My playtime: 11.8 h (last boss killed, normal difficulty, map size 70, dungeon level 10) (based on steam)

Intro
Your Quest is a semi idle-open world rpg themed game where you can build a village and slay monsters. The game will end after you slain the last boss.

Graphics
The graphics in this game looks like RPG maker graphics, and it looks worse than that because it's zoomed out. The UI is also quite simple and only shows what's important.

Music
The music is decent. It sounds like music from old RPG games where everything is on bass.

The game
When you are starting a new game, you'll be provided with several options based on what world that you want to create. Will it be a big or a small map? Will it have lots of few caves? Will it have easy or difficult enemies? You can also modify your stats and character looks.

At first, there will be a tutorial to help you understand the game. The game might start slow because of the delay between actions (chopping a tree and pickaxing a stone might take like one minute) but you can make it faster after you upgrade the tools. Although there will still be some delay between actions after upgrading it to the "ultimate gear", it's still bearable compared to the initial gear. Note that the character clothes will change based on the armor you are using. In the first few hours, you'll mostly looking for resources in order to be able to build anything you need to slay the monsters.

You are supposed to build a village in this game, which means, you will build houses. Houses will grant you housing for people which will come to your village whenever there is a food. The villagers can be assigned to a job which will be unlocked after you build a certain buildings. The villagers can look for food themselves or even help you to look for materials. This is what makes the game to be semi-idle. You can just wait for the villagers to collect the material for you and leave the game running while you are doing something else.

Besides the collecting resources, crafting, and building, there is a minimum of one cave in each game which can be explored. There are several floors in the cave (a minimum of 10 floors), and the last floor will contain a monster which is supposed to be the last boss. You'll need to be prepared to beat it because it's very strong.

The game will end after you slain the boss, and you'll have to start a new game when it happens.

Mods
The game itself is heavily moddable. You can add new equipments, buildings, everything! You can also even edit the save file in order to change whatever you want. In my case, i change the movement speed to 32 to make my character (and monsters) run faster.

Pros:
- Heavily moddable game content
- You can start the game in your preferable setting

Cons:
- Starts very slow

Summary
This is a game which will require you to be patient. You'll need to wait a lot and i advise you to play it idle. Although this game mostly will be played idle, you actually can make it non idle by changing the save file. The game's fun can be ruined by changing the save file though.

Should you buy this game?
Yes.
That's if you love idle game with RPG theme. Also, if you also like a moddable open world game you'll like this game even more.

Played 10+ hours (offline steam). Great game. Enjoyable. a bit repeatable and boring, and slow at first. End-game is very fast on the other hand.

Soundtrack: 9/10 [i totally loved it. Very immersive]
Gameplay: 6/10 [Slow at first. Has great potential for more content.]
Graphics: 8/10 [Verily well done pixel art graphics. I wish they added item sprites additionally]
GUI: 5/10 [On one hand you have everything, on other, too much. Played on 1366x768 resolution. at end-game some options were out of visible range and i couldn't chose them (?)]
Controller Support: 10/10 [used xbox360 controller. Very enjoyable, easy, at first a bit hard to remember some functions binded to buttons, everything is explained though]
Extra: -3 for bugs. Game crashed a LOT of times, mostly in dungeons, had to save every few enemies so i didn't lose progress. after finishing game, there was screen "you won", music, and couldn't do anything. Sometimes when fighting enemy, the game glitched and other enemies were moving, able to attack you despite being already in fight with the first enemy (weird glitch).

Summary: 35/50 worth buying on discounts. I got it for free. Probably won't have bought it ever. Game is much more fun than what you can see on video/pictures.

So as an original Warcraft player. I really enjoy the building methodilody. I am kind of disapointed in its graphics. I understand the genre but I feel as if it were zoomed in a bit more with less textures from the trees that you could tighten up the quality of the characters. Somewhat similar to Diablo. For that I have a hard time playing through because of it. Gets hard on the eyes and Im on a fairly big monitor with high resolutions. I also think the time could be sped up a bit on the mining aspects. ONe of the biggest downfalls of Warcraft was the time it took. AI think i could chop down a tree quicker in real life. LOL. IN all fairness. Im not sure the engine its built on But I love the genre so Im not gonna stop playing it just because of that.\

I know my play time is short but just playing for 30 or 40mins and you can get a very good general idea of what the game is.

