From the creators of Phoenix Force, comes Cards of Cthulhu

Cards of Cthulhu is the Roguelike Card RPG full of madness.

In a sci-fi world from B horror movies, Cards of Cthulhu allows you to build your own deck of insane spells. Use them to defeat the terrible henchmen of Cthulhu and rescue your girlfriend that was kidnapped.

How does it play? The game is fast-paced and easy to learn, however, mastery requires foresight, improvisation and dexterity. In the deck building phase, you must analyse two options of cards and build a deck that has both synergy and specialization. In the combat phase, your cards are shuffled and only 3 cards will go to your hand. You then have to quickly improvise a combination to deal damage to the opponent, that can react and surprise you, forcing you to adapt to the circumstances.

Where is the Roguelike part? When you are killed, you will have the opportunity to build a new deck. Enemies will re-organize in new groups for a new experience. But don’t worry, you won’t start from zero. Permanent rewards will help you progress in your quest.

Looking for a small game that is fun, easy to learn and respects your intelligence? Please vote “YES” for Cards of Cthulhu!

Page for votting:

The game will be released on October 2016 on Windows, Mac and Linux.

  • Unique Card RPG gameplay based on spells;
  • Build your own improvised deck using 6 of the 15 cards of Cthulhu;
  • Learn to improvise new card combinations during a fight;
  • Roguelike procedural generator for a new deck and groups of opponents each game;
  • Available October 2016 for Windows/OSX/Linux.

About This Game

A dragon, a giant eye and the grim reaper confront you using fireballs, lasers and sickles. What do you do?

A) Say the game is unfair because you die with a single hit and there are no weak enemies and then cry with your mama; or
B) Dodge all this bullet hell and destroy the enemies in 30 seconds because you are a real gamer!

Phoenix Force is a shoot 'em up about a group of phoenixes that fight big and strong mythological creatures in over 100 levels. It takes the boss battle as the foundation for every level, creating engaging and challenging fast battles that will require your best strategies and reflexes.

The game starts a long time ago, when Earth was hit by meteors and everything burned to ashes. The Phoenix of Fire, Fury, was the first to reborn, and found the world full of monsters, the bosses, and rescued the other Phoenixes: Cryo of Ice, Tupã of Thunder, Gaia of Earth and Gast of Ghost. Together they are the Phoenix Force and they have to travel all the continents of our world in a journey to eliminate all the bosses in 100 really challenging battles.

Are you skilled enough to prove yourself the best?
This shmup will show you no mercy!

Phoenix Force is a victim of the way that Bullet Hell games are designed and perceived, these days. Bullet Hell aficionados tend to be interested in difficulty and variety, and should therefore retreat to a safe distance and not bother with this game. There isn't much here to test the reflexes and mettle of those familiar with Touhou games and their ilk, and the aesthetic and mechanics of the game aren't anything special. Although the OHKO tightrope is firmly in place, plenty of BH players have supernatural balance and won't be in danger of falling to the wiles of this game,

Unfortunately, it's also slightly too difficult for any 'casual' bullet hell gamer (oxymoron?), or a newbie to the genre. I certainly am, and was flattened at several points during my playthrough - I'm not awful, but it was mostly bloody-mindedness that saw me through. This isn't a conventional 'beat the level, face the boss' style of game, either. You're solely confronting boss enemies, which vary in number and type as the levels tick by. Towards the end, I was relying on certain combinations not to appear; that feather-spewing pile of rubbish can go directly to hell without passing Go, as far as I'm concerned.

The gameplay is reasonably solid, with your weaponry and special ability being constantly fired or triggered at the appropriate time, meaning that all you need to focus on is the incoming barrage of projectiles...and where your bullets are going. The premise is a tad bizarre, but the different phoenixes offer some potential variety, although they're mostly differentiated by their special abilities. Otherwise, the game is just a straightforward slog through linear levels as the bosses get tougher and more numerous.

