What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are releasing into early access because we want to make the best game possible. We feel this means involving the community in the design process as we rework and iterate on our current and new features. We think we have a great "base" of a game and want to evolve that into something folks will really enjoy playing.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The goal is to be in Early Access for 3 to 6 months depending on community involvement.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan on adding more content such as new player ships and enemies, and improving/expanding the existing progression systems like items and ship upgrades. We also look forward to working with the community to develop new features/content based on feedback during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Our game is "large" feature complete. This means that all the basic game play pieces are in the game; you have ships you can choose to pilot, there are enemies to blow up, and you get items to upgrade your ship.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We are not planning on changing the price between Early Access and Release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We're looking for help refining the combat by tuning the controls and balance. Feedback on the progression system, and ways to improve it. Lastly we want direct feedback on ways you'd like to see the game expanded, content ideas and direction for inclusion in Release or Post Release content.”

Update 1.7.4

Lubing up the plasma injectors! This update focuses on making the game run and play better. To do this we've worked on the games performance and balancing. Our goal is to make the game fun, challenging and with engaging decisions from the start all while running at a minimum smooth 60 frames per second.

We got our performance gains through reworking physics behaviors and greatly reducing our draw calls. Outside those two large areas we also made a lot of small changes throughout the game to find and squash anything that was using a lot of CPU effort unnecessarily.

For balancing and gameplay we've worked on items and enemies. This means improved item stats and several iterations of balancing to make them more interesting when compared with each other. We've also fine-tuned item and money drop rates to give a better experience. Enemies are now more frequent and there are now some special very powerful enemies to make things more interesting. The education bonuses have also been increased to make the choices more meaningful but so has the interest rate of the loan it gives you. Paying it off is more fun though since your skill in the game gives you more item or money drops. One shot kills, multi-kills, kill streaks, and the very powerful enemies all give you more loot.

  • Special powerful enemies
  • Vsync setting

Key bug fixes:
  • Enemy movement and AI improved to be completely framerate independent.
  • Health drops will fly to you correctly whenever or wherever you are if you are damaged.
  • Surt ship secondary attack works correctly.

Update 1.7.3

This update focused on making the game more exciting and interesting to play. We've done a little balancing, UI effect additions and in game effect improvements.

Part of that is showing more relevant information to the player. For example adding specific stats back to the inventory screen so you can see an overview of what your ship can do as well as the bonuses your education is providing. Another is including data on how you are paying down your student loans.

And of course a bunch of bug fixes for a few crashes as well as other issues in the game.

Other changes:
  • Make players name stand out in leaderboard lists.
  • Improve enemy ship deaths to include the death spiral.
  • Fixed engine sounds; you make noise when moving and extra fancy noise when boosting.

Fixed some UI issues brought in with the new UI.

“It's a very very fun, top down, 2d, diablo style, procedurally generated, rogue like, almost, kind of, shooter. Wow, I, so many, this game has so many genre's, I love it. Void Vikings, gentlemen, go check it out.”

About This Game

Pick your ship and pile on the student loans for an education that will best compliment you and your ships abilities. Be wary you don't take on too much or death could find you before you're able to pay it off. Blast your way through waves of enemies to collect items to outfit your ship and Space Bucks for upgrades. Choose systems to warp to based on their difficulty and interest rates to maximize how you're able to enhance your ship and pay off your debt. If you survive long enough to destroy your loans as you've destroyed your enemies you can take your well educated and battle tested ship into Valhalla to attempt a high score for the leaderboards.

  • 2.5D, top down, fast paced, action packed roguelike space shooter.
  • Four unique ships with their own special abilities.
  • Go into debt for an education (choose University, Major, Minor and Electives) to boost your abilities.
  • Pay off your education with Space Bucks you get from destroyed enemies or melted items.
  • Use items to increase your fighting power, melt them down for item upgrades or debt payments.
  • Procedurally generated items, star systems and enemy fleets make each attempt unique.
  • Paid off education and ship combinations saved for endless high score attempts on Steam Leaderboards.
