About This Game

Surfingers – The new game by the creators of the cult Timberman.

After a spectacular success of the Timberman game (over 30 million downloads worldwide) , Digital Melody Games' new arcade game is ready. It's all about surfing this time.

Surfingers is a arcade game with controls based on up-and-down movement. The player must change the height of the wave in a dizzying pace, bypassing many obstacles (ships, balloons, rocks, trees, bones, pyramids etc) and try to get as long as possible without touching anything.

The game offers surfing through various worlds, including: ocean, snow, desert or hell. There are over 20 characters available to choose from, which can eventually be unlocked for the achievements or gained stars.

"The graphic design of the game was inspired by 1970s California, colorful posters and the Surf Rock music genre. In addition, we used a variety of colors to make the game more enjoyable"

"That was close, we would never have released Surfingers. You need to prepare many prototypes of the game to find the perfect gameplay. I remember that we have reached the milestone in that single moment we introduced the diagonal waves and changing worlds. Thanks to these changes the game got incredible playability.”

Game features:

Over 20 characters to unlock
Surfing music and graphic
Worlds full of dangers
Innovative gameplay
GABEN surfing at 100 bill! What could be more cool then that!!! Come on!!!

This is a runner game with a twist - instead of moving our character to dodge an obstacle as usual, here we lower or raise the surface level he's currently gliding over (tide level) & after he passes a dangerous object we need to make sure the surface matches the incoming wave level (the next segment of the pathway) otherwise the character falls. So we just control the current wave with up & down buttons, the aim is to glide as far as possible for the record. At first it turns out to be a tricky task, but when the brain accomodates things get easier & afterall this looks like a very simple action for mobile platforms. The primitive visuals are still funny, the energetic music's allright, what I didn't like is the color scheme for the later part of the way (cave) - both the background and the rocks are dark grey there, hardly distinguishable & all this gets unbearable, like artificially hard & I just refused to play any further.

Got bored after half an hour. Maybe it's the one song starting over and over again, maybe its just me, whatever.

+Steamcards + low price (on sale) = free game to your library
-Repeative gameplay + nonexistant multiplayer = boring game
+Steam achievements - but they are too hard, srsly.
+Gaben skin - involves crapton grind time.

Overall its a good buy but not very fun game.

This game is good way to spend free time, but at some moment this game starts to look really annoying and you will also get bored really quickly. Overall experience is really average, because you have only two choices, which are to play either singleplayer or multiplayer, which is not bad for games like this one, but still in my opinion something else should be added to it ( for example game editor mode or level maker to create you own levels). Also it would be great to add extra things like checkpoints and different difficulties (easy, hard, e.t.c). I would rate this game 6/10 and will recommend to play it if you really got nothing else to do. Otherwise, don't buy this game.

This is the best Poseidon simulator on market.
But nothing else beyond that.

A quick message to the developer(s): it looks like you might have talent in making stuff, but this is not the game to glorify it.

The review:
  • The gameplay is plain and boring, esentially you use 2 keys to control the waves your surfer... surfs. It's easy to understand, but it gets really bull♥♥♥♥♥♥ once you reach later levels. That being level 2. It's bad.
  • The start is PAINFULLY slow and your surfer's speed accelerates way too fast, as by the time you reach twenty waves, your head will get very dizzy.
  • About those waves I mentioned earlier, that's the scoring system. The more waves you passed succesfully, the higher the score. However, once you reach a set amount, you'll switch levels, and boy oh boy, the difficuly curve gets ridiculous.
  • The soundtrack consists of 2 songs. Two. You heard right: the menu and the gameplay. That's it. The one on the gameplay side starts off well once you play this the first time, but gets extremely irritating once you have to restart over and over and over again.
  • There are unlockable characters to choose from, all of them locked a score rating OR you could buy them with stars that are somehow scattered within the waves. Most of them are just masochistic to get via the score route, so you'll end up using the stars, which are plentiful if you enjoy playing. Also, some of them are unique, and make the game even harder than it is. yay.

That concludes it. If you are willing to buy this, here's my tip:
Turn. That. Piece of sh!t of gameplay song. Off. And put something else.
If you are wondering why I have 2 hours invested in this is because I wanted those bloody cards and I tried my best to find something redeemable within this. Nope.

In the end, spend your money somewhere else and don't buy everything steam coupons give you.

Basic Information
Title: Surfingers
Developer: Digital Melody
Publisher: Forever Entertainment S.A.
Genre: 2D arcade

General Impression
Surfingers is another PC port to a hit mobile game from Digital Melody. Simple gameplay mechanics fit very well with stage and character diversity and you’re in a constant struggle to beat the last highest score. It features relaxing and thematic surfing music and the visual style is also reminiscent of old-school arcade games from the past. Surfingers also has multiplayer support and both trading cards and achievements proving to be of great value given its more than decent price tag.

