with an entity system, rendering, physics,
realtime sound synthesis with positional audio, animation, teleportation, knobs,
code editors, an object palette, a scene switching system, timers, and more.
Each of these is a very rough draft and will be evolving significantly.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Probably!
Rumpus is open source, so you can build a copy yourself (though it's a pain in the butt).
The Steam Edition is meant to provide a convenient stable release
(with all of Steam's nice features) and as a way to support Rumpus's core development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Everything you make and share will help guide the direction of Rumpus.

While the real multiplayer is in development, you can share your
scenes and objects by grabbing them from your Documents/Rumpus/ folder.
(Scenes are just folders, and objects are just .hs files)”

About This Software

Rumpus is a live-coding playground for room-scale VR.

Please note that Rumpus is highly experimental! There will be bugs, crashes, performance issues, and possibly even ghosts. It's easy to wedge it in its current state. If this happens, you can always just delete or move your Documents/Rumpus folder aside to get a fresh start.
