Huge update

Hello, Folks! It has been a tough year. We had a lot of personal problems that prevented us to update the game for a long time. But now we are back on track! This update brings a ton of new content and a lot of improvements.

We are carefully paying attention on the feedback from the community, both on the forum and on the reviews.

1 - Difficulty Fix -
A lot of improvements where made to make the game less frustrating. Yes, this game is supposed to be somewhat stressfull and frustrating, but not infuriating. We made so the ghots are dying faster (there's also a special mechanic that helps the players get them to die even faster) and we improve the controls, so the player gets a tigher feeling on jumping around. Also, now you have CHECKPOINTS and you don't lose all letters when you die. These changes, along with a smoother difficulty progression through the levels makes for a more enjoyable experience.

2 - A whole lot of new levels and mechanics -
This new version, feature both new traps and new power tiles. They are unlocked as you progress through the game, so you don't have to learn all at once. There are over 30 NEW LEVELS (the previous version featured only 10 of them) and there is more coming in future updates.

3 - Improved controls -
We fixed the issues regarding the camera shaking oddly when jumping and made the jump slightly more powerfull, so the jumps are easier now

4 - Improved character animations and effects -
The character has a new 3D model and new animations that blend in a way to help the player on getting a more precise and smooth feeling regarding the controls. Also, we added a trail and a shadow that goes a long way on helping you calculate the character's tragetory and figure it out where he is gonna land.

5 - Less Dark Enviroments -
We increase the light on the levels, so the player can see the level and its paths with more clarity.

About This Game

FACE IT is a game about facing the most challenging feelings of the human experience. It uses a dark atmosphere combining classic platform mechanics with survival dynamics to bring the feeling of wandering in the deepest and darkest places of the mind and soul.

Defeat Ghosts with the power of your inner light.
Face dangerous traps in a challenging platform experience.
Find your way through mazes and puzzles.

Through game design techniques, the levels are made to invite you to make a magical and metaphorical trip to your subconscious thoughts and deal with your inner issues.
The levels represents dark aspects of human consciousness, like Fear or Attachment. By beating a level, you shall find brighter states of mind, like Love or Truth.




As you might pass through the levels, you may unlock the magical sigils and symbols that represent those new brighter states of mind and unlock the keys for the levels from the Darkest World.

The sigils are symbolic representations of the magician's desired outcome. They are symbols created to cut through the walls of the conscious thought and affect directly the unconscious mind. It's at some extent, similar to subliminal messages.

One of the techniques we use to create sigils is a Sigilization method created by Austin Osman Spare, who was a magician, as well as a painter and graphical artist. The technique consists in writing spells with your intents, and agglutinate the letters to reduce the written statements in abstract symbols. The conscious mind may not remember the meaning of the symbols, but the subconscious keeps the memories about the symbol being made. This way, the symbols and their intents charge each other, exponentially increasing their influence on the mind.

Bustin' makes me feel... kinda mediocre, to be honest?

I got this game quite a long time ago, it seems, as part of some sort of bundle with another game. Forgot about it until it updated just recently. So, I decided to give it a go!

Face it is a puzzle (loosely?)/platformer that seems to revolve around facing your fears inside of your own mind. You control a little man with a big head, a flashlight, and the slowest run and jump combo you'll ever see in your life. Being this little big-head man, you will slowly plod around the areas to jump on platforms, avoid spikes and fires, and use your flashlight to dispel the sperm-looking ghosts that wriggle and whisper toward you.

The platforming in this game is the worst part about it, I feel. It's slow. It's unbearably slow. And, when you miss your jump and have to plod all the way back to the same spot to try again... It makes you very unlikely to want to give it another shot. You do have a sprint, but it's not that much faster than the normal walk, in my opinion. The jumping is floaty and unhelpful. The game doesn't make it clear, in some areas (as it does give the occasional 'try sprint and jump' in others), when the jump or the sprint and jump would work best. Sometimes, you just hold sprint while you're jumping and hope that you'll stick the landing.

The enemies are usually just mere annoyances that come when you're either in an easy place to dispel them or trying to attempt platforming. I really like the idea of being able to use the light to dispel enemies and it has a twin-stick shooter kind of feel, but once again... it's too slow and there's nothing dynamic about it. You hold the flashlight over the enemies and cast them back until they die. And, that's about it.

It's a shame, because the idea of this is solid! Exploring a persons inner demons and fears, spooky surroundings and music, and having a light system to keep them away? It sounds awesome! But, the slow platforming really holds it back, I feel. Speed it up a bit and let it get frantic. Make the enemies something to fear instead of something you just wait to be over so you can continue.

At it's current build, I can't really recommend it to someone unless you're willing to overlook all this stuff and play farther than I have. I'm sure it has something for someone, but I can't really play it. I wish the developer luck, however, and will continue to see what it has in store down the line.

This game is to simple like a 3d flash game, lack of soundtrack make this game feels empty, the level was different yet feels repeating and thats what makes this game lack of addcition & boring, the mechanism somewhat i find it weird, the setting and configuration need a little bit to fix, a bit buggy.... yeah i know this game is an early access game but the price, update, and what u get didnt match

But... this game is still developing (?) so lets put a hope in this game

The game controls are pretty terrible. Having to control the camera angle at the same time you are trying to run and jump and control your direction is a terrible idea. It might work better with a controller, but I doubt is, since you still have to control the camera. It's a shame, because I'd like to finish the game as the story seems interesting and it has a nice atmosphere, though the art is not great, but the controls make it unplayable.

