We've tweaked the criteria for obtaining the special Halloween event trophy announced with the update. Previously, you had to acquire a 3-star rating on both Halloween missions to earn the Pumpkin Trophy. We've changed this to earning at least a 1-star rating to encourage more pilots to enjoy the event! You can still only earn it until 10AM PST November 1st, though, so get to pumpkin popping and trick-or-treating!

Nothing is too scary for a pilot, not even spooky skeletons or ghosts... right? Well, it’s time to put your skills to the test in our latest Cargo Drop! It’s almost time for Halloween, and we’ve prepared a goodie bag of updates for Final Approach that will be sure to satisfy your VR sweet tooth.

As always, we’ve been taking in a lot of the feedback received in the past few months to put together this month’s update. We read every post in the forums, every comment on Reddit, and do our best to incorporate your feedback into updates that will keep you coming back to the world we created for you, the fans!

On to the Halloween Extravaganza! We’ve added some big features and content updates to the game, including Halloween-themed levels in Challenge Mode and Free-Play! We’ve also unlocked the first 7 levels, so new players can explore the different types of levels and see more of what the game has to offer.

Halloween Trophy Event

For those of you who have braved the story missions of Final Approach, you’ve already got some decorations for your desk in the hangar in the form of trophies. For our Halloween event, we’ll be awarding players a special pumpkin trophy for completing both of the Halloween Challenge missions with a “3 star” rating with at least one star during the month of October. You have until 10AM PST November 1 to get this special souvenir as a memento of your eerie adventures in Final Approach.

Well, what are you waiting for? Time to rev up your engines with Halloween cheer and ready for landing in some pumpkin-spiced, sugary and scary action!

Take control of the skies like never before in a full Virtual Reality world! Airplanes on fire, commuter aircraft low on fuel, mid-air collisions, emergency rescues, and military exercises all need your immediate attention. Manage your aircraft and airports in "God Mode" as you tower over large metropolitan airports, tropical islands, and towering cities. Path your aircraft to safety, avoiding air traffic, fierce thunderstorms, and perilous landscapes. Get those planes refueled, repaired, and back in the air as fast as possible. You will need nerves of steel as you zoom down to "Toy Mode" to fight raging aircraft fires, man the guns and missiles of the battleship, and the worst task of all...Luggage Sorting. Don't waste any time, the skies are full of emergencies that only you can manage. Did we mention the Alien Invasion? Welcome to Final Approach!

Room-Scale VR

Never before has a game used the full capability and power of Room Scale Virtual Space! The sky is full of aircraft of every shape and size, from F16s to Blackhawk Helicopters, WW2 Spitfires and barnstorming bi-wings. We even threw in predator drones and stealth bombers for free! Enjoy over 6 hours of gameplay, mini-games, and free-play modes!

Final Approach gives you complete control of the skies around the airports and islands as you tower over the world in what we call "God Mode". Using the HTC Vive or Oculus Touch motion controllers, reach up to grab an aircraft, draw a path from one side of the room to the other, and get the aircraft to their designated runway. In addition to managing the aircraft, the player can use zoom points throughout the game to get up close and personal with various aspects of the terrain. Scale down to real world size, where you can fight roaring fires with water hoses, interact with the guns and missile launchers of battleships, sort luggage, scare off seagulls with air horns and solve puzzles to make your way through the game.

  • Flying military jets and helicopters in combat and rescue missions while navigating the decks of aircraft carriers and battleships. Take control of the boat guns and missiles as you fight off enemy combatants
  • Take control of a city airport, managing large commercial and private aircraft. Pilot them down to their appropriate gates while you navigate helicopters and ground crew on various tasks.
  • Fly your rescue and support helicopters around skyscrapers and large office buildings in a towering metropolis as you navigate your way through busy streets to clear traffic jams, fight towering infernos, and rescue stranded citizens.
  • Aircraft include F-16 and F18 fighter jets, DCA-717s, A320 Commercial Jets, Messerschmitts, Spitfires, B2 Stealth Bombers, B17s, Predator Drones, Heli UH 60 Gunners, HH65C Dauphins, Sikorsky Ch-54s, HH-60 Blackhawks and so much more!

A really good VR Experience. You are air traffic control and also sometimes doing some tasks in First Person. The graphics is quite stunning. Buying this game also get you pilot edition. Worth to buy when it is on sale.

Let me first say that I very rarely write reviews for anything. So if you're reading this, know that I found this real important to say. When I first got an iPad one of the first games I bought was one of those air traffic control, direct the planes with your finger, and try not to crash them together type games. I played it for maybe 30 minutes then never touched it again. I found it too repetitive, not very challenging, and just boring. So naturally I was very skeptical about this game. Then it went on sale, and I figured what the hell.

I just got done playing for an hour and a half straight, and I only put it down because I have to go to bed :(. There have been very few games out on the Vive that I've had this much fun with. The 3D environments are very well detailed, the controls are very simple and smooth, and the mini games are AWESOME! In between landing planes, directing them to taxi and take off again, you occasionally have to scare birds off the runway, put our fires, or throw luggage. I was suprised how much that little addition really added to the gameplay!

I had a blast with it, and look forward to play it more! Well done devs!!!

One of the top 3 Vive games at the moment. The other 2 are great and all, but are taxing and you need to be in the mood to play it. This game isn't that. While at times it can get hectic, controlling planes, putting out fires, shooting things, etc.. for the most part, it is just a relaxing, enjoyable game.

