What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

ATTENTION PLEASE. DO NOT BUY THE GAME IF YOU EXPECTING THE FULLY PLAYABLE GAME RIGHT NOW.
But you should buy it if you want to support us and participate with development progress. If you're interested, please continue to read this message.

So, sorry for slightly noisy greeting, we noticed that many people have have no very good opinion about Early Access games, because some of those games is "taken money and runs" and we don't want to get a bad reputation from the community.

Right now it's pre-alpha, very early access, but we decide to open "Early Access" so early because we want to work with community. Imagine the game where you can express any yours idea and developer really listen you, gives answer and really can implement it in the game. This is exactly this game.

Please make note, this is very early access which is not very playable for now and it don't have any game goals, but due weekly updates it will quickly come to a playable version.

There is two reason why we decide to open Early Access

1. We're really like to work with community. We read every feedback which you send to us and we already got many great ideas from the discussion thread in the Greenlight. Some ideas already implemented, others will be implemented soon.
But those ideas based only on information from our development blog, but now we want to give you the opportunity to participate in the testing and to make more specific suggestions about what exactly you want to see in the game.

2. Unfortunately we develop the game without any start-up budget, so we really need some support. The Kickstarter is not available for us, besides, we don't really like pre orders, but even now Celestial Command can provide some amount of fun and due weekly updates it will become better very fast. In addition, we make a significant discount during whole early access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to finish phase of active development before Summer 2015. This should be enough to implement all planed features.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to implement multiplayer, procedural generated missions, trade between stations, relationships between factions and gathering resources from planets.

It is unlikely that interstellar traveling will be implemented, instead of that we want to fill entire star system with life.

There is a possibility that crew or planetary battles will be implemented, but we still not sure how exactly it will looks. This question probably will be discussed with community on the late phase of the development.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

ATTENTION: Now it is a very early access and the game is not very playable for now. It is more than tech-demo but less than stable, playable version. Let's call it pre-alpha.
So, buy it only if you want to support us and participate in testing and development process.

This is list of important things which is still not implemented:
Save Load
Multiplayer
Craft System
Missions

But here is a list of things you can do:
Build various ships and switch manual control between them
Fly around star system with realistic orbital mechanics
Mine asteroids for fuel and power
Encounter with random enemies and turn their ships into space garbage
Clean the orbit of debris until it don't crashed with something
Enjoy the beautiful celestial movings and tell us what exactly do you want in the next weekly update.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The full price of finished game is 16$, but during early access, the game will have 50% discount, so now its cost 8$. The price will be risen only when game will have more amazing features and it will worth its price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“As we said above. We're consider any ideas from community and your ideas really can be implemented. You shouldn't thinking "I have a so cool idea which will make the game so great! But probably developers are to busy to listen me". Don't be afraid, we will find time to answer you. If ideas will be so many so we want be able to read them all, we will inform you, but until then, we glad to any ideas which will help us to make the game better together!”

Multiplayer is the next goal

Hello dear followers!

We have a feeling that there is no news from us, time to fix it! And as the title says, multiplayer will be available in the next update!

Actually, we are already working on it for a few days. Pretty complicated task, but we achieve a good progress. Still not sure how much time we need to finish it, may be a week or two, but not sure. We still learn a many things about multiplayer since we don't have much experience in this.

What to expect in next updates
Unfortunately for now we don't have an update for you. Since multiplayer in development, many core systems now in disassembled state, so we unable to make an minor update when the games does not work.

But probably we will implement some new things together with multiplayer. For example solar panels was improved. Their effectiveness is based on distance from the star and it will gain new model with correct collider of panels. Also we started to develop new interaction system which will allow you to set a hotkey for various actions, for example, deploy solar panels or disable some group of engines.

