What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Since the success of our Kickstarter, the community enabled us to develop Dimension Drive with them to create a game that is truly unique. Now, we are at a stage were Dimension Drive is a solid experience and we want to open it to a bigger community through Early Access so that together we can make a great shoot'em up. Balancing the levels in the story mode requires a lot of iteration to make it perfect, and we need you to work closely with us to create a great experience !

Finally, as an exclusive for Early Access players you will be able to fight in The Multiverse. Every 2 weeks with each new update, there will be one new level where you will compete against all other pilots to beat the high-score in the global rankings. Effectively, you will never run out of something new to play while we are in Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It is hard to estimate exactly how long Dimension Drive will be in Early Access, though we are aiming for a period of around 6 to 12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will be the definitive shoot'em up experience we always envisioned. At the time of writing we can at least say that the full version will expand and improve in the following areas:

- more story
- more art
- more animations
- more world
- more levels
- more game modes
- more enemies
- more bosses
- more weapons
- more abilities
- more Steam integration (cloud save, trading cards, leaderboards...)

Moreover, as we are always paying close attention to what the community really wants there may be extra features, levels or game modes we have not yet planned and that will come through meaningful conversation with you, the players!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“It is awesome! Not kidding :P However, it is incomplete. The current state at Early Access launch includes the following:

- 2 Worlds with a total of 8 levels
- 2 boss fights that will make you rethink what you know about shoot'em ups
- 6 minibosses
- The story up until the end of World 2
- 3 games modes: single player, local co-op and The Multiverse (bi-weekly challenge)
- 2 difficulty settings (Normal and Hard)”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may increase after Early Access depending on the extra features we add during its time in it.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will work with you to ensure Dimension Drive is the best game it can be through a number of channels: Steam Community forums, our Discord, website, Twitter, and Facebook. We have already been working for over a year with Kickstarter backers to polish game to its current state. We plan to keep our open development philosophy were you see what we do and can provide us feedback so that together we can improve it and make it awesome(r)!

Update #35: Stream Trading cards, weapons balance and hotfix

Hello again!

Wait what!? It hssn't been 2 weeks since the last update you say? We couldn't wait! So we decided to just go for it, don't worry you still have the regular 2 week period for the Multiverse challenge :)

In this update we are rolling out the Steam Trading Cards, we've also balanced the Pulse Evolved and Plasma Torch weapons and did a quick hotfix that shall cure the save game issue, restart the levels with the weapon you had selected and improved the Energy Warning penalty system to avoid 0 score situations (you still are penalized though).

Update #34: Pew, Pew, Weapons!

Hello everyone !

Update time has arrived :) Besides the regular Multiverse we bring you 2 huge changes to the game. The first one is what you see above.

That's right, we now have 4 weapons available with normal and powered up versions to chose at the start of each level. In this first weapon iteration we decided to bring you 2 short range weapons and 2 long range weapons. Here's what they are and what they do:

This is your usual suspect that's been available in the game from day one. Jack of all trades weapon, balanced for every occasion.

Pulse cannon
This is the second long range weapon the game gets. Firing rate is slower compared to Vulcan but each shot is wide enough to hit several enemies in one go. Moreover, it has piercing capabilities. Line them up and kill several baddies with a single shot. Ah, yes, and more importantly it's multi-directional once powered up.

Flak shotgun
We come to the first short range weapon of the game and honestly my favorite weapon now. This is an overpowered beast that will blast huge ships in a single shot at point blank. What's the catch? You need to get really close to point blank enemies and each shot of this beauty will cost you a lot of energy. It's a totally different way of playing: press that fire button only when you are really in the face of the enemy and it will deliver a punch they didn't expect.

Plasma Torch
The second short range weapon. This one is hard to explain, it really needs to be played to feel what it does. In summary, it delivers a continuous stream of plasma that curves and changes as you move around the battlefield (think about a flamethrower in space). You'll need to get close to the enemies as well but you can still keep that fire button pressed continously contrary to the shotgun.

The second big change this update brings is that the Level Report is now integrated at the end of the levels. This allows you to see how you performed compared to others in the Leaderboards and retry if you want to improve without the need to go to any menu.

Finally, in this update we upgraded the game to the last version of Unity (5.6). This also took quite some time but the game should be now more efficient thanks to it.

Please consider this update concentrates on features rather than polish. We still have to improve the look and feel of weapons and menus but we wanted to get them out and in your hands so you can alredy tell us what you think of them.

As usual remember that we will be watching all our official channels for your feedback

About This Game

Dimension Drive is a Dual-Battlefield space shooter with a teleportation mechanic. It seamlessly combines shooting and puzzle mechanics. Dimension Drive will teleport you into a comic book styled sci-fi space opera set in a multidimensional universe. The Ashajuls, a cruel multidimensional alien race, are attacking our universe. Fight as Jackelyne Tywood (a.k.a. Jack) in The Manticore, a legendary ship capable of teleporting across space and dimensions. Uncover the mysteries of your past and the origin of the Dimension Drives with your trusty friend and A.I., "V.E.R.A.", at your side.

  • A New Type of Shoot’Em Up: Dimension Drive is a Dual-Battlefield vertical Shoot’Em Up with a focus on smart, quick teleporting.
  • Rich Sci-fi Adventure: Unfold the secrets of the Dimension Drives and your past, teleport across the multiverse fighting the ultimate threat, and meet new races and allies!
  • Clever Mix of Mechanics: A seamless combination of levels focusing on strategic shooting and real-time puzzles will make you question what you know about shoot'em ups.
  • 2 games on your screen: Dimension drive is a unique shoot'em up where you're fighting two battle fields at once.
  • 4 difficulty modes: Normal, Hard, Extreme and WTF! Offer different challenges for different play styles. Play with shields in Normal, or go to the old-school route with one hit kills in Hard and Extreme. If you are up for the challenge try WTF! and try your luck at beating the game with one single hit.
  • Single player and local co-op: Play solo or enjoy our unique take on 2 player mode: total cooperative where both players share everything down to their lives, play as a team or die.
  • Comicbook art style: Video game meets comic. Experience the story of Jack through the motion comics and awe at the colour rich in-game comic art style. Who said space was black?
  • Energy management: The Manticore is powered by the Dimension Drive energy. Carefully strategize and decide when and where are the best places to teleport.
  • Advanced scoring system: Obtain the best score in the leaderboards.
  • Teleportation! (We said that already, didn't we?)
