Overall a good standard hidden object point and click, nothing groundbreaking here. I liked the fact it was set in Japan, the story was reminiscent of Agatha Cristie stuff.

Worth getting on sale/bundle if you are a point and click fan, good for a break from intense games.

Prepare to listen to the same short sleuthing themesong on repeat for two hours with criminally minimal deviation. Besides that, it does its job as a hidden object game but it's not a huge stand-out. Buy it cheap as a casual time sink/chillax tool.

This game is all about the HO. Pure Hidden Object goodness. It's pretty much just many hidden object scenes tied together with an interesting mystery story. There are a few puzzles here and there and a few times you need to use inventory items on a specific spot. But, as I said, mostly it's search search search for those items. And many of the items are cleverly hidden. Add in some nice music and Steam achievements and you have a fun little game if you're an HO fan.

This game is mostly just a series of HO scenes with cutscenes and very few puzzles inbetween. There's absolutely no need for exploration and there are just a handful of cases where one has to use an item from the inventory to progress forward. As I said, 95% of the game is HO scenes. The graphics are beautiful, the HO scenes are not overly junkpile-ish, they are actually enjoyable as far as HO scenes can go. The music is okay too, one of the songs is quite good, the other one that I remember is somewhat annoying.

Warning for cultural appropriation: the game has a white protagonist, the story is set in Japan and seems to use the setting just as a decoration. One of the characters has a quite racist portrayal with his "comical" lack of English skills.

I'm not strongly recommending this game, just as a "meh okay".

EDIT: The Kiloclick achievement, which should trigger when 1000 hidden objects are found doesn't work for me, I completed the game 3 times which contained 3 x 39 scenes x 12 items = 1404 hidden objects, but the achievement still didn't work.

Found this game on Steam by "accident", added it to my wish list and then bought it during the recent Steam summer sale and since im very interested in "all things" japanese and like puzzle/detective games... I thought why not try it out. I did not have any big expectations but I had a good feeling about the game before I bought it and it turned out to be well spent money for me since I didn't pay much for it and I really enjoyed it.

It's a casual and relaxing hidden-object/puzzle/detective game where you play as a woman who is investigating her husbands death in 1900th century Japan. The rest you can figure out yourself if you buy the game.

The music was pretty nice. Would've been cool with some more stages in the game.

I would like to see more of these kind of games from SQUARE ENIX. Imagine if they did a game like this one but in modern time. Let's say in modern day Tokyo for example or maybe even future Tokyo and that it was all made in beautiful anime, just like an anime show. If it was a point and click game I guess that would be even cooler... hell I'd even want both. Anyways time to stop dreaming.

Im glad I bought and played this game. Not everyone will like this game but it's just a matter of personal taste. Was a nice little experience.

Oooooh, boy. Normally I love these hidden object games and am happy to suspend my disbelief for the genre's usual missteps (like cartoonishly large objects that defy the law of gravity, random anachronisms, lackluster characterization, and the whole "I've found the crucial piece of evidence I needed to solve my husband's murder, but first I need to find three more butterflies and an artichoke!" thing). But the story here is dull, the puzzles in between are easy but tedious and repetitive (time for a matching game! time for a slightly different matching game! hey, let's do that first matching game again!), and some of the Japanese characters are so stereotypical they make Mickey Rooney's character in Breakfast at Tiffany's look like a nuanced, sensitive performance.

Other issues: a hint meter that's really slow to recharge (which normally wouldn't be an issue for me but some of the artwork is so bad you literally can't distinguish one blob from another blob), a repetitive soundtrack, and the occasional need to click an object in exactly the right spot (which is annoying if you're trying for the achievements involving precision). Basically, this is a really lazily- and poorly-assembled game in almost every way. I spent around $1.25 on it and that was still way too much.

Not a bad little game for the casual user. easy interactions and puzzles, lots of pretty scenes to do the hidden object searches in. The hints make it almost too easy, but if you just want a fun little game to pass the time this works. It comes with a "violence" warning, because it deals with murder/suicide/death etc, but I think only -really- young kids would be bothered.