I love these types of games, although admittedly i prefer to watch people play them as i personally lose interest in them fast when playing on my own.

Very simple and very easy to pick up and play which is very nice as other types of games like this can become a bit overwelming with the amount of things you have to remember.

I will admit i kept messing up the controlls i dont know why but i kept feeling slightly awkward to me i think mainly because im not used to enter being a main key for a game. THe graphics are very nice but im biased as i love 16bit

Things i like.
The music was very nice, very calming and hihgly enjoyable i would say this game deserves the soundtrack tag
The simplicity was highly refreshing and nicely done
The amount of stuff you will be able to do when the time and dedication is put in caught my interest i will diffinatly be putting in a lot more time on this game.

Things i didnt like.

Honestly right at the start everything was just way too slow. Now i understand that you're meant to be with out tools and everything but when its at the point where you gather things and even move around is so slow you get bored.

I like the idea of presing ctrl to move on the spot but i personally find it redundant and should be somthing that is just implimented in to basic controls

Suggestions to the game creator.

Maybe consider increasing the basic movement speed slightly or give an option to run but only for a short time
Slightly increase the speed of the very early game gathering speed.

I would love to see the creator add multiplayer to this, even somthing as simple and a 2nd player being able to join from pressing start on a controller I think you will find a lot more people would enjoy th game if they had someone else they could play this with as you would not only progress faster but also not get bored when you have to collect a large ammount of 1 thing (like trees or stone)

Overall i think a lot of the bas reveiws are undeserved as this is a very well dont take on the survival type genre and was very well done at being made 10 times simpler.

6/10
8/10 if multiplayer is added and speed is increased

[4/10] As fun as killing a mammoth with a spoon.

To be honest, I'm not really into this RPG Maker wave of games.
Not that I don't like old school JRPGs ; I was a big fan of Chrono Trigger and Bahamut Lagoon, back in the days ; but they lost their appeal to me, and I don't play much with this type of games anymore.
But today, I was given away this one, YOUR QUEST, and was like "Seems nice! Let's try it out!".

So, this is a kind of RPG where you play a character lost in a forest and with a quest. Which one, you ask? Creating a village and protecting it from monsters.
Simple pitch for a simple game.
At the beginning, you'll be starting with minimal equipment and a guy named "mentor" who gives you small missions and advices. Soon enough, you'll be cutting trees, building a house, hunting squirrels and plowing fields...
Nothing very original, neither specially bad, you might say!
So why the bad grade and recommendation?

The first thing that hit me was the music.
Not being a big fan of MIDI tunes doesn't help, but the score of this game is kind of dull and uninspired. A few tracks are better than the others, but it gets boring and repetitive real quick.
So I went into the menu and cut it out after thirty-five minutes of gameplay.

The second thing was the lack of animations.
Note that in this game, they are not really of importance. But, well, it's all very stiff. And slow. Yes. Your character must be the son of a turtle and an snail, cause taking a few steps from its house to the next tree takes him almost one hour of its time. And it can't run.
Talking about time, I hope you got loads to lose, cause when you go to your house to rest your character, it just idle in front of the house, doing nothing, and the time passes as if you were still playing.
After I had a few villagers and some bread, I never rested again.

What hit me next was the save system.
6 slots, no control over them. So, when you save the game, better remember what was the previous spot, cause you'll be reloading a few times to find the good savestate. It lacks a log showing you which save is which.

And so I was hit again (my nose started to bleed). This time by the ressource management system.
Why on earth do the same house needs 350 logs when the previous, which was its exact copy, needed only 300 of them, and so on? Are they playing JENGA with the logs? Making mountains of toothpicks?
I rapidly found out the answer. It virtually adds some lifespan to the game, which would be quite short if not for this kind of subterfuges.

So? It's a mobile game concept. It's like playing a fartphone app like "TRIBEZ AND CASTLEZ", minus the "pay-to-win" part.
And I don't like this kind of games.
Too repetitive.
Boring.
And pointless.

Pleasantly surprised by how much fun I'm having.

Forewarning:
Note the casual tag and the price...this game is fun, but don't expect any hardcore depth. It's more something i've just been playing while watching some YT vids. Also, I will say I used a 360 controller, the controls both keyboard or controller, I think could use some touch ups. But at this point I've gotten use to the 360 controller.

Btw, once you get to the best tools, you can chop tree's, or harvest rocks in 1 second.