Controlling planes from above, like a god, to then jump down and putting out fires, like a person on the ground, adds so much to this game. Sometimes, even though you are in the middle of a game, you just stop look around at the minature firemen putting our crashed plane wreckage fires and smile. Or maybe your shooting a UFO into pieces that is right above you.

Did I mention that jumping down onto the runway to scare off birds when a plane lands or takes off has caused many a person I demo this game to, to scream and jump? Anyway.. yes.. a really great game and one I'm very honored to have been able to enjoy and play. I highly recommended it.

I actually feel bad now about waiting to buy this for $20. This game is so much better than what I was expecting. The detail, my gosh, the detail. I was blown away by the opening screen, even. The menus are gorgeous and perfect for VR, the planes look amazing, and there is a surprising amount of variety in the gameplay.

This game is SO MUCH MORE than simply drawing flight routes for planes to land (a-la Air Control for mobile platform). That's what I was expecting, and it's there, but oh my, it's only a tiny part. This is a perfect example of a game that doesn't convey it's beauty from demo vids or pictures. Maybe consider releasing a short demo of the first mission? I bought this because it looked interesting, the dev seemed really nice from interviews before Vive release, and I really appreciated their communication about the initial sticker shock and subsequent price drop.

Had I known the game was this polished, with so much variety, I would not have cared about the aforementioned reasons for the purchase. This game is a blast, plain and simple. Can't wait to get out of work so I can get back to it!

Love planes? You'll probably really enjoy Final Approach. Me262 taxiing to the runway ready for take-off? Yes please

I spent $30 on what is effectively a VR mobile game.

Planes fly into your roomscale space and you have to draw a line to a landing pad and they follow the path. Occasionally a plane is on fire - you have to teleport to the ground and spray it. Sometimes birds show up on the ground. You onto the ground and scare them off. Then you tap on planes waiting to take off, then they take off.

That's the first level.

The second is an international airport where you land jumbo jets, draw lines to move them to get to terminals, repair planes, and airlift generators onto roofs and switch them on.

All in all it's just a whole lot of... not much. The ideas in the game feel VERY disjointed. It seems like the developers sat there and asked themselves "What can we do to make this more difficult? - Right! We can make cars drive around an international airport and crash into your planes unless you stop them!" For someone playing with air control, the game doesn't seem to respect the fact that the player is put into a position of care and basically just tries to ♥♥♥♥ up your efforts 'to make it harder.'

It's a mish mash of elements that artifically bulk up what is effectively a very easy 'draw a line and land some planes' game. People say it's one of the more beautiful games but I'd disagree. The UI feels asthetically disjointed, the controller models are disjointed, the scale feels very wrong and the level design doesn't feel credible in the slightest.

If you enjoy multitasking little mini games for long periods of time, then this game is for you. This game isn't personally rewarding and beats you to the ground with boring, simple tasks.

Final Approch is more than it seems on the first sight. First i thought it is one of those mobile games where you have to guide planes without crashing them and was pretty sure that i will get a refund after trying it. I was wrong.

This game has a lot to do and the missions are very varied. The graphics are very good and just fit the game and VR. It seems also like a very complete game and not like one of the many overpriced tech-demos. VR is very well integrated into the game it's not only fun to look at your airport but also to do the short mini missions in 1st person. When doing the mini missions the game doesn't stop and you can see all the things happening arround you. If you are in doubt, try it and get a refund if you don't like it.

I think this game deserves more attention.

Another example of great VR where the entire game works well within a small space.

The first time I was put down onto the runway to put out a fire, it felt more real than anything else I've played so far.

This game is quite fun, but you have to spend a while adjusting the Vive's headset to be able to reliably look down. I really wish that this game would do what Tabletop Simulator did, which is include a height adjustment option. Even with that though, the game is quite entertaining, and definitely one of the better games on the market for VR right now.

edit: A developer has commented that apparently there IS a height adjustment! This is great because not only is my issue resolved, but they care enough about thier product to monitor the Discussions. All this serves as even more of a reason to get this game, if only to support good customer service, lol

Suprisingly one of my FAVORITE games. I played the demo and decided to wait a bit to try it, and I regret it immensely. They've added so much that you're constantly managing these little zones, you're running through tasks and managing your time, trying not to make anything smash into eachother while making decisions quickly.

Definitely one of the best launch games, highly recommended.

Check out our full review @ https://vivereport.com/2016/10/05/fasten-your-seat-belts-for-final-approach-vr/

With its cohesive visuals and scoring, there’s no question that Final Approach VR is one of the more sophisticated games available in VR so far. It's the type of game you’d recommend to someone who wants to experience true room-scale VR for the first time.

So, is it worth the $24.99 price tag? In our opinion: most definitely, yes.

absolutley NOT WORTH THE PRICE! after literally 30 secs into the game, youve seen all it has to offer. while visually pleasing, you wont be happy with simply guiding planes down, scaring off birds or putting out fires. this game (and its a strecth to call it that) should be priced at 5$ to encourage people to at least try it. but seriously, this isnt a game.

Hesitated for a bit even after reading positive reviews but...

Found it quite enjoyable in VR since it feels like you're playing with miniature planes and helicopters (trying squatting down and getting a closer look at the people running around).

Is it worth the money? $10 is a steal.
