What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access is a fantastic platform for us to get player feedback as instantly as possible. As character balance and depth are the cornerstone to a versus and a combat-based game, we want to get it just right while maintaining character uniqueness and difference in gameplay. We will be pushing forward until we achieve the balance and fun as perfect as possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“With our new vision for Wishmere and our internal confirmed content, we're looking at being in Early Access until sometime in Q3 2017.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Wishmere will have all 7 playable characters, with a Story Mode with cutscenes, a Free Mode, 35+ bases in Base of Darkness Mode, and a collection of unlockables that will include lore items and taunts.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of the Early Access version is stable and fully playable. It features all 7 characters that are 100% complete. You can play up to 4 players in local multiplayer (co-op or versus), 17 bases in Base of Darkness and the game supports both controller or keyboard. As of February 23, we will not be updating Wishmere in Early Access, until we launch our full release. This gives us the ability to progress with Story Mode with all it's secrets and stages, without giving away any gameplay or storyline spoilers.
Also, if you come across bugs or glitches, do drop us a line and we'll get to it as fast as possible.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, after Early Access, we will be pricing the game slightly higher than currently listed in Early Access. However, we will not be moving the price during Early Access, so do get the game at a discounted price now and help us make the game better!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Fun, balance and in-depth gameplay are all on the top priority. In order to achieve the best possible game Wishmere can be, we want the community to give as much feedback as they can. To us, feedback from the community is the most important thing as we develop: it lets us know what we're doing right or wrong. You can find us on the Steam discussions or on Twitter. With every update or change to the game, we release Change Logs to keep the community up to date with all changes made.”

What's in Full Release, plus Early Access thanks

Hey everyone. We'd like to inform everyone that close to the finish line. It's been a long but awesome 2 years of development for Wishmere.

So, what new features are going to be in the full release? Along with all the current features in the Early Access version, these are the new features. Read on!

Free Mode

Free Mode is like Story Mode but can be played co-op with up to 4 people. You'll get to upgrade your skills and take down enemies and bosses across 7 stages. Each stage has their own 'personality', from saving students to inputting a secret code. Some stages even have (small) secrets!

Story Mode

Story Mode is a single player campaign that explores the story of Wishmere. The character you end up playing for a stage depends on the narrative of the story.

Training Mode
Now with fully featured settings, including dummy settings and input display.

Additional gameplay mechanics
You can now tech recovery from being floored to being airborne with invincibility, similar to Blazblue. Also, Invalid Throws have been implemented to prevent 'jailed' opponents, who are in blockstun, to be thrown by normal throws.

Base of Darkness Mode

The challenge map mode of the game. Includes a total number of 35 bases, including new bosses (like the Wishmere as bosses).

Tutorial Mode
Every gameplay element of the game broken down as concise as possible. Updated to include the new gameplay mechanics.

Unlockables

As you play, you can unlock Taunts (7 taunts per character, tied to Keepsakes) and Keepsakes (which are little trinkets that explain some lore).

13 colors for each character, including some fun nods

From 7 colors in Early Access to 13 for full release. Who doesn't like colors?

Steam Trading Cards, Badges, Emoticons, Achievements
Good old Steam collectibles.

Early Access Color Exclusives

And as a thank you to the Early Access players, all Early Access players will all get an exclusive color for all 7 of the playable characters. The exclusive colors will be included with the full release of the game for those that got Wishmere during Early Access. Though, this applies to anyone that picks Wishmere up from now till the day before date of release, so everyone can get it on with some exclusive color action.

We're looking at nailing down a release date soon. In the meantime, do help us out and share the news of Wishmere's upcoming release with your friends who might be interested!

Hotfix Update 7A

Hey guys,
We just launched our newest hotfix! Good news is that we’ve fixed a lot of the reoccurring bugs, performance-issues have been fixed and generally making the game more consistent. Bad news is that the fix might be a little boring to you guys :(

However, the biggest addition in this hotfix is the additional ‘hitstop’ added to all attacks that make contact with enemies. Hitstop is a game element where there is a brief stop when an attack makes contact with an opponent. This allows for players to properly tell what is going on in the game, rather than frantically having to interpret what’s going on. This should make combos easier for players and also keep the player feeling strong, due to the increased impact of each attack. Hitstop is normally present for fighting games and certain beat em ups, so hopefully this helps.

For a list of the changes, check out the Change Log here.

Cheers everyone.
