I never played the original Gunman Clive. But for $3......this game is borderline Epic!......for the price.
I've payed 10x that price, for games I could not even finish, they were so bad!

Two Thumbs Up for this one though! Need to go back and play the original Gunman Clive I guess.

More Worthy Than it's Predecessor

After just a few levels, I've come to the conclusion that THIS installment of Gunman Clive is better than the first. As much as I love the first one (and still play it every now and then on my 3ds) this one is just vibrant with more beautiful colors, music, and textures. Not to mention the more challenging gameplay, which is bound to make you get tons of retries on your first playthrough. Plus, with the extra challenges like "No Damage", as well as 4 save files, and 4 playable characters (with one locked) each with their own abilities, it's bound to keep you interested in it for a long time. Plus, it's cheap.

I loved the first game so when I saw a sequel had been released I snatched it up immediately.
Absolutely worth the full price.
The bosses are challenging and brilliant.
The new playable character adds a whole new dimension of difficulty.
The game does feel longer and more challenging than the first and is of course more vibrant with the added colors.
It stands apart from other Megaman type games with its great level design, bosses, western charm, and perfect price point.

The Gunman Clive games are just amazing. What you get here, is superb platformer gameplay. Challenging, but fair. Short, but rich in variety. And just very enjoyable and very much worth the small price they're asking for it. If you ask me, they can make 5 more of those. I will buy them all. Highly recommend both titles!

WAOW, what a based a** game. This is a very worthy sucessor to the first one. The level design is much better and just plain awesome (you never know what you and Clive will be doing next), the enemies are very varied and well-done, the visuals are f**king fantastic, the music is kick-a**, and the bosses are extremely cool. This game is longer than the first game, it takes abouy 2-2.5 hours to complete, and tougher, but very fairly so. It's one of the best games i've played recently, and at 3 dollars it's excellently priced. I HIGHLY recommend this game; a lot of heart, soul, and creativity was put into it, something you rarely see in games these days, and it shows. BUY IT NOW!!!

Gunman Clive is honestly my favorite platformer of this year. Played it on my 3DS and enjoyed every moment of it. Sure, I got frustrated when I couldn't get through a stage, but that satisfaction of beating the stage you were stuck on for the longest time is amazing. Soundtrack made it even better going through the stages and the boss battles were challenging and that's a good thing. Now Gunman Clive 2 does everything bigger and better. More variety in boss battles, different types of stages compared to the first one, and there's more color! COLOR PEOPLE! The soundtrack is still on point with everything you're doing. Probably the best $3 spent on Steam ever.

The first one was already a worthy Mega Man style game and with the addition of the new, creative environments, this game is nearly perfect. For the price, you can't find a better game in this genre.

Incredible platformer that brought a freshness to the gaming world and especially to the genre. With unique combination of 3D graphics and sketch artstyle I can only feel sorry that developers didn’t present some real, deep story.

Gunman Clive 2 is the sequel to one of my favourites from 2014. What happened? I'll get the good out of the way, so what does Gunman Clive 2 do right? To start the soundtrack is as good if not better than the original, featuring more varied tracks. The controls are fair, though this might just be me adjusting to the steam controller, but I feel the original had tighter controls. Bosses are more interesting and the difficulty has increased overall with both Chieftain Bob and the Duck offering a mix-up to the regular gameplay all of the above is what I appreciate from this game.

So what do I feel Gunman Clive got wrong? The clear crisp sketch like visuals are now muddier than before, where previously colour was limited to enemies, various effects and the occasional bit of background scenery, now that everything is in colour I feel something has been lost in the transition. World and level design also feels off to me, devoid of originality. No longer does the stages feel concise but rather littered around the world for the sake of "more diverse environments". The stages suffer as a result, becoming both unoriginal and forgettable.

I think the worst part is one of my major complaints about the original title still stands. Difficulty levels are meaningless, yes the difficulty of the game has increased but the choice of difficulty is pretty inconsequential, especially if you're going for the no damage run.

I'll summarise for the sake of clarity, I don't think this is an inherently bad game, but as a sequel it has left me disappointed. If you do want to get this, I would urge you buy the 3DS version if you can as it is pretty much better than any other version of the game. I didn't want to give this a negative review, it's really deserving of a mixed review. So I guess I'll be the one to leave the first public negative review.

Quick Thoughts -
If you played the first Gunman Clive game and/or enjoy platformer games, go ahead and buy this, you won't regret it.

