3DF Zephyr 3.700 out now!

Good news, everyone!

3DF Zephyr 3.700 is now live on Steam!

The first, long awaited change you'll notice, is the support of multi textures in both output (you can generate textured models with more than one texture, finally!) as well as in input: you can re-import meshes with custom UVs in multiple textures. Hurrah!

Many of the new core technology improvements include: SfM speed in bigger dataset, a new texturing algorithm which can also use photconsistency information and automatic blurriness filtering, MvS optimization and much more.

Many tools have been revamped and improved: 3DF Masquerade now offers a turntable-specific optimization, the quality index tool have been improved a lot, the selection now consider backface culling, and much much more!

Full 3.700 changelog:

+ Added support to multi-texture generation and major texturing improvements
+ Added Sharpening filter during texturing
+ Added Blurriness detection during texturing

3DF Zephyr 3.5 is ready for download!

We’re very excited about v3.5 and we’re sure you will love it too!

What’s new in this release?

This release focused in merging major technology improvements that have been developed for a while in our office. With the addition of our
hyperplane matching technology in our MvS pipeline, 3DF Zephyr is now even more accurate than ever. The same can be said about our texturing algorithm, that has been improved a lot as well as other many internal optimizations.

3DF Zephyr is the complete photogrammetry software solution, and with v3.5, it’s even more complete than ever!

As usual, we also improved our existing tools and added a lot of new important features as well: being able to export texture in exr/tiff has been one of the most requested features in the last few months, and we’re happy to have that too in v3.5!

Other tools worth mentioning are the fan-favourite frames extraction from video (that has been improved witha better UI), a new shader system (you can also write your own shaders, too!), full unicode support, point cloud filters and much, much more!

The full changelog of Zephyr 3.500 is the following:

  • Structure from Motion improvements
  • Multiview stereo significant improvements
  • Added Hyperplane matching
  • MVS Final voting phase speed-up
  • Texturing improvements
  • New shader system with custom shader editor for mesh and textured meshes
  • Improved frames extraction from video
  • Improved 4k UI support
  • Added 4k video export support
  • Added kmz – LOD export
  • Added Full Unicode support (also file loading and object names)
  • Added Autopath creation from all cameras in animation
  • Added two new point cloud filters (noise/distance, plane fitting)
  • Texture can now be generated and exported in 16bit (exr) or 32bit (tiff)
  • Improved dense point cloud post processing and coloring
  • Improved obj import speed
  • It is now possible to disable coloring to speed up processing
  • It is now possible to use unified and persistent cache folder
  • It is now possible to zoom/reset view on a specific object
  • It is now possible to drag and drop an entire folder to load 3D models
  • Better memory management when loading image of very big size ( >50 Megapixels)
  • Fixed a problem with synthetic bubble views
  • Fixed a crash during surface extraction
  • Fixed a bug that would sometime crash zephyr when applying filters
  • Fixed many other minor bugs
  • Fixed DNG white balance issue
  • Preset tweaks
  • Minor ui fixes
  • Miscellaneous fixes

About This Software

3DF Zephyr allows you to automatically and easily create 3D models from photos.

The process is completely automatic and no coded targets, manual editing or special equipments are needed: with a user friendly interface and the possibility to export in many common 3D formats, 3DF Zephyr is the perfect tool for 3D modelling from reality.

Steam Edition includes all 3.x updates.

Please note that 3DF Zephyr runs only on Microsoft Windows x64 operating systems (Vista and later)

Q: How long does it take to create a 3D reconstruction ?

A: this depends on the number of pictures, the resolution of the pictures, the settings used in Zephyr as well as the hardware of your computer! It can take from a few minutes up to even several hours! An example? The dismal statuette used in the video takes about 1 hour on an i7, 8GB ram notebook with a Quadro card. We have a trial version you can use so you can make your own tests before buying, but feel free to contact us if you want some clarifications!

Q: Which file formats can Zephyr export to?

A: Zephyr Lite can export to PLY , OBJ/MTL, FBX* and STL.

*Pro and Aerial can also save the Camera orientation in the FBX, although the Lite version can not.

Q: Does Zephyr support 3D printing out of the box?

A: The output, while ready for 3D printing, might need some adjustments in your 3D printer's software.

Q: Are there limits in 3DF Zephyr Lite, compared to the Pro edition?

A: Yes, most notably you'll be limited to 500 pictures per single project (which are a lot!) and up to 2 nVidia cards for GPU processing. For a more in depth feature comparison, feel free to check our website. However, remember that the core technology is the very same.

Q: How should i take pictures ?

A: The better the picture quality, the better the results. Obviously a DSLR camera works better than a phone camera, but you can get results even with reasonably cheap hardware. Please note that reflective and transparent surfaces might be a problem, which sometime can be solved in the way the pictures are shot, and sometimes they can't. In our free tutorials, we tackle this issues and we are always ready to take a look at your dataset if you have doubts. A certain overlap between images is required.
