“We are releasing into early access because we want to make the best game possible. We feel this means involving the community in the design process as we rework and iterate on our current and new features. We think we have a great "base" of a game and want to evolve that into something folks will really enjoy playing.”

Get an education!

In this update we've added an education based progression system and leaderboards. The education gives you specific stat bonuses (like increasing your primary damage) but they have a cost you have to pay back. You pay it back with the Space Bucks (formerly Upgrade Units) you get from melting down items you don't want. You will have to decide between upgrading items with Space Bucks or paying down your debt. After the first system (5 waves) your debt will earn interest. To win you need to pay off the entire debt from the education you chose.

If you are able to pay off your education debt then you can use that ship, it's equipped items, and the associated education bonuses to attempt a high score on the leaderboards. Here you have no inventory, no items are dropped and there is no pause between waves of enemies. You also can't resume a score game by exiting to the main menu.

Other big changes:

  • Previous high score entries will be lost.
  • Fixed all currently reported crashes.
  • Several balancing changes for items.
  • Nerfed the Skadi ships offensive ability.

Update 1.6.2

This is a tiny update to add crash/issue reporting to the game and overall make the game easier.

If the game encounters an issue it will now send that data to us so that we can investigate. This all happens behind the scenes so there is no user interaction needed. It is, however, tied to the analytics setting so if you have that turned off no data is sent.

Here is a list of the data that is collected with an example:

  • Error name -> Exception: This is the test of the analytics disable.
  • Call stack -> ErrorReporter.Update () (at Assets/Scripts/Debug/ErrorReporter.cs:33)
  • The amount of RAM in MB -> 32724
  • The OS version -> Windows 8.1 (6.3.0) 64bit
  • The CPU architecture -> Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz
  • The # of CPU cores -> 8
  • The graphics device type -> Direct3D11
  • The graphics device name -> NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980
We're making the game easier by reducing all enemies health by 50%.

About This Game

Pick your ship and pile on the student loans for an education that will best compliment you and your ships abilities. Be wary you don't take on too much or death could find you before you're able to pay it off. Blast your way through waves of enemies to collect items to outfit your ship and Space Bucks for upgrades. Choose systems to warp to based on their difficulty and interest rates to maximize how you're able to enhance your ship and pay off your debt. If you survive long enough to destroy your loans as you've destroyed your enemies you can take your well educated and battle tested ship into Valhalla to attempt a high score for the leaderboards.