More In Depth Info -
I really enjoyed the first game so I was very much looking forward to playing this. The developer incorporated a stronger color palette and many new ideas for level design. As with the first game, the Boss battles are a big selling point to the gameplay and he nailed it again with Gunman Clive 2. There are some things that also bugged me a bit and I will go into detail in the below PROS vs CONS list.

- Mostly Solid Controls, I will explain some flaws in the CONS area..

- The levels are short, which is a good thing, because you go back to the start of a stage every time you die.

- There are 3 characters to play as and each has a slightly different style of gameplay mechanic, so it adds to the replay factor of the game. There is also the Duck Mode which was in the first game as well...that mode is insane.

- The game has a very unique art style and in this game you face everything from dinosaurs, to even riding a Panda...yeah, I said a Panda.

- The average game time is around 2 hours for a first time playthrough, but can be done much faster once you understand the gameplay and get better at the stages. Again, I mention the different characters you unlock, which forces you to play the stages slightly differently. Playing through the different characters will add around 2 hours each, so this game has a 6hr+ gameplay, which is impressive for such an inexpensive title.

- The Music is fantastic, just like the first game, really adds to the experience and enjoyability of playing this game.

- In this game there are now some "third person" style which you are behind the character instead of the standard 2D side scroll action. I'd compare one of those stages to a Star Fox style. Definitely an interesting addition to the game.

- The BOSS Battles are beautiful to look at and very fair to the player. None of the Boss Battle I came across in this game were overly difficult.

- The PRICE is outstanding. I play a lot of games and very few at this price point have been anywhere near as solid as this game is. I truly hope the Dev pursues a Gunman Clive 3.

- As with the first game, the levels with the "gravitational pull" arrows are back. For the most part they are not too annoying, but a few of the later stages get a bit tedious on the controls and timing. I'm not a fan of this mechanic and if there is to be a Gunman Clive 3, I would hope the Dev added more "platforming" and did away with this "gravity" stuff.

- In some areas where precision timing is required the jump button did not activate quick enough "trying to jump twice quickly". This lead to some anger moments since I had to redo the stage from the start upon each death.

- The jumping is a bit sluggish/floaty, but you get used to it fairly quickly. If you played the first game, you know what to expect.

- The controls to "aim" in the "Flying" areas are a bit weird, so I would of liked those to be a bit tighter.

- There were not as many weapon choices in this game as there were in the first. I would of liked a bit more assortment, but the weapons included get the job done.

- You can only shoot straight in front of you, no angle shots. However, I understand why the Dev did adds a bit to the difficulty. I will say he did keep the "Contra" gun in this game, so if you get that you can shoot in three directions (top/middle/bottom)

That concludes this Review, I honestly really enjoyed playing both of the Gunman Clive games. This game added New Features and Level Design that blew me away. If you are interested in these style of games...go ahead and buy this game, it's best couple of dollars you will have spent on Steam.

Feel free to take a look at my other Reviews, I am always honest in what I have to matter if I get a game for free or not.

With that said, I bought both of the Gunman Clive games...and I would buy them again. This is an excellent developer and we should help support those Indie Devs that are actually good.

Totally awesome. Better than the first (which is also great). It's a very well-rounded platformer with a healthy mix of enemies and obstacles. Gameplay is not too long and not too short. The difficulty settings and varying attack styles of the different characters give it a nice amount of replay value. It's the right amount of challenging for something to enjoy - not excrutiatingly difficult but not too easy.

My new favorite game. The animation - especially in the dinosaur world - is awesome.

Very fun. I think I had more fun with 2 than the first, I also really liked the 3d levels. Though with 2 I ran into more problems with compatibility. I felt like through the entire game i was contantly dropping to 20-25 frames even with low filtering, and im sure this is with the game itself. Other than that, a great sequel to the first one.

By far one of the best games I've played, as well as best experiance while playing.

Music 10/10
Graphics 10/10
Gameplay 10/10
Replayabilty 10/10

This game is incredible! Plus it only costs $2.99

Keep in mind this isn't an easy game, but when you finally beat a level that's been causing you trouble it feels so great

A much more varied and polished experience than the first game. The levels always manage to stay fresh and interesting, and they never overstay their welcome. Having to replay whole levels each time you die may be annoying to some people, but the levels are just short and fun enough that I never found it annoying or repetitive.

Over-all its more robust and fleshed-out than the first game, and I definitely recommend it, sale or not, because either way its a super cheap price for a pretty solid platformer!
