BJtH 1 year anniversary!

Hello, dear fans!
It's now exactly one year since Big Journey to Home was released, which was on the 20th August of 2015. The development first stated on 5th August of the long forgotten year 2010. During all these years, both us and you have done a lot. Thanks for everyone for supporting us and buying the game!
Those who haven't gotten the game yet are welcome to join the celebration with a 66% discount until August 30th! Hurry up! There's a surprise waiting for you after the sale as well.
The game hasn't received any updates recently. Unfortunately, due to the lack of engine updates, we're still unable to fix the OS X version bugs. We will likely release our last update soon, which will disable the mandatory linking of BJtH-Online and Steam accounts.
Thank you again for your support.
Yours, Silver Sword!

About This Game

Welcome to the world of adventures!

You play as Jake, a simple guy who accidently got into trouble. What will happen to him, how he will behave, will he get home or not, all that depends on you. You will encounter a variety of creatures along your way, from roaches to huge scorpions, lizards and even small hamsters! Apart from living beings, you will see a variety of complex mechanisms. To overcome snow, forests, deserts and underground areas, you will require a good weapon. Though you already have that - a well-sharpened blade that will slice (almost) every monster.
The game requires you to plan every step, so that monsters won't have you for dinner. However, if you stand still, the monsters won't touch you. The "Hardcore" mode won't let you sleep, though, it will require your full attention.
If a friend of yours keeps bothering you, you can play a separate story about Jake and his brother together. You can walk through the same far-away places and see the same monsters, however, they will behave differently. If your friend gets lost, you will be able to show him where to go using the built-in chat and marker.
The game has an achievement system - try to unlock them all! If you want to stay in this unusual world, you can extend the fun with usermade levels that people just like you can build. Thanks to the convenient level download system, you won't be leaving the game for a long time.

A brief history of development

The game was developed for the duration of five years, gradually improving. Different people contributed to the game and the development team changed over time. Some people worked on level design, some others did art. As of right now, the game has only one developer left: Vyacheslav "Silver Sword" Mironov. I have started this game and I have led it to its release.

Key features of the game

  • Learn how Jake ended up in the forest and help him back home
  • Travel through dark forests, undergrounds, cold ice caves and hot deserts!
  • Solve unique puzzles destroying wile monsters along your way!
  • Play co-op with a friend! Learn how fun it is to solve puzzles together.
  • Prove that you are the best! Leaderboards, achievements and a special difficulty setting will help you in this.

First screen after sarted:

"... To use the online functionality of the game, you need to sign up for BJtH-Online! ... You may continue playing without signing up, but online functionality and Steam functions will be disabled until you sign in. ..."

Insta-negative. Bye. (The game looks crap anyway.)

I can live with bad graphics and nonexistant animations but the dialogue reads like it was written in another language and translated poorly to english.

I can remember playing roguelikes 15 years ago that were better than this and those were for free on newgrounds. Its still fun but there are better examples of the genre out there.

Oh dear... so you make a turn based game and you limit attacks (you literally need to pick them up...) to make it more difficult (or more like a puzzle game). This kills pretty much all the 'strategy' and 'RPG' parts and leaves just a not very well presented puzzle something. Guess it might be interesting for people who like to count movement points, but if you are looking for a strategy RPG you should just stay away.

I'm gonna be really frank about this game. I did not enjoy it much at all.

TLDR: This game has potential and a good concept, just really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and annoying execution and makes you rage not because you can't figure out the puzzle, but because of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mechanical issues.

Even though I did not enjoy this game, there are still good parts of the game. First of all, the concept is actually really cool and refreshing. I actually enjoyed that aspect of the game being a puzzle and turned based as well as luring enemies into traps/rivers. Also the soundtrack is pretty nice, even if there really is only two.

Now time to criticize this game. Let's start with the controls. The movement keys are 12346789 and 5 is wait. I understand that you need to mvoe diagonally in this game, but holy ♥♥♥♥ing hell those are honestly the most annoying ♥♥♥ keys, especially for laptop players without a numpad. I was fortunate enough to have a laptop with a numpad, but those keys still ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me off so much. What is worse is that I could not find for my life a "customize" your keys option.

Aside from the keys, which I actually did somewhat start to get used to but still found awkward, the game is really punishing. Messing up at the end of the level brings you all the way back to the beginning of the level and some levels you need to do a lot of movement and thinking along the way. Furthermore, if you mess up one part of the level earlier on, you may actually not be able to complete a future one. If I hadn't saved up one of my attacks, I would have not been able to pass the next level. This punishment combined with awkward keys ♥♥♥♥ed me over so many times. I'd accidently hit 4 instead of 7 or 1 instead of 4 and fall into a river at the end of the level and have to restart. I can understand the game being difficult and I appreciate myself some difficult puzzles that took me a while to figure out, but this kind of difficulty due the user playability being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is just not good.

Another really annoying part is that sometimes the movement of the enemies seems rather WTF. So the roach couldn't move diagonally at first, then all of a sudden half the times it can move diagonally and half the times it doesn't. How is the player supposed to kite the roach correctly without knowing when it will move diagonally. I'm sure there is some formula for its movement that I just didn't figure out, but devs please, at least give us a defined movement forumla that is more easily tangible. I was able to figure out your hard puzzles but never figured out the movement formula.

Lastly, the game does not have a great save feature. There is only one save and load, else you start a new game. So if you ♥♥♥♥ed up your levels for good halfway through... well lets just say that you gotta start over. Also when you go to the menu, the game lags for a good 5 seconds and you can't do anything. Speaking about not doing anything, the achievements are crazy hard to get as well. I was not even able to get a single achievement in all the time I put in and when I looked at the global stats, only like 3% of people were able to get one fo the achievements and that was the most that people have achieved.

With all the negatives put together, this game really is lacking in refinement. Should the devs refine the user experience, then this game could be really really fun. But as of right now, I really cannot recommend this game since it is just too lacking in polishing.

Rating: 6.2/10
Recommend: Don't buy this until it is more refined OR for under $0.50 since there are trading cards

A fun little game full of turn-based puzzle solving. A bit rough around the edges, but still enjoyable.

Introduction
Big journey to Home is a new and interesting game from the light sword team, where we control jake through mazes and more mazes to go.
some mazes has tricky puzzles that one movement can make you go to start if it's wrong.we have a sword, and we need to pickup some powerups
to get it work, when you get to attack a monster you need to hold one button to do the attack and another to choose the direction of attack,we also have a online community to the game with achievements and leaderbords.

Positive Points
+Online community
+Very challenging gameplay, making you plan every step you made
+Hardcore Mode
+Trading Cards and Steam Achievements
+Various levels to go

Negative Points
-For me,the only thing that lacked here,is the controls,it's kind of difficult if you don't have a gamepad, but if you manage to memorize them, you can advance very well on here.

Overall
Big Journey to home is a amazing game that needs to be recognized. it merges challenging and strategy gameplay, some online features and much more things. And it's really cheap for it's content. So grab it now!

Final Rating: 9.5/10

Fun for a bit but gets pretty repetitive pretty fast. It's an interesting idea but I'd rather play a team-based turn based tactical game like xcom or final fantasy tactics.

Would have probably enjoyed it more if there were more tactical options or more people on my team. Graphics and sound are ok and I did have some fun but $10 is a bit much. On sale for $8 is a bit more reasonable but still overpriced in my opinion.

But I've received as a 'free' DLC the game sountrack (thanks a Steam error ^^)!

Still listening some tunes. The main soundtrack theme is adorable and got stuck in my mind! :)
