“Now this is just pure, unadulterated awesome.”

“One of the best games I saw this week at Valve’s demo of the HTC Vive virtual reality headset was Final Approach from developer Phaser Lock Interactive”

“Final Approach was our favourite title at the event.”

About This Game

Take control of the skies like never before in a full Virtual Reality world! Airplanes on fire, commuter aircraft low on fuel, mid-air collisions, emergency rescues, and military exercises all need your immediate attention. Manage your aircraft and airports in "God Mode" as you tower over large metropolitan airports, tropical islands, and towering cities. Path your aircraft to safety, avoiding air traffic, fierce thunderstorms, and perilous landscapes. Get those planes refueled, repaired, and back in the air as fast as possible. You will need nerves of steel as you zoom down to "Toy Mode" to fight raging aircraft fires, man the guns and missiles of the battleship, and the worst task of all...Luggage Sorting. Don't waste any time, the skies are full of emergencies that only you can manage. Did we mention the Alien Invasion? Welcome to Final Approach!

Room-Scale VR
Never before has a game used the full capability and power of Room Scale Virtual Space! The sky is full of aircraft of every shape and size, from F16s to Blackhawk Helicopters, WW2 Spitfires and barnstorming bi-wings. We even threw in predator drones and stealth bombers for free! Enjoy over 6 hours of gameplay, mini-games, and free-play modes!

Final Approach gives you complete control of the skies around the airports and islands as you tower over the world in what we call "God Mode". Using the HTC Vive or Oculus Touch motion controllers, reach up to grab an aircraft, draw a path from one side of the room to the other, and get the aircraft to their designated runway. In addition to managing the aircraft, the player can use zoom points throughout the game to get up close and personal with various aspects of the terrain. Scale down to real world size, where you can fight roaring fires with water hoses, interact with the guns and missile launchers of battleships, sort luggage, scare off seagulls with air horns and solve puzzles to make your way through the game.

Game play includes:
• Flying military jets and helicopters in combat and rescue missions while navigating the decks of aircraft carriers and battleships. Take control of the boat guns and missiles as you fight off enemy combatants
• Take control of a city airport, managing large commercial and private aircraft. Pilot them down to their appropriate gates while you navigate helicopters and ground crew on various tasks.
• Fly your rescue and support helicopters around skyscrapers and large office buildings in a towering metropolis as you navigate your way through busy streets to clear traffic jams, fight towering infernos, and rescue stranded citizens.
• Aircraft include F-16 and F18 fighter jets, DCA-717s, A320 Commercial Jets, Messerschmitts, Spitfires, B2 Stealth Bombers, B17s, Predator Drones, Heli UH 60 Gunners, HH65C Dauphins, Sikorsky Ch-54s, HH-60 Blackhawks and so much more!

Story Mode:
Follow our heroic pilots as they work their way through dangerous missions and hazardous terrain. But they can't do it alone, they need your help. Keep them safe while they help you decipher puzzles and challenges that could lead you to the truth and knowledge of how to stop what could be the world's greatest threat yet, ALIENS!

This is one of the best HTC Vive games with perfect used of tracked motion controllers and room-scale. Everything was thinked for the Vive.

- Very great music
- Very good use of motion controllers
- Very good use of room-scale
- You can move your head to see things closer
- Free new game mode (Pilot Approach)
- Very good game design
- Good variety
- First person view for other tasks (like mini-game)

- You can finish the game (Final Approach) within 3-5 hours
- The number of maps is limited (but change between challenges)

Polished & absorbing (at higher levels) table top game. Great graphics and runs smoothly. Only quibble is the mini-games take me out of my air traffic godhood without being as engaging; but "being on the ground" is interesting for sense of scale.

Final Approach is a fun air traffic control game that I can see a lot of people enjoying. It really works to the strengths of current VR tech, especially as a room-scale title.

The presentation is great: you're thrown into a miniature world with aircraft buzzing around your head. It makes me feel like a kid again, playing with some sort of magical airplane playset from the future!

The controls are intuitive, and the gameplay has more depth to it than it might seem at first. It's one of the few current VR titles that I'm enjoying for the gameplay, as well as the novelty factor.

There's a really nice feature to scale the play-area independently of the SteamVR room settings, which is a GREAT touch. This means that you can shrink the world to make it easier to move around & lift or drop the floor height so you can play comfortably.

There are a couple of minor grumbles: the voice-overs get annoyingly repetitive very quickly, as do the break-out interactions like putting out fires & scaring away birds.

Otherwise, it's a fantastic game into which the developers have clearly put a lot of love & attention. I would recommend this without hesitation to anyone who wants a good casual game that shows off VR in a subtle but well-done way.

This was the first game I purchased for my Vive. I bought it nearly 2 months ago. When will my free copy of the "Pilot Edition" show up? The game is truly awesome and a blast to play, easily worth the money. And its basically 2 games for 1 price! If you own a Vive then you must have this in your collection.

