Great Game!
Awesome Game!

Quality 8.6/10Decent quality
Performance9/10No crash or lags, but needs a good PC to run well on high settings
Utility 8/103rd party account; rare launcher issues (requires reinstalling the game)
Controls 9/10Good controls especially compared to other MOBAs; wasd movement instead of mouse-only;has pad support, even though it's not mentioned in the store
Gameplay 8.5/10A good MOBA with 3rd person view and WASD-movement
Challenge 9/10Great, especially when playing in ranked mode; tons of gods, items and skills to be learned/mastered - gods (playable characters) are well balanced
Content 9/10Different game modes and constantly updated with new content; lots of achievements to be earned - pretty active developer team
Diversity 8/10No match is the same and there's a variety of quite different game modes, ranging from 1vs1 to 5vs5; latest patch introducing a coop mode
Immersion8/10Demanding gameplay and a cool lore: characters are gods from different pantheons (greek, chinese etc.) - matches last from 15-45 minutes
Design 8.0/10Really nice designed F2P game
Visuals 8/10Looks great; has many alternative skins for the gods and good looking maps
Sound7/10Some nice custom voice-overs (purchasable), SFX OK, Music repetitive
Texts 9/10Many tutorials; background information about the gods; decent localization
Mapping 8/10Different, polished maps varying with game mode; classic MOBA maps: lanes with towers, jungle, bases - and cool spin-offs like siege engine maps
Interface 8/10Menus & HUD nice; complex command system (has chat & voice-chat, too)

Tested with:
1920x1080; Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit
AMD FX-8350, 8 x 4.03 GHz
Nvidia GTX 970 (4GB)
16GB DDR3 RAM; Samsung SSD

So, I started playing Smite when my cousin and I had been searching for co-op games to play at night after work and he discovered Smite shortly after it was released on Steam. We got in, were totally in awe of the variety and depth of each character... so we immediately bought the God Pack for $30 and began learning which were the most fun for our play styles. I quickly became fond of Mages & Hunters, while he went Guardians to be tanky.

I've logged so many hours since then, way more than any other game I've tried in the last 10 months or so. I have an HTC Vive, and until it gets deep games like this that have a long learning curve, I'll probably continue to play Smite when I have a couple hours free.

I'd never played a MOBA prior to Smite for more than a single sitting... this game made me appreciate the game type and skill-shot based game play. I would never have played this if it were tab targeting.

Smite is addictive and fun... and this is coming from someone that gets bored of games quickly (almost 400 games in my Steam library as of this review).

Get it, it's free. There's so much depth between the various Characters and gear, that you might end up absolutely sinking more time than you expected in just learning the game mechanics and nuances.

Highly recommended!

I have the worst love/hate relationship with this game. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid game, and it's fun for sure, but there's so much wrong with it that I really wish there was a way to give a "maybe" for recommendations.

First of all, there are things I wish to talk about that make it a very hit and miss game.
Foremost of those is the balancing. Unless the god kit is completely incohesive, buggy, or for a lack of other terms, useless (AKA other gods do everything they do better), then the god is playable in game. Certain ones might be more difficult (most notably those with a lack of mobility), but that is made up for with a lot more damage, see anubis for reference. This WOULD be fantastic design if only everything didn't have a ludicrous amount of damage. If this game didn't create an atmosphere of a snowball-centric MOBA, this wouldn't necessarily be as bad; especially if the snowball didn't feel so disproportionate to the pace of the game. This is particularly frustrating to me, because I know everything does a crap-ton of damage, so when I'm behind, I try to get a pick on someone just to realize that my insane amount of damage didn't mean anything because they could just get theirs off, and because they're fed, their crap-ton was bigger than my crap-ton, thus, i die first. (I may not be good at this game. like, at all.)

The community is downright garbage. Maybe it's changed since I last played, but I'm willing to bet the next time I ever feel like playing I will instantly get a game with 2 plus members on my team badmouthing me for feeding (it's been months, guys, seriously, I wouldn't be doing this intentionally). And while I love the HUD in the game, and basically everything feels good, especially when you're ahead (Hey, look, I do that too sometimes), it's difficult to understand just how toxic the community can be. I mean seriously, you're playing a beautiful game, with fun, unique characters, you're not gonna give anyone the benefit of the doubt to say their PC isn't as good, they're not quite used to their god (Believe me, god mastery means NOTHING until at least level 4 or 5.) or even say that their internet is crappy. Nope, you're going straight to say that the player is utter garbage and should kill themself for playing a free-to-play video game on a casual game mode poorly compared to the standards you're setting for every single individual who ever plays on your team. But, nope, it happens. Consistently. And especially because it's a F2P game, people can just come back with a new account, farm up for the gods they want, and boom, they're back. Hooray. Banning people doesn't really do anything in this kind of scenario, unless it's a full on IP ban, and even then there's a way around it. At least there's an ignore feature that kind of works.

So Why are you even recommending the game?
Well, because it's fun. I'm not going to deny it, I find myself looking back at the days I played a ton of smite and thinking "Man, i had some really good times." I will remember very clearly that time I played The original Ao Kuang (Now known as Kukulkan) and was able to defend the base 1v5 with constant tornadoes and even using my ultimate to clear the minion waves. There are plenty of different game modes to play, so even if the average MOBA style isn't for you, there's arena, siege, assault, joust, and you can even create customs of any game mode if you're somehow sociable enough to have more than 3 people in a single game AND want to play it out. Or you can 1v1, too. Because that's also a thing.

If you can get over a toxic community, there's a high chance you might really enjoy it and love your time. If you don't think you can, I recommend maybe trying it out before completely shutting it down, but if you find you can't play it, nobody's forcing you to.

Great balanced and empowering gameplay. Great graphics with very high detail on gods and world. Loads of playable characters and skins. Ultimate god pack that unlocks all and future gods if you don't feel like grinding. Bad things about this game are random game disconnects, game crashing that happens from time to time. Also one really annoying bug where game doesn't let you accept and join a game, resulting in a deserter ban and losing all goodwill, and that results in you losing all the bonuses after a round. And the fact that they make a good skin for a popular character and put it in a chest with around 350 skins. And to open one chest to get a skin you have to pay a bit more than three euros. I have 120/350 so that's alot for me. It's a fun game to play with friends, but no need to get in too deep. You will find maybe even more bugs but they usually patch it up in the next patch, so even with all these cons, the game still deserves a recommend because of the gameplay and the fun it carries. Recommended.

After 1813h playing I still hate mobas.

Cons

  • Servers sucks
  • Community sucks
  • After every patch you can see huges bugs, they're just like another teammate, you eventually learn to love them.

Pros

  • All the gods are broken here (That's Balanced)
  • 3rd person MOBA
  • Nice characters concept based on mythologies
  • Different game modes

Warning: Addictive as almost all the mobas.
Server REALLY sucks.

DO SOMETHING WITH THE SERVERS!

Ya you need a decent PC to play on good settings but once you start playing time will just become a minor annoyance to the hours you will spend playing. I have been playing SMITE before it even came out on steam and I have still continued to play it. Though I kinda wish Hi rez could just make a balanced god for once (says this after dying to 1 tap loki, 1 tap merc, Scylla's ult, Ao kuang ult ect..)

Plus you learn a bit about some mythology

It's a fun game if you have good teammates, a VERY boring game if you have bad teammates and EXTREMELY fun when you don't care about the outcome of the match. If you're looking for a MOBA which doesn't require as much learning as DOTA, then play this.

Also don't tell anyone that you play this game. They'll laugh at you. Trust me.
