About This Game

Surfingers – The new game by the creators of the cult Timberman.

After a spectacular success of the Timberman game (over 30 million downloads worldwide) , Digital Melody Games' new arcade game is ready. It's all about surfing this time.

Surfingers is a arcade game with controls based on up-and-down movement. The player must change the height of the wave in a dizzying pace, bypassing many obstacles (ships, balloons, rocks, trees, bones, pyramids etc) and try to get as long as possible without touching anything.

The game offers surfing through various worlds, including: ocean, snow, desert or hell. There are over 20 characters available to choose from, which can eventually be unlocked for the achievements or gained stars.

"The graphic design of the game was inspired by 1970s California, colorful posters and the Surf Rock music genre. In addition, we used a variety of colors to make the game more enjoyable"

"That was close, we would never have released Surfingers. You need to prepare many prototypes of the game to find the perfect gameplay. I remember that we have reached the milestone in that single moment we introduced the diagonal waves and changing worlds. Thanks to these changes the game got incredible playability.”

Game features:

Over 20 characters to unlock
Surfing music and graphic
Worlds full of dangers
Innovative gameplay
GABEN surfing at 100 bill! What could be more cool then that!!! Come on!!!

I bought it for like 50 cents. You get trading cards so it was kinda worth it. I dont really like when Steam puts mobile games on here but some are good but I cant think of that many.

Basic Information
Title: Surfingers
Developer: Digital Melody
Publisher: Forever Entertainment S.A.
Genre: 2D arcade

General Impression
Surfingers is another PC port to a hit mobile game from Digital Melody. Simple gameplay mechanics fit very well with stage and character diversity and you’re in a constant struggle to beat the last highest score. It features relaxing and thematic surfing music and the visual style is also reminiscent of old-school arcade games from the past. Surfingers also has multiplayer support and both trading cards and achievements proving to be of great value given it’s more than decent price tag.

Strong Points
+ Simple and fun gameplay.
+ Steam Trading Cards & Achievements.

Weak Points
- Gets repetitive pretty fast.

Rating 6/10

Simple and fun.

Only problem is that playing against your friends is pretty much impossible unless no one else in the universe is trying to play online.

"Riding the waves of death"
Surfingers is from the makers of the nasty games "Timberman" and "Tiki-man". As boring as simple those mobile port games are, Surfingers also means to quick react, but this time vertically. You ride an endless wave but have to shift the valleys and mountains together to get a straight walkthrough. The speed becomes insane in the late levels. It's just hard but also challenging. There's even a built-in MP with splitscreen, Steam leaderboards and a bunch of characters to unlock. Unfortunately with no other behaviour (just other skins, but different starter levels). I just wonder why the great surfer dies on upper edges. He could do the best jumps of his life ...

As I get older I tend to enjoy casual games more than I used to, so personally I don't mind this trend of mobile games or ports coming to steam at low prices. For 50 cents, this game is definitely worth it. The gameplay, while nothing revolutionary, is very fun and challenging. The developer also was smart enough to have the game run at 60fps natively, so the developer did not mistep there as far as im concerned. The menu options are also sufficient for a game like this. The most impressive part of this game is that there seems to be no screen tearing even at high speeds which is also a plus for a game like this. My only complaints would be that there is only one song in the game, and it can get tiring listening to it. The game also supports online multiplayer and local versus, which is something i've seen a few mobile-to-pc devs include lately which is welcome. Now if I could only find another friend to play it with.

This is the best Poseidon simulator on market.
But nothing else beyond that.

A quick message to the developer(s): it looks like you might have talent in making stuff, but this is not the game to glorify it.

The review:
  • The gameplay is plain and boring, esentially you use 2 keys to control the waves your surfer... surfs. It's easy to understand, but it gets really bull♥♥♥♥♥♥ once you reach later levels. That being level 2. It's bad.
  • The start is PAINFULLY slow and your surfer's speed accelerates way too fast, as by the time you reach twenty waves, your head will get very dizzy.
  • About those waves I mentioned earlier, that's the scoring system. The more waves you passed succesfully, the higher the score. However, once you reach a set amount, you'll switch levels, and boy oh boy, the difficuly curve gets ridiculous.
  • The soundtrack consists of 2 songs. Two. You heard right: the menu and the gameplay. That's it. The one on the gameplay side starts off well once you play this the first time, but gets extremely irritating once you have to restart over and over and over again.
  • There are unlockable characters to choose from, all of them locked a score rating OR you could buy them with stars that are somehow scattered within the waves. Most of them are just masochistic to get via the score route, so you'll end up using the stars, which are plentiful if you enjoy playing. Also, some of them are unique, and make the game even harder than it is. yay.

That concludes it. If you are willing to buy this, here's my tip:
Turn. That. Piece of sh!t of gameplay song. Off. And put something else.
If you are wondering why I have 2 hours invested in this is because I wanted those bloody cards and I tried my best to find something redeemable within this. Nope.

In the end, spend your money somewhere else and don't buy everything steam coupons give you.

I'm gonna start by briefly comparing this game to Timberman; if you enjoyed Timberman, you'd probably enjoy this. If you don't know what Timberman is, then continue reading.

    Pros
  • Gameplay is simple and controlled with 2 buttons
  • Very fast-paced
  • Lots of characters to unlock
  • Steam achievements and trading cards
  • Supports both local and online multiplayer complete with in-game ranking system
  • Various resolution, texture and fullscreen settings as well as audio volume settings
    Cons
  • Game becomes too fast-paced early on; many of the achievements are nigh unfathomable to get without nearly overdosing on caffeine just to compensate for one's human reaction time
  • The soundtrack composed of one song that gets old after a while; fortunately, the in-game volume can be adjusted and/or muted
  • Doesn't actually teach you how to surf.

Surfingers is a game that is controlled entirely by two buttons: the up and down arrow keys (or the W and S keys for up and down if you don't want to and/or can't use the arrow keys). The object of the game is to prevent your surfing character from crashing by moving the terrain he's on (be it water, snow, etc) up and down to keep his path continuous. You gain a point for each 'section' of terrain your character successfully surfs.

Another thing to note is that the game supports both local and online multiplayer, and also has achievements and trading cards.

Every rose has its thorn, however; My complaints about this game begin with how fast it is; it feels like I'll be punished for even blinking once whenever I get to the snow area (i.e. zone 2), as the game is moving so fast that it's based purely on lightning reflexes (which quite honestly feels faster than the average human reaction time). To prove my point, Zone 1 ends at around 80 points; as of writing this review, only 12.4% of players (according to global achievement stats) have the "Score 100" achievement (meaning they've made it a little bit into the Snow zone), whereas a measly 2.5% of players have scored 200 (presumably beating the Snow zone). To add insult to injury, the highest scoring achievement is "score 500", which a whopping 1.2% of players have achieved. Another thing is, unlike Timberman, Surfingers has an active multiplayer search function rather than a passive one; If you want to play online multiplayer, you're gonna have to wait for a match rather than be notified after each run in singleplayer when a multiplayer lobby is available.

Overall, the game serves as an excellent timekilling game that shouldn't be taken too seriously.
