I had my mind set on this game being a portal type game but what it is for the price is a reasonable diversion. A little generic but if you like old school shooting with some decent level variety... this will fit the bill just fine.

While it is a short game, my total time for completion was just over an hour, I had fun the entire time. The overall pacing for the levels was good though I think my favorite bits were right near the end when you had a larger variety of enemies and level design. I probably ended up using the Shotgun far longer and more often than I should have as I got somewhat addicted to bunny hopping around and shooting all the robots.

Beyond the game itself, I think the thing that's sold me is the ability for player made levels and the fact the dev's didn't just greenlight the game and then dump it. They've been active with the community and working to get patches and other quality of life things fixed/implemented and I really appreciate that.

I really enjoyed SickBrick. It has very odd graphics but you get used to that and it's actually pretty appealing - crisp, clear art style and very colourful.

There's only 5 weapons but they are effective and satisfying. It's probably the easiest FPS I have ever played so put the difficulty at a notch higher than you would normally. I generally suck so always play on easy but my health was barely touched until the final boss fight.

There's a couple of sections that were a little annoying with these air fan things which turn it into a bit of a jumping puzzle but there's only 2 of them. It's a short game and very simple with no real story but it's a fun blast and definitely worth the few pennies I paid for it in a bundle.

Just spend the extra money and get Painkiller: Black Edition instead.

This game is honestly just really bad. The movement is bad, the level design is awful, the enemies are just boring and non threatening. It's buggy, poorly programmed, and there are much better "old school FPS games" that you could be playing. The log files are literally the most low-effort writing that could have been put into this ("Diary of a skeleton: Today I walked into a bathroom. Now I'm just going to sit here"), and the "tests" are literally just being dumped into a room of non-threatening robots while a robotic voice talks and occasionaly throws out some unfunny le reddit me-me humour.

Did I mention that it's been on Steam for a week and the developer has already resorted to putting it in an indie bundle? That speaks volumes for the quality, especially considering it was Bundle Stars of all places.

Thanks for disliking my video, developer. That actually helps it in the search rankings.

Edit: And the crash I pointed out in the video comes from a lack of error handling in the scripts. Really low effort all around.

Next-gen FPS, powerful arsenal of weapons, epic boss fights, smart AI, beautiful graphics. This game has none of them.
1/10 Would idle for cards again

Basic Information
Title: SickBrick
Genre: Action, Adventure, Indie
Developer: Mladen Bošnjak and Ron McDowell
Publisher: Mladen Bošnjak and Ron McDowell
Release Date: 30 Jan, 2015

Basic Overview
SickBrick is a very fun FPS with a satisfying Sci-fi genre theme that really works well. Some nice weapons, although the weapons to start off with aren't that great. A pretty easy and short game that mixes Portal and Serious Sam together to make this awesome game!

Game Play
I absaloutly love this game, although it's short and can be completed from anywhere between 1-2 hours it's still a gem of a game in my opinion. First off let's talk about the things that I don't really like about this game, and then we can get to the good things after. First off the game is way too short for the price that you are asking for the game. I completed the gmae in about a 2 hours, and was kind of suprised to see the game with such potential end off so short. I really didn't like that, the story wasn't all that good. With the lack of dialogue throughout the game, seemed like this game was just a shoot aliens that attack you. The way that the game tries to tell a story doesn't really work in my opinion, as the dialogue isn't presented enough for you to get pulled into the story enough. Other than some annoying jumping puzzles that's all the bad things I have about the game play of this game. But this compared with all of the really good stuff really makes it look good as there as so many good things to talk about. First off I want to talk about the variety of maps that are in this game, I really like it when a game really puts time and dedication into creating maps for levels. You can either be inside or outside and it really makes a nice change of atmosphere when shooting those robots. There are also some cool weapon designs that really fit the futuristic genre of the game. I really like the diffrenete coloured weapons that then corrospond to the colour of your bar at the bottom left of your screen. The overall pacing of the levels is good, there where some levels where walking through the corridors seemed to slow it down a little but as you got further into the game it started to pick up again. Really works well. Not only are you battling enemies on the ground with the weapon arsonale that you have collected, there are times where you can go into a tank which is really cool. Although it does change the perspective to third person when in the tank which (for me) took a little bit of the experience of a First-Person out of the game, but that's only really a small detail to complain about in my opininon. Nearer the end of the game there is a large variety of enemies and level design, which could've been used earlier in the game I guess but again another small thing I would only personally complain about. The last point I want to make, I wasn't sure whether it was negative or positive. I guess it'll be different from person to person. The game is fun, but challenge is really not a problem at all in this game. The enemies do negligible damage combined with the array of very powerful weapons and a lot of ammo you find throughout the game, it really does take the challeneging side out of this game.
Score (Out Of 10): 7 - Game too short, can be completed in 1-2 hours, the story isn't all that, dialogue isn't really used as the game progresses and some annoying jumping puzzles.

Graphics/Art Style
The graphics of this game are really nicely polished and well presented for a retro style and feel to the game. There are custom animtions for each of the different types of robots that you encounter along your way. It's also pretty simple, anyone can play it on almost any computer whether it's a bad laptop or what. For what it looks like it seems like a big game, with it's futurstic grahpics and stuff but really isn't that big of a game. One small thing is that sometimes the graphics can glitch out a bit and make the game not as good than it actually is.
Score (Out Of 10): 9 - Really nice retro style grahpics, with nicely presented animations for each different enemy robot. Sometimes the graphics glitch out a bit.