Honestly, it's all a bit dull. Marginally too tough to be an introductory entry to the bullet hell genre, but far too easy for seasoned pros - Phoenix Force lies firmly between a rock and a hard place, filling a niche that few people occupy. Some questionable design decisions and a dull, minimalist colour palette bog down an otherwise reasonable game. I can't see it rising from the ashes of my backlog ever again.

I was supposed to graduate from the university, but this game made me want to be a phoenix shooting flying eyeballs. 10/10.

[I've never thought I'd like this game so much. It's quite addictive and challenging (and makes me swear a lot). I enjoy the whole experience, even if it's only a nice little game to play when you've got some time on your hands. Good job, devs!]

Fast paced, hard and addictive like any shoot'em up should be, but with an welcome fantasy theme over the usual space-battle-sci-fi-furutistic-neon.
There are six diferent playable phoenix, each with an unique ability to help you in the battle againts the sea of bullets the bosses are going to send your way.

Great addictive and fast gameplay, nice visuals and powerfull soundtrack are certain to give you a good dose of chalange and an overdose of fun.

I saw and I have played many Bullet Hell games. Some of them were harder or easier to get into but in my opinion, Phoenix Force is a great way to start your journey with this kind of games.
Starts very easy - with one enemy which you can learn about, then starts to add more of them with even more different and more complicated attacks. Some of the combinations are deadly and demand from player to avoid them cleverly and that's where most fun thing starts. Every phoenix in this game comes with up unique skill so that every player can find a one that will fit in his play style to beat every level. There are 200 levels in total (100 in normal game + 100 in challenge mode) but these are really short and easy to beat once you will get a grip of everything.
It's not a hardcore Bullet Hell game like Touhou, but it's a definitely worth to play if you want something easier from this genre.

Great game!! This game isnt worth 4.99 but if you can get it for 40cents or free is deff worth it!! Its pretty much a flash game with the 10 different bosses that have different attack moves. Fun game to waste time! Does get challenging!

Phoenix Force is not worth $8.

It is a boss battle style shoot 'em up. The different birds you unlock have different special abilities, the bosses are varied and interesting. It's not bad game, it would be amazing for a free flash game or $1 mobile game. The game is fun at first, but the further I got into it the more it started to wear out it's welcome and become very tedious - some levels would be a breeze while some had me pulling my hair out. In some levels you battle multiple bosses which is cool but also kind of seems like padding - but some combinations are very frustrating and make me wonder how much they play tested this game. In a good bullet hell game you die because you messed up, by throwing to random bosses together this game put you in situations you can't anticipate or escape from so it just becomes a game of spray and pray.

The devs are being rather greedy - if you can get this game cheap go for it, it's fun and will keep you entertained for a while.

Awful game. I thought this might be like Dragon Spirit on Nintendo. It itsn't it's a port of a mobile game. Mouse only which means no gamepad. Also, the shooting is done automatically. Oh hey, do you like sound effects? This game doesn't have very many of those. Lame game.

This is what I was lacking recently in shmup games. All the games in store are ok, but they don't have something special like this game does. A good setting, nice graphics, smooth music and upgrades, that make you complete stages over and over again to level up your phoenix. Neat! The game is not that challenging. It was ultra easy up to the stage where 3 bosses fought me at once. Yeah, sometimes it seems too grindy, sometimes - too easy. The thing I like the most - the bullets are not all those regular spheres, as it used to be in most bullet hell games. Every enemy has it's own projectiles (Harpy uses feathers, Gargoyl - chains, etc.) If you're a fan of bullet hell - this can be a great addition to your collection.

This is Basic Shoot 'm Up Game.

Game is about dodging bullets and try to defeat the boss of every stage.
One hit you die ... no extra lifes... oldschool hardcore style..... !!!!
Shooting is beeing totally automatic and also the super power.
Super power will comes in handy if you can use it when you want and need it.
So most of the time is a waste of power because it shoots the wrong way or wrong time.

You play thought 100 stages and try to rescue all you bird friends.
They all have special touch like ice, fire.... or have faster shooting.
For me they all feel like the same so using another character feels pointless.

