What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Why settle for the ideas and opinions from the development team when we can have the feedback from the whole community?
Your input is extremely valuable to us. Together we'll make an awesome game!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Four to eight months depending on the amount of workable feedback from you guys!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

  • The game will have additional tracks.
  • The full version will have a more polished GUI.
  • You will be able to collect more rewards.
  • We will use a multiplayer matching server.
  • You will be able to play ranked games.
  • Better sound effects.
And of course many brilliant additions we haven't thought of yet that YOU, Early Access players, might suggest!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is a fully functional game with:
  • Eleven different playable tracks.
  • Time Trial with online leaderboards.
  • Custom-races vs AI opponents.
  • Split-screen.
  • Lan and online multiplayer.
  • Power-ups.
  • Unlockable skins.
So a lot of the functionality is there, however a bit unpolished. We encourage you to join us, and feed us with more work!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price when leaving Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is a vital part of our development. To get feedback on what's there and suggestions of what could be there is the very reason for us to be on Early Access. All feedback and any suggestion will be seriously reviewed by the development team.”

Version 0.19 released, with headband updates

Hello ballers!

In this new patch we've added tons of stuff for headband players! You can now see how well you performed after a race, and keep track of how your focus scores (hopefully) increases over time! If you have a Muse headband and Windows 10, you can now use Interaxons new Muse Direct app which simplifies connecting your headband to Mindball Play. Keep in mind this function is in early beta so make sure to report any bugs you come across to us!

We now have support for the Brainlink headband which is a simpler headband without built in gyroscope, which makes it a bit more affordable! It can also be used without any bridge app! Check it out in our shop.

You can now also try our new game mode where you play with both a controller and a headband! The headband will, as usual, keep track of how well you focus, but now the focus will decide how well YOU can control the ball with the controller instead of AI-steering the ball. Activate the new game mode by changing Input Mode to Controller+Headband before you start a race!

We've also improved the physics of the game, meaning the general jumpiness of the balls should be much better, and the balls rolling much smoother.

In the next few weeks we will focus on upgrading our version of Unreal which should improve performance and fix some bugs. Keep your eyes out for the next update!

Good luck everyone, hope you have fun with this new update!

Changes in version 0.19:
  • Support for BrainLink headbands added.
  • Support for Muse headbands via Muse Direct for Windows 10, an alternative to the bridge-app for Android or iOS.
  • Focus-graph added at end of games when using headband.
  • Development over time graph added to profile when using headband.
  • Faster connections to headbands and bug-fixes when using the mobile bridge app.
  • Headband name now shown when starting split-screen games.
  • New input-mode for playing with both gamepad and headband simultaneously.
  • Physics tweaked to stop the ball from bumping from false collisions with flat parts of the track.
  • Pendulums now weigh less when playing using headband.
  • Added secondary color for use with some of the ball skins.
  • A few track-fixes.
  • Minor fix for AI-opponents when using headband.
  • Power pickups are now picked up when you come back from ghost mode after a respawn.
  • Ghost particle effect color tweaked.
  • Small menu fixes.

Why Mindball?

Millions of people have, for years, wished for their own Mindball - a game where you move a ball with your brain waves! Now it's finally the time to make their wish come true!

Have fun while you train your brain - prove your focus skills and practice your ability to achieve a calm mind with fun, engaging and challenging races.

How does playing with your brain work?

Your brain sends out electrical signals, all the time, without interruption. The technique used for reading (and presenting) the electrical signals from the brain is called EEG, (electroencephalography). Scientists have identified that you are focused when you produce a great amount of electrical signals with a high amplitude, within a specified frequency band. We use this technique and that knowledge in our Mindball Products.

The headband we use for moving the ball in Mindball Play picks up the electrical signals from your brain and sends them via Bluetooth. In Mindball Play our algorithm (the same as in the Mindball Game tables) gives to what extent you are focused. We use that value to steer the ball; high focus makes the ball go faster and stay on track better, low focus makes the ball go slower or even off track.

Which headbands are supported?

Brainlink from Macrotellect.
For Brainlink you just need to pair the headband as a Bluetooth device and you are good to go.

Muse from Interaxon.
For Muse you need a bridge-app to handle the Bluetooth connection to the headband. Bridge-apps are available for Windows 10, Android and iOS here.

If you use a Muse headband, you can help steer your ball left or right by tilting your head to the sides. This is controlled by the gyro built in the headband.