Music & Sound
The Music for this game is really nice, again fits perfectly well with the Sci-fi genre as does it set the pacing of the gameplay as well. The sounds are a bit of a dissapointment, just generic sounds but putting into consideration all the good things about the gameplay this game really is a gem.
Score (Out Of 10): 8 - Great music that suits the genre, sounds are a bit too generic for me.

I definatly recommend this game to any Sci-fi fans, and anyone who likes FPS. It has some really nice game play, along with a few bad things here and there about the game play but overall very good. The music really sets the atomsphere and pacing of the game, as does the retro graphics fit well with it too.

It's short, it's fun, it has dumb robots and odd explosions that kill you. What really makes this game worthwhile though is the easter egg hunts. Finding all the little phrases/clues that the dev left in. I have et to see it posted in the reviews so I will mention it here.

As a Stephen King Fan and the Dark Tower being one of my favorite series ever I love the references in this game. It really nailed the spirit of what an old world type training ground would be in the Dark Tower. Things that break down and still work but do not quite work and are slowly getting worst, feel like you are in some Dojo in one of the worlds that the beam has left behind. If you are a Dark Tower fan it's worth a playthrough just to feel like you have gone back to that world.

Sickbrick is a game made by... ahahah, I can't keep a serious face.

Lets totally ignore my usual review format. I am here just to give you a warning about this game which barely qualifies as one and definitely is not worthy of actualy being sold to anybody for any amount. This game in its total sum from beginning to the very end [Which is a mere 83 minutes by the way] feels like an amateurish student project and I actually played games made in a gamejam that actually feels fun and not like someone is constantly dragging my face through the ground and telling me to shoot cardboard targets that shoots foam at me while i engage them with a sniper rifle all the while yelling beside my ear that this game is "FUN".

It looks like ♥♥♥♥. No wait, even some of the worse texture I have seen had at least some effort put in it to be cohesive like a dirt floor outside and a gravel road inside the military base. Sickbrick has a single wall texture copypasted onto the ceiling and walls, and sometimes a different wall texture gets used for ceiling, floor, and wall. All in all you will be a madman trying to find a something worth praising about the graphics, it looks so ancient and dated.

Why do I even try... There is no sound balancing for most part of the game. A particular guitar riff during the desert section actually blew up my headphones which is set to 15% by default. For comparison I cannot hear anything in the game above a whisper because it was giving me migraine with its robot babbling random gibberish and stage FX that looks incredibly bad it was giving me migraine.

So yeah, no good points here either.

Performance, Controls, Option
I dont even want you to buy it so screw the options menu.

It runs at 60 fps all the time.

Controls are horrendous for 'twitch' based shooters like this, you cannot even trust your own bunny hopping since it tends to bounce of every single item or texture off this god forsaken world. The aiming is alright but wait until you get into the tank. You will be flying in no time thanks to the great effort that goes towards the bounding boxes of everything.

You have a gun, shoot anything that moves, easy right?

It's not supposed to be easy because this is a twitch shooter which rely on you almost dying most of the time and only surviving on the skin of your teeth due to the awesome skills which you posses. Not in this game, you are built like a tank and the only reason I ever died is because I got shot halfway across the room and landed in a pool of acid or my tank got blasted upward into the nether because I hit a piece of scenery or or..... ♥♥♥♥ it.

That literally all there is to this game, occasionally collect 1/2 keycard, shoot everything that moves and don't die which you can't anyways since there is cover all over the arena, healthdrops every single room transition, and the third gun you get completely negates the entire challenge with its incredible ability to outshoot everything and fire faster than the entire room of droid combined, with a ♥♥♥♥ing large magazine well.

Tank section? Its a rekin version of on foot combat except sometimes you get to change tanks.

Dont even buy this game, I played student game that actually felt more polish than this. I half suspect that this was made in a shooter fps gamemaker engine what with the amount of bugs, enemies, challenges and other stuff.

There's a total of 3 different minor enemies with 2 turret and reskin version of your tank shooting at you with pew pew, bash your head against the wall and read that again, a total of around 10 types and only 3 that you will ever face in frequency. 83 minute is already starting to feel like torture to me.

So much bugs, with a story that felt like it was made in 5 min.

Dont even buy it, its not worth the cards, the cents, the effort or even the time taken to idle it. Its a literal garbage. Save your money and get something else. Something that feels like an actual challenge.

Scoring Methology:
- S-Rank: excellent
- A-Rank: very good
- B-Rank: solid
- C-Rank: satisfactory
- D-Rank: inferior

Verdict: S-RANK [Shovelware]

After 40 minutes I had all the 5 weapons and in one hour I completed the game
It's pretty much like Portal without the puzzling, sounds awful but I enjoyed playing it.

I have no idea what is going on. You start and then enter a testing laboratory and are greeted by a robot who doesn't explain anything. You are then just given a weapon an are told to shoot robots for no apparent reason. It just progresses like that until you get a hover tank, which is absolutely rubbish. The only positive thing I can say about this game is that it has decent graphics for a game mad by two people. Just don't buy this game and spend the money on something more deserving.

As far as indy games go, well, it's not a 2D retro platformer. The guys put in a bit of effort. But for a game released in 2015, it doesn't meet the same graphical quality as FPS games 10 years older. Games aren't released in a vaccuum anymore - the developer must compete for time and money from gamers, and that means they need to release products that are either different to, or better than other examples of the various genres they enter into.

Sickbrick doesn't do this.

The graphics are poor, but the engine is stable and runs okay in 4K.

Gameplay is quite weak and unenjoyable, just enough polish for minimum viable product, but the control fidelity is just bad enough to be distracting.

Absolutely not worth the $4.99 they're asking for.
