About This Game

Gathering Sky is a playful, beautiful experience about a flock of birds on a journey across the sky. It starts with a single bird. Use your mouse to steer and grow your flock or let your birds find their own way. Dance in the winds of a far-away world and create an emotional story without words.

The world is brought to life by an original score by Dren McDonald performed by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Gathering Sky is enjoyable with any skill level and can be finished in under an hour.

The basic concept is good, the art is pleasant and the music excellent. The player's view is a little narrow, however, and the game quickly exhausts its repertoire of things going on, to the point where some of its additional plot features end up feeling a little contrived. Moreover, the overall story is short and fairly predictable.

Some people have found it relaxing and replayable. I disagree. I suppose if you easily get stressed, perhaps this will ease your lot, but if you're already laid back, this game will probably make no difference. More importantly, I think this game's replayability is very limited: there are only so many places to go and you can't really get far off the path it's encouraging you to follow, nor can you vary what you do much.

So do I recommend this game? No, not at full price, even though it's already fairly cheap. If it were discounted by 50%, however, maybe I would. And then I would say, "Play it once through - maybe twice - but don't expect too much."

Certainly not for everyone and quite short. Can be 'finished' in 30-60 minutes but not really the aim of the game either. If looking for something to help unwind after a long day, Gathering Sky just might fit the bill. Gameplay involved adding to your flock while exploring the skies along the paths of migration. Birds were controlled simply by a mouse click. Do feel the price could be lower but the orchestral soundtrack and how it's timed to in-game events was mesmerizing. Enjoyed "Ephemerid"? Should know what to expect. If you didn't? Might want to wait. Cheers.

Buy this game if you want a short sit-down-and-play-to-completion experience full of flow, exploration and charm. Don't buy this game if you've already decided "what's the point?"

You are the unseen guide to a flock of birds on migration. Using your mouse, you set where you want them to fly to - you start with one bird, but you'll quickly find more birds, who keep joining your flock until it's so large that it becomes a challenge to maintain order.

And the point? Either take your time to enjoy exploring the level and finding lost birds, or push on to your destination at the far right of the sky, where entering a thick bank of clouds will guide you seamlessly into the next region.

Gameplay video:

Get over your fears that this is a insubstantial non-game and you'll find this to be compulsive. It's got a great responsive classical score that uplifts when you're soaring along air currents, and makes you nervous when there's danger around.

And yes, there are dangers. Not "game over" situations, but things that threaten the unity of your flock, such as mountain peaks that split your flock in two, or eagles that chase your birds into a panic - providing the game's main heart-stopping moment.

The game is stripped to the bone to offer full immersion. There's one basic control - the mouse - and there's almost no HUD unless paused. Instead of telling you how to play, it allows you to work it out, using gentle prompts such as a wisp that you'll immediately realise should be followed. All this is why it works as well on mobile and tablet as on desktop. But you'll really want a large screen and some good heaphones to get the best out of Gathering Sky.

Play it if you're a sensitive prick like me.
This game has one of the most beautiful OST I ever had the opportunity to hear.
I'm wordless.

I cried.

Play the game.

Short, Beautiful, relaxing, scary, captivating, sad, and redeeming, this game is more than what people ask for, they don't ask for it aloud. 20/10, one of the best games of the year.
Though I do wish they still had the old soundtrack!

Gathering Sky is incredibly relaxing, immersive and cute.
A Gameplay & Review video showcasing features I'm about to mention:
You start the game as a lonesome bird, and slowly add to you flock by passing by them.
Before you know it, you'll have a bunch of birds on screen, and will find that the game pulled you in as you followed drafts of wind at high speeds, accompanied by beautiful music.

Seriously, the music in this game is amazing. The best part is it's designed in a way to match what you are currently doing in the game, be it calmly floating through the sky, being pulled by a fast current, or being chased by a predator.

The game's levels add new music, environments and mechanics. Which keeps the game fresh

The art style is simple, but really nice looking. It goes with the relaxing theme of the game very well.
The fact that you control the entire game using only the mouse (Or analogue stick for controllers) also keeps to the simple nature of the game.

