Why Early Access?

“Chronicon is a large project for just one person to maintain, so I ask the Steam community to participate in the development. I hope to be able to build a great community which gets to help shape the game itself.

My goal is to collect as much feedback as possible through frequent updates with fresh content, tweaks, and other additions, so that I may create a solid and polished game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I'm aiming for a full release some time in 2018. However, delays are expected as the game is constantly growing in scope based on the very excellent feedback I've been getting over the forums! I don't want to set a date and rush development - it's done when it's done.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will feature many more items, spells, abilities, areas, worlds, enemies, bosses, crafting and other mechanics. The goal is to have five complete worlds for you to discover and explore, slaying your foes and collecting the loot as you advance further. I also intend to have a lot of replayability through scaling difficulties and the option to loop the game with increasing challenge (and reward) each loop. A Hardcore mode will also be available.

Additional gameplay beyond the "Story" (end-game content) is also on the drawing board, but nothing is determined here yet.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Most features and mechanics are present, however there is a lot of content to be added, as the initial release (0.20.0) only featured one of the five planned worlds. Worlds will be added in major content patches over time, and smaller patches will be added frequently with various tweaks and additions. See the news section for recent changes!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the final game will offer almost TEN times as much content as the initial release (v 0.20.0), and as such the price is lower while in Early Access. Major updates usually come with a small sale, too.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will be actively participating in discussions on the Chronicon Steam Community Forums to answer any questions you might have, and reply to feedback. I would love to know what you like, dislike, and hear any suggestions or ideas you might have.

Update 0.70.6 - fixes & tweaks

Hey guys!

Here's another update taking care of all reported issues so far.
Next up is a lot of tweaks and changes to skills and some equipment, and possibly an additional little treat. Stay tuned!

  • Adjusted the damage of the Surger affix on monsters
  • Adjusted the damage of Fungimancas
  • Diana Jones will now despawn in The Lushlands when you've first talked to her after The Roost
  • Fixed optional areas in Act 4 sometimes spawning with incorrect door sprites
  • Fixed issue making shrines not always disppear from map when used. This typically would happen in boss areas
  • Fixed chests not properly saving their status when leaving an area, causing anomaly reward chests to not spawn the next portal
  • Fixed issue where chests, particularly anomaly reward chests, had a chance to be spawned inside walls
  • Fixed a ton of typos and grammatical mistakes on Templar skills (thanks Typh!)
  • Fixed the "rubiks" puzzles sometimes spawning solved, I think
  • Fixed crash from Warden trap skills
  • Fixed naming inconsistencies of places in Act 4
  • Fixed "Champion" Pylons spawning a stack of Elite pylons inside itself
  • Fixed enemies getting struck in walls (hopefully for good this time)
  • Fixed several buff skills causing crashes when used nearby companions
  • Fixed issue where returning to The Lushlands from The Roost after having completed the related quests would spawn the player randomly or in the sea
  • Fixed the quest log sometimes drawing objectives on top of descriptions

Update 0.70.5 - fixes & tweaks

Hey guys!

Yet another update is now available - thanks again for continuing to report issues to me!

  • Adjusted the frequency and likelihood of charging enemies to charge you, and slightly lowered the damage of the charge
  • Renamed the Armor of the High Ranger so it's not confused with the High Ranger set
  • Updated skill selection highlight to be more clear (ish?)
  • Fixed diminishing return calculations on Evasion and Damage reduction being completely off
  • Fixed bad results when generating The Lost City, which prevented progression
  • Fixed Crown Slaying appearing on the enchant index for accessories
  • Fixed a misleading stat name in the stats page (Overpower was called "Chance to Overpower" - is now "Overpower (Elemental Pierce)")
  • Fixed crash from using berserker skill "Thunderpunch"
  • Fixed pressing (B) on the controller when backing out of skill selection/binding closing the entire skill tree
  • Fixed rare issue where the Vengeful Spirit may not spawn, preventing progression into the Fallen Temple

What happens in a world where the last evil lies dead, the last quest is completed, and the last chest has been opened?

In this world, the long-dead Heroes of Old are forever remembered and honored through a great magical device. This device, known only as the Chronicon, is capable of opening a portal into the memories – the very souls – of the Heroes of Old. Each year, a handful men and women are given the great honor to re-live the old tales.
And this year, you have been chosen…

Note: Trailer footage and screenshots are of high level characters with decent equipment. Expect a slower pace at first.
