What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Hypatia is a dynamic, user driven MMO, and that means a lot of what we are doing is unique and experimental. Rather than keeping the project in the darkness until we reveal a completed version, we want to get users playing and telling us what they want to see. This allows us to test our network infrastructure, improve features and tailor the experience to our users. We are committed to providing a maximally stable, engaging experience, and it is very important for us to hear from the community before releasing the final version.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are currently planning to be in early access for one sprint cycle, which is 90 days for our team. That should give us enough time to get and apply feedback from the community, as well as enhance features for networking and stability. Our goal is to leave EA as soon as possible.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The next version will have a new set of regions, including new gameplay elements and experiences based on the feedback we receive from EA. We will also be refining and improving our core systems, including the network infrastructure and player options. Since Hypatia is a multiplayer experience, the full version will still continue to evolve and have new content added regularly, even beyond the Early Access period.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Hypatia is launching with 15 levels, including features like 3D painting, VR boats, live theater, spray painting, maze exploration, surreal museums and a lot more. We have a functional auto-spawning server architecture, secure data storage, multiplayer social voice, and a variety of user controls to make sure players can manage their experience. We had considered launching as a full version, but we want feedback. We need to test our infrastructure and make sure that the experience is maximally engaging. As soon as we have confirmed scalability and gotten feedback, we can move out of Early Access, and plan to incorporate a lot of the feedback we receive.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not currently have plans to change prices when we leave Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Hypatia is a user-driven experience, so it is very important to us that we build an experience that people want to play. We plan to talk to the community, poll users with questionnaires and offer a form on our website where users can give feedback. We plan on incorporating a lot of the features, suggestions, and improvements that are suggested by the community.

We make lots of tutorials and videos sharing our process. We are starting a video podcast where we'll invite community interaction, and we encourage players to contact us on social media. Since Hypatia is multiplayer, we also plan to spend a lot of time interacting with players directly inside Hypatia and taking their feedback to build the best experience possible.”

v1.0.107 and short term road map!

This is a pretty significant update with quite a few things to look at. First of all we’ve changed our shading model, which means the world will no longer be blurry at a distance. This is a major visual update and it does cause some occasional graphical issues, but we’ll be actively working on fixing all of those as we go forward. If you find something we’ve overlooked please let us know at support@timefirevr.com

We’ve also fixed a pretty large bug that had been plaguing us - your hand should no longer get “stuck” if you rapidly pick up an object.

Additionally, we’ve been reviewing everyone's feedback from Steam, Reddit, and in-world conversations. While we can’t talk about specific feature and additions (like new levels!) that are still a ways out, we would like to talk about what we’re working on now, that we can guarantee will be released in the near future. Upcoming features include new movement options, a map, inventory & avatar features and more!

You can get all the details here: http://timefirevr.com/category/hypatia-news/

v1.0.107 Patch notes

  • Switched shading mode so that the world will no longer appear blurry at further distances
  • Increased the Screen Percentage range from 100-130 to 100-170. We recommend that only computers with top of the line graphics cards go above 130.
  • Increased default item cap from 1 to 2.
  • Fixed the issue where your hand could disappear if you grabbed an item repeatedly
  • Fixed the issue with the “void” not resolving you on the proper side of the wall you walked through
  • Context menu titles should now display properly
  • Loading screens should now work properly on both Vive and Oculus!
  • Servers should now be reused more often, resulting in paintings being preserved for longer
  • Fixed an issue where you would see the player’s hand while they are holding an object if you joined after they picked it up.
  • Fixed the elevator that was clipping through walls in the Cogwheel Garden
  • Fixed a crash in Boat Racing relating to the scoreboard.
  • Making a 3D painting mesh “Live” now properly accounts for the energy cost (and displays the cost on the menu)
  • Various sound updates
  • Fixed painting canvases lock feature. (Prevents the painting from being painted on further)
  • Improved the rotation of an arriving player after a map change. This is still a work in progress.

  • Fixed occasionally seeing two shadows for your hands (Incorrectly reported as part of last fix)
  • Fixed incorrect painting on some surfaces in Paintville and the Art Studio

  • The sharing type menu button for 3D paint meshes will now open the proper sub-menu
  • Fixes bug where clicking yes in friends list doesn't actually add them to the friends list visuals right away.

  • Group chats will now properly clear on logging out of the voice service
  • Fixed server gate in Centrum South
  • Fixed “Toggle” grabbing mode

About This Game

Hypatia moves Virtual Reality beyond the game with a social and immersive world that brings the magic of an infinitely creative space to VR. This first release of a small corner of our city is a glimpse at what’s to come.

The pioneering citizens of Hypatia will find incredible activities that will entertain them for hours on end. We invite everyone to play with our painting tools in environments where fun is let loose. What’s more, it’s all in a shared space where visitors can talk with one another and explore everything from the fantastic to the impossible.

Our museum will take you through the looking glass where art may not be what it seems at first glance; we invite you to step right in. Next, visit our interactive theater where you can put yourself on the stage in a vaudeville style production of your making. Don’t feel like being an actor? Maybe you’d like some puzzle solving in our Cogwheel Garden where not only might you learn something about gears, but you might just reach the top of the tower to take off in a sky boat.

Boats! We’ve got that covered too over at our Waterfront. Get ready for a workout should you feel up to the task. We guarantee you’ll be huffing and puffing to win this race. There are hidden places to explore too, but if we told you what they were and what you’d be doing we’d spoil the surprise.

Speaking of surprises, who’s not awed by the delight of watching fireworks on a summer night? Visit Kapow Lake to fire off all kinds of fireworks. Along the way you can learn something about the chemistry of these beautiful bursts of color in the night sky as you build your own virtual fireworks.

Step into Paintville, the first multi-dimensional virtual coloring book. You’ll have an entire neighborhood to paint everything from the sky to your friends. Chaos will run riot as buckets of paint and graffiti color this corner of the world in a palette shaken right out of the rainbow. The only thing missing is unicorns. Nope, we’ve got them too….and cats. Need pictures of cats and unicorns? There are currently four types of virtual cameras to take and share pictures with. From the original 1865 Daguerreotype camera to a Polaroid or the first digital camera, the Dycam.

Best of all, this entire experience is growing into a massive collaborative social space where the citizens of Hypatia are the actors and the story in this evolving new city of the future is happening right before your eyes. So join us in Hypatia where creativity is the currency and you are on center stage in a new world of Virtual Reality.