I was really expecting a good story driven game. What I got was a really boring platformer. It has nothing to really seperate it from any other platformer except maybe the light? I didn't really notice a story in the first four levels (Level one, the extra level one, level two and the extra level two) and the platforming was incredibly boring, so I quit.

Alo after each level I played except for the extra level two, the game went in to a white screen that I could not get out of without opening the task manager. It didn't do it the last level but damn was it annoying.

I wouldn't bother with this game, regardless of how cheap it is. However, I'm sure this game will appeal to plenty of others and I won't fault them for that, I just personally don't think this game is worthwhile.

There are certain gameplay mechanics that are extremely annoying in this game.

1) The ghosts don't die instantly when you flash your torch light at them. They take a while to die. This gets really annoying when in later levels they are coming from multiple directions at the same time. It's not fun when you're toggling back and forth between the two ghosts.

2) Collect all letters to unlock a bonus level. Sounds like a good relaxation after your work? Nopes. Those bonus levels are exceptionally tough. When a game's tough above a threshold it doesn't feel fun anymore. It becomes a chore instead.

3) Die-restart mechanism + The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jumps = Let's say you keep jumping around different platforms and keep making progress in the level. You jump at some locations. Die, then figure out how to deal with it then try again. But the catch is that you need to start all over from the beginning again and go all the distance again. And all enemies are alive again. It's like groundhog day. There are no checkpoints in this game. Die-restart-die-restart-die-restart. It quickly gets annoying.

And a warning about the jumps. A lot of parts are just instincts - jumping the exact distance. No more no less. If you pressed shift (run key) throughout the jump then you overshoot and die. If you released it a little earlier you'll still fall on the edge and can fall down. If you released it at less than half the distance you'll fall before the ledge and die. The time to release it is too narrow. Combined with the game's die-restart mechanism these jumps become bad gameplay.

4) Lastly the drops. You get each drop in about 2-3 hours. There are a total of 4 drops (aka Trading cards)

General Impression
“Face It - A game to fight inner demons” is a hybrid between a platformer and a puzzle game. Far from being the best of both worlds, I did enjoy its attempt at standing out with the inclusion of a “spooky” theme and story. At least the dev tried something different and they almost would have succeded if not for the fairly high difficulty, constantly forcing you into a rinse-and-repeat pattern. Glitches and crashes (quite understandable since this is still an Early Access title) also hampered my progress. And yet Face It is still a nice little indie game which provides plenty of value, given it’s relatively low price point and the inclusion of Trading Cards. I can’t disregard its potential either, once it shall get all those bugs sorted out in further updates.

Strong Points
+ Challenging puzzles.
+ Eerie game atmosphere.
+ Steam Trading Cards.

Weak Points
- Few but annoying crashes and glitches.
- No Achievements.

Wow, AMAZING, i played the update offline so i don't have any hours anymore.
I'd like to say the developer really did put a lot of effort into this game and it's amazing, Everything i said before they made it and now the game is getting better and better.
Worth to buy it, just look at the screenshot and stuff makes people wants to buy it.

First of all -- I got a free key from orlygift.com, so I must disclose that. There was no requirement to write a review, and no constraints on my review, but I did get a free key.

The music is good -- a great creepy vibe.

That atmosphere is also good

The voice over narration is not my style -- a bit cheesy and over the top

Controls were updated based on user feedback, so the devs really seem to listen to the community, which is great. However, I still find them a bit clunky.

All in all an interesting concept, and a fun little game. I recommend the game, but I wouldn't pay more than a couple bucks for it.

I really like this game. Dense atmosphere, good sound effects, challenging puzzles and fluid gameplay. One of the most promising 3D plataform games i've played in a long time.

The strange thing about Face It is what happens after finish all available levels (in exeption of darkest world ones). I really don't know if it's just coincidence, but it give me really stange dreams. I don't remember it all, but in my dream i was chased by black smokes, quite similar to those found in game. To defeat this smokes i used the "Blade of light..." spell to break them. It was scary.

Waiting anxiously for new levels.

I'm not sure what is it -- a very questionable art project, or a pathetic platformer.

If it's the former, I don't think it should be on Steam (or at least, I don't think it should be sold). This reminds me of some other "art" game, called Sharf -- another example of how art project (or rather, some kind or a memorabilia) shouldn't be sold. Make it free-to-play, and the amount of negative reviews would be minimal.

If it's the latter, though, and we're reviewing this as a game... Well, that's some crappy game. Very bland platformer, with crappy controls and loose camera. I was especially repulsed by the voice-over of the game -- that's poor emo-poetry right there.

Anyway, however you're going to review this game -- art project or a platformer -- the outcome is the same. You shouldn't buy it, simply because it's poorly designed, has no depth and severely lacks polishing.

At it's current state I can't give it a good recommendation.

The poetry is good but I would like it better if there was a place where it was coming from instead of it being forced on me. Perhaps the player will find nodes and then that's when the poetry/narration comes in.

Why am I doing this? What is my motivation beyond the narration? It needs more.

The camera is making me feel dizzy. I don't understand why the controls are at war with each other. The person moves then the flashlight moves along with a "portion" of the entire screen. Please fix it, you know what I mean. Fix the camera so I can play further into the game without having a migrane.

UPDATE: I put your game in my "Early Access 2nd Chance" folder. So that means I will come back after awhile and try out your game again to give another fair review.

Emo Kid the game. Walk around while a spooky voice talks about darkness and light.

As a platformer, it is missing platforms and action.
As a puzzle game it is missing puzzles.