Strong Points
+ Simple and fun gameplay.
+ Steam Trading Cards & Achievements.

Weak Points
- Gets repetitive pretty fast.

Rating 6/10

I'm gonna start by briefly comparing this game to Timberman; if you enjoyed Timberman, you'd probably enjoy this. If you don't know what Timberman is, then continue reading.

  • Gameplay is simple and controlled with 2 buttons
  • Very fast-paced
  • Lots of characters to unlock
  • Steam achievements and trading cards
  • Supports both local and online multiplayer complete with in-game ranking system
  • Various resolution, texture and fullscreen settings as well as audio volume settings
  • Game becomes too fast-paced early on; many of the achievements are nigh unfathomable to get without nearly overdosing on caffeine just to compensate for one's human reaction time
  • The soundtrack composed of one song that gets old after a while; fortunately, the in-game volume can be adjusted and/or muted
  • Doesn't actually teach you how to surf.

Surfingers is a game that is controlled entirely by two buttons: the up and down arrow keys (or the W and S keys for up and down if you don't want to and/or can't use the arrow keys). The object of the game is to prevent your surfing character from crashing by moving the terrain he's on (be it water, snow, etc) up and down to keep his path continuous. You gain a point for each 'section' of terrain your character successfully surfs.

Another thing to note is that the game supports both local and online multiplayer, and also has achievements and trading cards.

Every rose has its thorn, however; My complaints about this game begin with how fast it is; it feels like I'll be punished for even blinking once whenever I get to the snow area (i.e. zone 2), as the game is moving so fast that it's based purely on lightning reflexes (which quite honestly feels faster than the average human reaction time). To prove my point, Zone 1 ends at around 80 points; as of writing this review, only 12.4% of players (according to global achievement stats) have the "Score 100" achievement (meaning they've made it a little bit into the Snow zone), whereas a measly 2.5% of players have scored 200 (presumably beating the Snow zone). To add insult to injury, the highest scoring achievement is "score 500", which a whopping 1.2% of players have achieved. Another thing is, unlike Timberman, Surfingers has an active multiplayer search function rather than a passive one; If you want to play online multiplayer, you're gonna have to wait for a match rather than be notified after each run in singleplayer when a multiplayer lobby is available.

Overall, the game serves as an excellent timekilling game that shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Exposition, Concurrence and Summation

Surfingers is another game in the long line of do a simple and menial task as quickly and for as long as you can until your brain either ceases to function or forms a wrinkle and then you join the X-men.

In this specific case you play as surfer person lady-dude finger and are granted control of the ocean; which I can only presume was from Poseidon himself. You must press up or down a number of times in either direction to line up the crest of the waves in order to continue and collect stars which is the main currency of the game.

You can unlock different characters through score or through grinding out stars to purchase them. All you really need to know is scoring or paying 9999 will net you GabeN himself.

Fun, mildly addicting; A decent thing when you want to game but you “can't brain anymore”.

"Riding the waves of death"
Surfingers is from the makers of the nasty games "Timberman" and "Tiki-man". As boring as simple those mobile port games are, Surfingers also means to quick react, but this time vertically. You ride an endless wave but have to shift the valleys and mountains together to get a straight walkthrough. The speed becomes insane in the late levels. It's just hard but also challenging. There's even a built-in MP with splitscreen, Steam leaderboards and a bunch of characters to unlock. Unfortunately with no other behaviour (just other skins, but different starter levels). I just wonder why the great surfer dies on upper edges. He could do the best jumps of his life ...

(1/5 star) Really shallow gameplay. If you liked Timberman, then you'd like this. Just timing up/down to keep the water platforms connected. I got bored after 5 minutes. Just no incentive to keep going other than to beat your best score. I would have much preferred if it had some jumps, air time, or let you see a few waves ahead to plan your moves (like tree limbs in timberman), or something to add some thrill. Or perhaps only having to match up with higher waves to the right, and let him shoot off a wave if higher. But he just crashes if your wave (platform) is higher than the next. Seems like some more depth could have been added. Just way too boring to me. Timberland was actually slightly more engaging, and had a more active online multiplayer (at this time).

Like Timberman but more difficult because there is 3 shapes of the wave. And the game play doesn't look as smooth because hitting a button speeds up the character a little. The music gets tiring. It is one of those simple games to kill time. Something like temple run if you're into that kind of games.
