Why go super Saiyan when you can go super Saiyan 2? A few reasons...

With that opening line, I'm implying that this game is pretty much going to be retired.
Xenoverse is still gonna be around, but with Xenoverse 2 coming this very month, all players will undoubtedly migrate to that.
Don't back out yet!
As I said, there are some reasons to still play this...
  • First off. The story.
The story is somewhat a fantasy come true for many old fans of DBZ. They really did a great job with this.
Jump into the iconic fights that DBZ fans grew up with. History is being changed and you're fixing it. You even have your own important fights, making you feel like your character gets their existence reasonably well established in the universe.
  • Muscle memory.
Controller recommended. The gameplay can be a strain on your hands at first and something to get used to. As the sequel is gonna expand on the gameplay mechanics a bit, it might be good to get familiar with the "basics" in this.
  • Most notably!!
The hero (your character) of this game, will appear in the story of the sequel.
You will be able to transfer your character from this game over to the new one, and they will appear as a holographic statue in the new hub city, aswell as in person. (They'll possibly even have their stats and moveset carry over, and be available in your random battles. This doesn't seem to be confirmed yet though)
How important this is to you, you decide. Otherwise the role seems to just be some poster character the developers created.

Xenoverse could be considered a 3d fighting game. It lends itself to the MMORPG genre a bit with its online hub area, but it's relatively small in scale and this hub is rather dull.
The game can be played solo as a story game all the way through, but as the game is designed around being online it can feel empty if it's not filled with other players.
Xenoverse has had a list of problems such as hit detection being bad in PvP and battle timers being too short. These things among many others have been improved in the upcoming sequel.

Overall I can still recommend Xenoverse, since it was a good game and most downsides could be excused, due to a small development budget.
But I can't really say there's much reason to get this game besides the character transfer.
Wait for Xenoverse 2.

Nice Game just some stuff missing in it

*weak Ai
*servers lags at most times espically in pvp
*hard to find pvp matches since some hackers or spammers or grab spammers come in the way
*when I do search match I Can found like 4 lobbies or 6 for pve while pvp nothing.
*the PVe isnt fun if the Ai is weaker than very easy level espically if you are in high lvl

The game is flawed with balancing issues however if your looking for a fun adventure to play with friends this game can be a lot of fun and it often goes on sale for 75% off.

However with Xenoverse 2 coming out there is not much of a point unless you want to import your character or get familiar with the core game mechanics.

Xenoverse 2 from what we know essentially solves all of the issues in this game and turns the game into a Dragon Ball Z Sandbox or even a Dragon Ball Emulator =)

Unfortunately, Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a very unpolished and frustrating game.

Spelling mistakes (such as misspelling Beerus' name) plague this game, which is a big, red flag for a game priced at 50 euro. Apart from that, Xenoverse is simply put, a very poor Dragon Ball game. Excluding certain story characters such as Zarbon; Dodoria; Android 16; Dr. Gero; Imperfect and Semi-Perfect Cell or Majin Vegeta, it also skips a huge chunk of the Sagas presented in Dragon Ball Z.

Due to not including the necessary characters. The Namek Saga starts off with the Ginyu Force because Cui, Dodoria and Zarbon aren't present. The Cell Saga begins with Perfect Cell because Imperfect and Semi-Perfect Cell aren't present. The Android Saga doesn't include Androids 16, 19 or Dr. Gero. The Majin Buu Saga skips everything related to Gohan and Videl, Majin Vegeta and the Supreme Kai. It just feels lazy.

The game is riddled with artificial difficulty and grinding, too. You will have to fight multiple opponents that can very easily stunlock you by spamming super or ultimate attacks. Very often, opponents will have Super Armour (or was it called Hyper Armour?) too, meaning you can't even stun them by attacking.

It's no surprise so many players are resorting to spamming ultimate attacks while transformed as Super Saiyan.

The game prides itself on the ability to create your own character too, but this doesn't stand out much either. You get a few races to pick from (Freeza's, Namekian, Majin, Earthling or Saiyan), where Earthlings and Saiyans have the exact same options for customization. As Majin, you get the choice between Fat Buu or female Kid Buu(-ish); no Super Buu at all. You can't even change your Ki colour or your fighting style (your regular punches and kicks). Why can't we opt to take the same fighting style as Vegeta, Piccolo or Freeza? You can train under all of them, but they only give you a few super and ultimate attacks instead.

The last point is grinding. Yes, this game includes the ability to trade items, but only the very low levelled ones. For the rest, you'll have to resort to grinding. If you aren't lucky, you might have to spend hours upon hours redoing the same mission for that one attack, or that one piece of clothing you want.

I truly love this game. It gives me all the dragon ball I need while I wait for a new super episode <3
I wish I knew how heavy DBX2 would be so that I could buy that :)

Worth the buying 10/10

It's fair to say this game is intended for big Dragon Ball fans, so if you're not, you won't get as much enjoyment out of it as someone like myself who adores the series. If you love Dragon Ball and have always wanted to create your own character to adventure through the story with your favourite characters, then this game is... good, but not perfect.

The graphics, art-style, stages, controls and music are all very nice and you’ve a good amount of options for your original character, but it's plagued with some minor issues that can slightly ruin the experience. Like how they didn't bother lip syncing the characters, the overworld is cumbersome to navigate and GOOD LORD THE GRINDING. You spend a lot of time doing it and you pretty much have to if you want to stand a chance as the story progresses. I hope it'll all be addressed in the sequel. Random drops are also a big pain to get what you want. Also, this is just me, but sometimes it can be a bit difficult to get your bearings when you're flying and warping around a fully 3D environment.

But, if you can get passed all of these issues, this game is incredibly fun and if you've got a mate who loves DBZ as much as you, nothing beats creating characters together to fight each other and complete the large amount of challenges in the game. So if you're a fan of DBZ and see this game on sale, I'd recommend checking it out. If you like it, there's a ton of content for you to enjoy, but trust me, it'll get frustrating sometimes.

Online servers are down most of the time... or it might be just me, and whenever they are online the connection of most players is aweful. :c

Nevertheless the story is super fun and the parallel quests + different characters and builds keep you busy for hours and hours.

First of all, I'd like to say that yes, I would recommend this game to any Dragonball fan, simply because it is the best Dragonball game ever, which does not necessarily means that it's a great game!!

- Dragonball Z!
- Dragonball Z characters and series are all present and faithful to the original.
- It is a good fighting game, complex and satisfying, but it was courageous enough to try and do something different, something more. So, you have a story mode! Which is not great in itself, but at least you have a reason to go around beating random characters up, at least every once in a while!
- RPG elements for your character: you choose their appearence, level them up and add points to traits, in order to better reflect your fighting style, you choose a teacher who is going to pass on to you their most iconic techniques.

- As mentioned, the idea of having a story is great, the idea behind the story is great, but all the potential is quite wasted, on a story that is always quite flat and void of interesting twists.

Overall pretty happy with the game, it's got a few flaws but leagues better than the crap DBZ games we've gotten over the last few years. Here's hoping Xenoverse 2 continues the trend!