It's a fun murder mystery, point-and-click puzzle game. I've always liked word searches and hidden object puzzles and this is just one big, beautifully illustrated hidden object puzzle; with some other types of puzzles as well. Plus you have the story of trying to solve your husband's murder even though the police ruled it suicide. I'm not so sure the "Stirring, Japanese-themed soundtrack " is an accurate portrayal because it doesn't really make me think Japanese but it's still pretty nice music. I've been enjoying the game quite a bit since buying it last night so of course I recommend it. I even just uploaded a gameplay video to Youtube because I know that sometimes before making a purchase, I want to either demo the game (as I did for this one last year) or see a video of it and I'm sure others do, too.

It's actually pretty challenging for a hidden item game, and has a decent storyline to go with it. Unfortunately, there isn't a ton of replayability once you've beaten it once, other than for getting any achievements you might have missed the first playthrough. Overall, though, it's nice if you're looking for a casual time-killer.

I bought this for my Mother who loves hidden object games and she absolutely loved it. Nothing is timed she was able to enjoy the images and the music. Man, the music is amazing.
It is one of the better hidden object games I've seen while looking for them. Highliy recommend it.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking. "Isn't this a girls game?" Well... Yeah, it kinda is, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. The game has a sweet little story where you play the wife of an employee at the US embassy in Japan, and while it's nothing out of the ordinary, I still found it to be very cute - and with very well-drawn characters.

The game itself is one of those find-hidden-items-on-the-screen games and is controlled using only the mouse. While it does have some extremely well-hidden items, most of the time the game plays nice, and I found that I didn't have to use the hint-button that much. Also, the feeling of accomplishment when I, after having stared intensely at my screen for 10 minutes, FINALLY found the friggin' bird I was looking for, was indescribable.
Another thing that helps this game is the fact that you revisit most of the locations several times - and what items you have to find are randomized, which makes having a good memory an important feat as well.

A breath of fresh air from the last hidden object game I reviewed, Season of Mystery: The Cherry Blossom Murders is a fairly decent, and lovely hidden object game! You play as Irene Pemberton, who moves to Japan with her beloved husband, Richard Pemberton, to enjoy the calm atmosphere of the land of the rising sun. However, tradgedy strikes when her husband is found dead in his office. Police are quick to rule it as a suicide, leaving it up to you to find out who killed Richard, and why.

The storyline is quite good, and paced very well! A murder mystery, plenty of characters, and settings help to keep things fresh and interesting. Clearing rooms and puzzles is rewarded with more story, as well as character interacitons to keep the driving force going, and there is even a skip button for those who are not interested in the storyline. Interactions between characters is very good, and the characters have different personalities and views: Which may not sound like much, but I've seen some hidden object games with horribly bland characters that you wouldn't be able to differenciate between them if their names weren't listed.

The art? Lovely, absolutely lovely. It's easy to tell that love and work was put in to the different characters, to make them look unique and ensure that they don't 'blend together'. Yet another issue I've seen in some hidden object games, and even in other genres! So it's quite a lovely sight to see. It certainly made it more enjoyable to observe interactions between characters, something that would be a lot less fun if characters looked too similar to one another. Takes a lot of the individuality out when characters look like they were made from the same cookie cutter.

The scenery is yet another thing that was gorgeous to look at. Scenes were well crafted, and dare I say challenging with some, to find the objects scattered across them. I've seen hidden object games where the items just absolutely choaked the scene, making it hard to tell what was underneath even! However, here? You'll have issues finding some items, with how they blend in! Which does increase the difficulty, but certainly makes the items take a little less away from the scenery. Looks a lot less like someone took all their belongings and threw them around the area.