One month in Steam
And one more thing. We are one month in the Steam! Hm... Okay, 37 days. :) 7 days ago we was too busy in the development, but anyway. :) Seems like all going great! We made 9 updates during this time and seems like the game have a very good progress. It had greatly changed since our first trailer, now we have save\load and soon we will have a multiplayer. We were very afraid that people will say that we released the game too early, but all your reviews makes us really happy! Thanks you!

Christmas update?
Yes, we want to give you something special as a christmas gift, but since the game in pretty early stage of development, we not sure that we ready to add some christmas stuff. Multiplayer probably will be a better gift, but it still requires some works and we not sure that 5 days is enough to finish it. Anyway, we will keep you in touch!

About This Game

Celestial Command is a realistic sandbox space game which unites real space flight, real orbital mechanics, and all the fun of classic space action games.
We want to show how games about space actually should look, without silly vacuum friction and the maximum speed limit. As in the real world, everything in this game is in continuous motion in orbit.

Realistic Orbital Mechanic

This game is not about silly vacuum friction and maximum speed limitation. It is about real physics and orbital mechanics like in the real world! Get to know with orbital maneuvering, launching satellites and protecting planets from asteroids.

Fully customizable Ships

You can build your own ship part by part. Each part of the ship is individual, it has own functions and parameters. Therefore, abilities of your ship are completely dependent on the modules from which it is assembled. You can build small explorers, large industrial ships, carriers, defence satellites or whatever you want.

Ship Management

All resources of the ship are limited. Including fuel, energy, ammo and parts for repair, so store them and use them wisely.

Command a Fleet

You are not bound to the single ship. You can build as many ships and space stations as you want. And you can switch between them anytime.

Seamless Star System

Explore a procedural world filled with planets, asteroids, space stations and other fun stuff. The world of the game is completely seamless, you can zoom out from your ship to the whole star system.

Gather Resources

Survey asteroids for useful resources, extract it from planets or salvage wreckage of defeated enemies.

Multistage Production System

The extraction of raw materials is not enough to build a new ship. You need to process raw materials in special facilities to produce parts that are required to construct ship's modules.

Fight the Enemy

Build various types of devices to fight against enemies. Cannons, lasers, rockets, shields and other useful devices.

There you can explore the procedural world, find the resources, build any type of ships or space stations which you want, command your fleet and fight with enemies.
The game is 2D, so it is pretty easy and fun to play, but we implemented unique graphic style, which allows it to look like 3D with modern lighting and effects.

Also, the game has now been in active development, so if you are interested, check out our development blog for new features and future plans.

Early Access Review
This game is my first purchase of the "Build your own ship" genre that seems to be budding in the indie game world, so I have nothing to compare it against.

I really wanted to NOT recomend this game but it wouldn't be fair to the developers, they are doing a pretty good job at keeping the community updated on progress and sending out changes rather quickly. At the momment this is a bare bones space sim with (most) of the merciless physics of space.

The negatives (as of November 30th, 2014--keep that in mind and read the changes logs)
No storyline. Bad guys look like your ships. Have a basic AI.
No missions
No use for some of the mining resources.
No in game tutorial. Read the guides first. Lots of information is missing at the momment or not apparent. I expect that to change.
No mercy for the uninitiated. Fuel runs out and you'll be spinning and or zooming off to the great unknown.

The good (again as of November 30th)
Quick to play space ship sim. Guides are a quick read.
Easy to build ships. Again, no tutorial yet but its not too hard to figure out.
Physics! Also a curse if you want a action game. Things float away. Explosions send you (or your enemy) zooming away. The more mass you have the more fuel you consume. Fuel is a big deal here. Pesky objects block your solar panels preventing you from powering your defences.

This game has great potential, I am looking forward to seeing future developments. One of the best things about it is that it's cross platform. There are few display bugs on Linux, but that is alright it is still an early access game. Please don't neglect us though.

It's definiately worth every cent.

Just been playing for a couple hours so far, but I really like the idea and I am very excited to see what the devs are going to add in the future! At this price, even if it is an early access game, it is worth it!