Personally I really like these kind of games.
Game has a cartoony way it's made and very funny.
Only this game is little bit disappointing.
It's more of the same and gets really boring after some time.
What really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me off is that every level it's getting much harder only the rewards stays the same.
You need the reward for going lvl up.. so the problem is.
Rewards stays the same... LVL up goes very slow after 20 stages.
Only you get much harder bosses.. This is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t !!
So you need to farm points to make the game lititle bit easier.

Game is fun for a few hours ... very disappointing I give it a 6/10.

No, I cannot reccomend this game. It's good enough for a cheap google play app, but no way this could be called a decent pc game. In fact, the roots of this game are found in original flash game by the same developer - Boss Slayer. For a flash game it was a masterpiece! But this lacks the good design and creativity - new levels here are just combinations of previously seen bosses. I am also disappointed that instead of turning this one something good, they are making the second game.

This is simply a one of the best Shoot 'em up games I have ever played - would recommend this game to everyone.

Cheap - I got it on sale 90% off for $0.49, and spent 15 hours. This is worth.
This is a Boss-type SHUMP, so if you don't enjoy shooting up fodder like in most games, this will suit to your liking.
Every level helps you learn something about each specific boss, which is important because the later levels will have you fighting multiple bosses (up to 4) at once!!
Each boss has a unique yet simple moveset and usually have 2 phases, forcing you to make decisions on who to focus in multiple-boss levels.
Plenty of content - 100 normal levels, and 100 challenge levels (4 random bosses at once)
6 playable birds, each with unique abilities like teleportation, freeze, fire wave, homing etc.
Replayablilty - even after the game is over, the challenge levels are random 4 bosses so they can be replayed forever.

I wish there was a level-editor because I have very intersting boss matchups in mind. For example, I want to fight 4 Blue serpents at once (that would be truly bullet-hell challenging)- best chance is to play a challenge level to see if you get multiple serpents.
The 6th bird is unlocked by beating the 100 challenge levels, but is very underwhelming, I wish the rewards are more meaningful.
The leveling and upgrade system, while cool, is minimalistic and could use more variety and options.

Overall rating: 9/10

Phoenix Force is awesome.

It starts out slow, but level by level it gets crazier and crazier.

One hit and you're dead. Start again, do it over. No forgiveness, and that's great. It has you holding your breath as you need just one more second, to avoid one more bullet, to finish a boss before he finishes you.

Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the beginning. As more and more bosses show up in the same round, you're going to start to feel the weight of the challenge.

I can't believe I only spent 9 hours on this game so far. It feels like so much longer because you really have to slow down time to ensure that you can dodge those bullets with the one life you're given. It really helps train focus.

It's a great game to pick up for a few minutes, dodge, kill, and then leave it for another day.

Although there are a limited number of bosses, they combined in many different ways making each fight is unique.

If you enjoy old school, one life to live, inhuman dodging... you'll like this game.

... edit ...
(From what I see, most of the negative reviewers, who say the game is too easy, are from people who have played this game for only a few minutes. Of course they are going to think the game is going to be easy if they never make it past the first few levels! It's kind of like saying a game is too easy because they *crushed* the tutorial. Although, in the end maybe they game wasn't for them, because if they don't have the patience to get to higher levels, they probably don't have the ability to focus intensely and deeply, without distraction for a few minutes, which is an essential skill in higher levels).

My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 28, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because this game gave me cancer anyway.

my first computer games were the original space invaders etc so joy when i bought a few games in the shoot em up sale!
this utter piece of mince however only brought 9 minutes of eye gouging anti climax!
from the screenshots etc you think its going to be gold! in reality its lame ♥♥♥ garbage tier boss after boss that take less than a minute to defeat!
it is not BULLET HELL its bullet marshmallows sprinkled with fairy dust that a feotus would have no difficulty navigating!
there are far better alternatives out there

The game is fun for a while if you like top down shooters generally.
Some say it's addictive but I don't see it.
It's good practice though.

Recommended when on sale.
Otherwise, there are so many better games.