The music is pretty good too, nothing overly memorable, but it is nice, albeit repetitive at times. It doesn't sound so much like Japanese music, so much as mystery music. Had they made more of a effort by adding some music with a violin and/or flute, it would set the mood a bit more, as well as provide some extra soundtrack to cycle through. But, if all else fails, there's always muting it and then playing Zen music in the background for that oriental feel.

The objects hidden amongst the scenes is actually well done! And, thankfully, they are randomized too! Sometimes the game'll give you a pretty easy deal, with pretty obvious placements. But if you get that, then expect tough-as-nails placements up ahead, making getting the "No hint" achievement more difficult to get. Playing cards are THE worst offender for "Most annoying to find" in this game... Or any game for that matter. The game does like to also mix up what you look for too, so if you're looking for three apples... Then expect maybe two apples, and the word 'apples'. Thankfully, there's silhouettes for the items when you click on their names on the list. Making it nice for beginners who could make use of it, or decent for those looking for a challenge, who can decide not to use it.

Minigames are also a blast. They certainly have a variety, making it fun to solve them! But there's always the skip button for those who can't solve them, however that forfeits getting certain achievements. There's one puzzle that repeats itself twice, but it's not that big a deal. Just a memory game where you flip the cards/shells and try to match them. The other puzzles are plentiful, and spice things up.

The fact that this game had achievements made me jump for joy. I absolutely love getting achievements in game, and this one was no exception. I got all the achievements in about two playthroughs, of which I would complain that it was a bit too easy... But, that's probably just because I've played these kind of games a lot, and am pretty dang good at them. It really depends on the person who plays, it'll provide a tough challenge for beginners. However with veterans to these kind of games, they'll probably breeze through it. So your mileage may vary there.

I was quite a bit surprised to see that Square Enix made this game, as they're more for making RPGs. However, it's not a unwelcome change, it's nice to see that they stepped out of their comfort zone. Though, I will say one thing: They didn't take a very professional approach to it. This is the one bad thing I have to say about this game really, is the item textures. Some of them kinda have a white edging on a few, making them obviously different from the background. That one problem aside, it's all good.

I definitely suggest this game, for new people trying out hidden objects. And for hidden object addicts, looking for a new hidden object game to clear through. And for 5 dollars? I'd say it's worth it. About as expensive as maybe a gallon of milk or so, depending on where you live.

Hidden Object game with a handful of easy mini puzzles thrown in, like assembling a torn note. The scenes are definately prettier than most HO games. Female central character. Very enjoyable. Highly recommended!

A Hidden Object game that tries to be a detective game. The story was fine for a game like this and it had a few twists, but this is no Agatha Christie whodunnit.
While the HO game and mini games were OK, the biggest let down is, there is no endless mode after finishing the story.

Season of Mystery: The Cherry Blossom Murders is a find the hidden object game where you solve the murder of your spouse in 20th century Japan. The music is competent but repetitive and the artwork stills are quite attractive. The gameplay itself is challenging because the objects can be especially well hidden on each game field. Fortunately the matches are not timed and a rechargeable hint allows you to find those sneaky objects that defy being located. The cutscenes and storyline are rather blah, especially considering the much more interesting cutscenes in The Otherside by Namco Games. That said however, Season of Mystery: The Cherry Blossom Murders offers a fun diversion for the casual gamer who likes to take their time with challenges.

First things first, this is a hidden object game, so you should be aware of whether or not that's your thing before you consider purchasing.

Unfortunately, even for someone who enjoys hidden object games, I can't really recommend this one.

Positives
+Interesting setting in 19th century Japan
+Music is really nice
+The backgrounds are very pretty and make good use of colour
+No voice acting, so I don't have to listen to some painfully dire actor hamming it up

Negatives
+Hilariously terrible cutscenes and character sprites
+You're brought back to the same scenes again and again, often looking for the same things over and over again. This is a huge cop-out in a game that consists only of these hidden object scenes, and that only lasts a couple of hours anyway
+The mini-games are ridiculously easy

Buy it on sale for a quick mind-numbing distraction or if you want the Steam achievements, but I can't recommend paying full price for it.