This game is a Gem that popped out of nowhere it may have seemed basic at the start and yet with its Early Access state has been making a lot progress. I would say it's (Honestly) a lot of fun everything is free cost build right now so it’s fun in the sandbox so as always Imagination is the limit. If you like space Sims, mix in combat, Snap-On build like system, Mining, Missions, little bit of micro manage of resources and they keep adding. I would say honestly pick up Celestial Command give it a shot.
Plus you can see the Devs honestly do care about this game because they are constantly active take a look at the forums.

I honestly enjoy it. –Stalker1o2

Been wanting a game with this kind of mechanic for so long. As a project of exploration, I think it's well worth investing in. A space game that actually treats space like space!

Thumbs up for a great concept, looks very promising even being in a very early stage.

However, keep in mind this is not 'ready to play' by any means, at this time I'd consider buying it only if you like the general idea and want to support the devs with funds.

Has the potential to be a very unique and great game though.

I've been waiting for a game like this for a long long time. This isn't your typical arcade/causal nonsense - the game is as sophisticated as the games I was raised on and it takes realistic space to a whole new level.

Be advised that the game is still in early development and is nowhere near fully playable. Still, I'm waiting eagerly for updates.

Early Access Review
At first glance Celestial Command just looks like just another spaceship game, but if you take time to play it you will discover a very well designed sandbox experience. Even though the game is at a very early stage in development a lot of the really important features are there to enjoy.

At this stage in development you can free build whatever ship your heart desires. Want to build a small mining ship to collect everything in the solar system, or what about a battleship to kill everything that comes across your path? All of this and much more can be built. The building mechanics themselves are intuitive and easy thanks to a snap in style feature. You can easily see what components will snap in to a given space and if you have any free points left. The only complaint I have to building is the unintuitive linking feature the modules use to become operational. Now, the feature isn’t bad in any right, in fact I love that everything has to be connected to work. My issue is that I have nothing to show me how or what to link in order to activate the module. Of course this issue can be easily fixed with a small tutorial for the game.

After playing the game for a while I discovered the physics to be very well done. If you are familiar with any type of realistic orbital mechanics then you will feel right at home. If you are not then it may take some getting used to. The mechanics remind me a lot of Kerbal Space Program and at times Celestial Command feels like a 2D version of it. Of course in my case this is a good thing. The realistic mechanics give the game a welcomed challenge and add another layer of fun and experimentation.

The overall design of the game is great from what I have seen up to this point. Although the game is being made in a 2D space the design is crisp and well done. When playing in HD all the textures and models look great. I will definitely look forward to seeing more from the team.

Overall I would say development is coming along nicely. Of course you can see that at the time of this review the game has just released. With that being said, even at its current state the game is well worth the price. If you are looking for a fun game in which you truly free build any ship, fly through realistic space physics to kill and mine then what are you waiting for?

It should go without saying but this is a review for the current EARLY ACCESS version of the game. If you buy the game it is at your own risk.

This is one of those gems that need and deserve more attention. So far only 6 reviews have been placed. Meaning, probably not many players have this game or know about it.

For anyone thinking of buying the game, i'll explain to you why you should.

The price
The price of when buying while it's still early access, is just 7,99 EUR. Not so sure about other currencies. This isn't much. When it's fully released, it will be doubled If im right

Gameplay
The gameplay is very smooth. Especially for an early access title. The amount of things you can do is pretty limited at the moment, but of what the developers have told us, this will be much more fun to play. Don't get me wrong. I'm already enjoying this alot.

What im excited about the most, is the amount of updates and the developer-community relationship. The developers actually view the discussions, reviews and questions. And update the game according to what the people want to see.

My personal favorite will be multiplayer.

And while im at it, will there be planet interactions? Something i would really love to see is being able to inhabit a planet and build al kinds of structures on it. Miners, defence systems, that kind of stuff. And automated transporting between those planets using actual npc ships or something. Gives the player the feeling of power and accomplishment.