I really loved the game, and if you like the look of it, you probably will enjoy it.

A thoroughly relexaing game.

I've been following this game since its beta,
when it was still called Apsis. You might want
to check if this is your kind of game though.

If you enjoy a relaxing, even soothing soundtrack,
and a game that's kind of meditative, this might
be for you. I haven't encountered a similiar
composition yet.

I remember having played games with the word
'Zen' in their title, that made my blood boiling.
But this. Even sets your mind at ease after
browsing a forum of angry flowers.

I was considering doing a Let's Play video of this game. However, I don't want to rob anyone of the experience of playing it as a brand new experience.

This is a beautiful work of art, especially for someone like me who loves birds, flight, and music. This experience combines all three into a lovely event which you owe it to yourself to sit down with on a nice, quiet evening. Dim the lights, find a quiet room, and play Gathering Sky.

If anyone still thinks that games cannot be art, this would be the first conterexample I would suggest.

Be kind to your mind, relax, and enjoy this experience.

Game was gifted to me :)

Beautiful art and soundtrack. Not very long, but still manages to create an atmosphere for how long it is. Actual gameplay consists of clicking and holding your mouse to guide a flock of birds. It's relaxing;there are certain instances where it gets more and more difficult to keep your flock together, but that's about as tense as it gets. Different regions have different characteristics to enjoy and/or watch out for.

There are times where you can just let the birds fly on their own without much difficulty, so just sit back and enjoy the flight. Other times, it is better to just guide them yourself for a little more precision. Just a little.

If you're looking for intense, challenging game mechanics, this probably isn't the game for you. If you're looking for something relaxing to pass the time, this is it.

Neat little art project.
There is not (much) more to the gameplay than the trailer shows.
There is some 6 scenes of nice painted background, nice music, with the combination of the two setting the atmosphere.
Gameplay is very simple. You will play this to appreciate the art and child out / calm yourself maybe.
The scenes do vary quite nicely, and the conclusion is really good.

Nice art,
very simple gameplay,
pretty short.

Yet again, another simple game with great art and astounding music. Short yet simple and sweet, Gathering Sky is a musical game about one bird (you control with a mouse or touchpad) who gathers its flock and guides them across the many skies. This game is very calming (with exception to a few times, but that's to be expected on those levels) and it is a great game to play when you want to relax. I love games like these and often play them more than once.

If only the Market had backgrounds from this game, that would be awesome. But the soundtrack makes up for that.

Recommended for the musicians and artists who enjoy simplicity and games in general!

Gathering Sky is a tremendously beautiful game. It's essentially a walking sim except you are a bird. You fly about aimlessly, watching the Earth in fuzzy focus far below and flock together with other birds as you let the winds take you where they will. There is no particular storyline, but the music and the scenery are very well-synced, and there are a few scripted moments of fright and delight as you travel this beautiful world. Meditative, and very pretty. Must-buy for fans of Proteus and similar walking sims/art games.

This is a lovely little game for what it is. It's a little more than a movie, a little less than a game: you guide your a growing flock of birds. That said, I DID feel a soaring sense of exhilaration at some point, and panic for my flock at other points. The soundtrack is beautiful. If you enjoyed the film "Winged Migration", you would enjoy the game, "Gathering Sky" captures the magic of birdflight, or watching birds fly. Don't expect an adrenaline rush as if you were playing "Call of Duty": this is the opposite, the perfect game for passing time when you just want to be able to relax.

A game in a similar vein to 'Flower', musically engrossing and beautifully detailed in an impressionistic art style. The music guides you on an emotional journey that finds you growing invested in your little bird, drawn in and surrounded by the sound. Best played with headphones. An hour 'flew' by before I was aware of it, the story told with no words drawing you on towards the end. You can make it as long or as short as you want, guide the birds where you will or let them be drawn along by the winds. One of those indie gems that show the artistic side of gaming.