A very good, challenging game that provides an amount of content and gameplay worthy of the price. For my full thoughts on the game, you can watch my video review here.

Please note that my playtime is not accurately represented here, as this isn't my primary account used for gaming.

A few other things I've noted since making the review:

  • The tutorial does mention that planes can't take too sharp turns, so not to draw sharp paths. Perhaps a warning (at the very least, in the tutorial) displaying when you draw a path too sharp would help people get an idea of what kind of turning angles they can pull off.
  • Free Mode stages don't unlock until you play in each environment for the first time, but challenge levels are all unlocked after playing the tutorial only. Not sure if this was intended or not.
  • Scaring off gulls becomes too easy, as they always appear in the same exact locations. It only takes a few times until you know exactly where you need to aim your air horn, making the task take easily under 2 seconds. This kind of makes it not much of a task at all, certainly no challenge. Perhaps make the seagulls spawn in random locations, or maybe in different group sizes. (Small group of 3 birds fly away quickly, large groups of 7-10 gulls take some more noise to scare off.)

This game is quite fun, but you have to spend a while adjusting the Vive's headset to be able to reliably look down. I really wish that this game would do what Tabletop Simulator did, which is include a height adjustment option. Even with that though, the game is quite entertaining, and definitely one of the better games on the market for VR right now.

edit: A developer has commented that apparently there IS a height adjustment! This is great because not only is my issue resolved, but they care enough about thier product to monitor the Discussions. All this serves as even more of a reason to get this game, if only to support good customer service, lol

Vive owner of 2 weeks -> This is the most complete game in my library , well polished and executed.

It's a time management / sim-airport type of game , with lots of good variation and mini games.

Challenges are a welcome new addition. The balance of difficulty is really good though, I like being stuck trying to get perfect scores and level 5 is a beast! -#3 in leaderboards on time taken, at time of writing :)

Like any VR title it's hard to do it justice as its a lot about how it feels rather than how it looks on a demo video. The controls , aspect ratio and game mechanics are so well polished its just a joy to play.

for me, think Airport Mania crossed with pilotwings or something (its nothing like pilotwings! but it has a similar feel for me).

I have tried most of the paid Vive games , this one truly is the most polished. Who would have thought landing airplanes could be this much fun , but it is ! It also nice to be immersed in an engaging environment where I don't need to kill anything.

This is one of the most polished and finished games you can buy for a Vive. Lots of fun, challenging, and the detail is amazing. I love being able to lean into the map and get right close to the little people, or being surprised by a small plane flying past my face. Good variety in gameplay, and it gets challenging on later levels. It is one game i will be coming back to again and again.

Airline pilot here and this game really touches my inner child. It reminds me as a kid the trainset I had... how I would tweak it and setup the little towns and drive the train around... Flash forward to today and that piece of plywood with green felt has been replaced... gone are those trains (but waiting for that game too) replace are those trains with ... giggity giggity - airplanes.

SHORT OF IT - as of June 2016 this is one of the best polished games on the HTC VIVE that I have come across. GET IT.

Pros: that god like feeling of leaning over the world and then looking down for a better / closer view.
some cool side games (baggage sorter - props to the B6 rampers)

Cons - clearing the birds gets old for me, when I got the the helo level the flashing got very painful and I had to quit - game as running great until that level.

Sum - get it.

Wish list - wish there was actual taxi ways that the aircraft would follow. wish wind played a role with wind shifts. maybe have fog in days where you have to hold up a radar display to track aircraft and send them to holding fixes. ... many more ides but want to do some vring before bed ;)

I love this game! I enjoyed playing this on my phone in 2D years ago so it was an automatic buy for me when I saw that it was available in VR. This game does not disappoint. The thing I love about it is that it is 100% scalable. I can place the Airport in my entire 16x18 living room or I can place it in my lap while I sit at my desk. Room scale is awesome... running from one side of the airfield to the next in an attempt to land a burning airplane, rescue downed pilots, shoot aliens, put out fires, and dropping bombs all in a timely manner.
If you liked this game in 2D then it’s a must buy in VR. If you have never played it before then try it!!!

Too many tedious tasks. It is fun at first but very quickly gets stale doing the same thing over and over.
Sure there's some variety, but they get stale too. The price is also way too high for this game.
If it was under $15 might be worth it. Otherwise, not much fun beyond the initial moments.

Be a giant flight controller managing his airport from his birdeye view giving flight paths with his giant hand to the small toy like planes and personnel, completing different tasks and minigames.

I have a lot of good things to say about this game.
The storyline of the game is really good and well made with a lot of different tasks to complete, as one of the few VR games i have played, this one actually have a story mode that seems to go beyond just 1-2 hours of gameplay and this is for me a very good thing and something i hope to see more off in the future of VR (and looking on upcoming titles it will happen)
There is different airports and urban settings you can play in all with their own sets of missions and minigames.

Controls are intuitive.
prize contra gameplay, i would say this is worth it.