This game has 2 parts to it. On one side you're building your village, and crafting new items & buildings, to give you access to more items/buildings. Take note, I didn't realize this, but some buildings require you to be at a certain level (discussed later). Basically you have your tools, ranging from axe to sword. Each level increases dmg down, along with length of time it takes to harvest. The first time you harvest a tree, you just click once, but it will take a long time. You have to realize that you don't really want to do much harvesting, let your villagers do that...which they retrieve items from the jobs you've assigned them to on an hourly basis in game (in game hour = 1 min real time).

The other side is a simple dungeon diving exercise. You'll see a dungeon entrance on your map, you can go down and kill things. Killing things earns your XP, which earns you levels. Start out with killing the bunnies and squirrels above ground first, and watch out when you're level 1, those squirrels hurt. Then aim for armor/sword...to help kill faster. As you go down further into the dungeon, the levels get larger, monsters get harder. Save often (not something I really need to say for an rpg, but I said it anyways). However, as you gain levels, from killing things, check to see if there are new buildings or new tools/weapons to be built. Some buildings/items can't be built until you're a specific level.

Overall I've really enjoyed playing, and I'm still not done.

So many world corruptions that make this game unplayable. Every hour i get a corrupted world and loose all my progress. If this is fixed i will update this review.

Edit: They fixed the problem and seem to take what is said and change things fast we will see how it goes.

Edit 2: The dev is working to make the game better and more customizable, thought this game already is very customizable. Make the world yours

*Updated Review*

I ran into a problem that was easily fixed with a reinstall of the game. So I changed my review to a positive review

Your Quest is a pixelated 2D stratergy/survival game. You start out with nothing but wooden tools, and you work to progress your way to better tools and weapons, as well as building and maintaining a successful village of your own creation! It really is "Your Quest" because you can build your village like you want it.

As a fan of retro 2D pixelated games like this, I find this game to be extremely satisfying in both visuals and mechanics. The movement is a bit slow, but other than that I think this game is very well made in those aspects.

There is a simple yet effective crafting system and another simple building system. I'm a huge fan of the way the developer set these up, because they're not confusing in the slightest but they also get the job done well

One thing outside of the game that really impresses me is the developer's interactivity with the community. He listens to suggestions and actually recently fixed a bug pointed out in a steam review.

All and all, I'd recommend picking this game up. I'm curious to see what's in store in the future.

Purchase if you like supporting Indie Developers
That being said, Your Quest is a good game. It's challenging and time consuming but in a fun way. Imagine an Idle game mixing with Darksouls, in an RPG village building system. It reminds me of my old SNES days.

Pros:
  • the Developer and community respond quickly. I've seen bugs patched or suggestions implimented the same day they were reported or suggested.
  • Retro style graphics
  • Idle game themes
  • Dungeon crawling
  • Village Building
  • Highly modable game, you can change the graphics, resource requirements, level requirements, create new enemies or items, basically whatever you can imagine!

Cons:
  • There were bugs early on. but they have all been fixed.
  • It can take some time to learn. there is now a tutorial which helps
  • Once you've beaten the game there isn't much left. but that takes a while to accomplish and is a true achievement

Overall
$5? absolutely worth it if you understand your not getting a AAA+ rated game like fallout. It's a simple indie game that I've spent hours enjoying. Half of my amusement has been communicating with the Dev and community as we all try to make this game even better! the Developer listens to the community! 10/10 just for that.

If you've ever played the browser, text-based game "A Dark Room" It's basically that, but with graphics. It's still a bit buggy as the author is still adding/removing/breaking/fixing features.

EDIT: The game is now stable with no new features being added regularly to cause breakage.

My only complaint about the gameplay would be that the charm of A Dark Room was that you could set it and let your supplies accumulate while you did other things, but the slowness of the decorating means you are active the whole time if you want a nice looking village. It's a good game if you need a mind-numbing, theraputic relaxation game that doesn't require much thought or effort, but you still want the illusion of accomplishment.

EDIT: Now that the "Advanced Equipment" menu has been fixed (in ~24 hours after it was broken by an update) I was able to make better equipment to remove/place tiles much faster meaning the building is not as slow once the game picks up and you have more time to relax.

nice little game, need to play it more, but i love it for what it is. needs improvements like making swords costs a lot less ressources to craft i think its a bit exagerated that you need 100 wood and 50 stone for a sword, you guys should make it the same as a pickaxe or axe. but its a fine game and good idea :)
