The Tower 2015 Edition: Pre-Alpha Access

Hello everybody,

In a few days time, we'll be putting up special access to the pre-alpha version of The Tower: 2015 Edition, which will be available from Steam for the low, low price of £0.99.

We've come to realise that if we engage players now, even at this very early stage in development, we hope to acquire valuable feedback and pretty much work it in a.s.a.p. This is a build that will constantly update. Some of it might not even be playable, some of it may only be in-game cutscenes or dialogue, but we hope you can start to see the differences immediately.

Here's a short FAQ for what to expect:

q) The pre-alpha is cheap. Why?
a) The pre-alpha at this stage, is exactly that. Experimental and unfinished. You can help us shape it's future by seeing what we're doing and giving feedback. It all helps!

q) If I buy the pre-alpha, will I receive the final version for free?
a) No. The pre-alpha will only contain content up until Beta. After that, the game will be considered 'shaped' and all further development will be locked until release.

q) What can I expect as the pre-alpha develops?
a) Story chapters to finalise, first-look gameplay and your name in the credits if you choose to help!

The pre-alpha will be live in a few days, so stay tuned!

***UPDATE: Scratch that. We've decided to generate 50 Alpha Keys to give away for FREE, to those who request them below. Fifty people is far easier to manage and communicate with! Once you have your key, you can access the 'Beta' tab, by right clicking on The Tower in your Steam library and opting in via the drop down box.

“I have only played the beginning so far but the moment I passed through the darkness I really felt that this was genius... I have surround sound headphones and it took a while to adjust but then I heard the water and decided to head towards the noise. I could sense the distancing and the placing of the water through my headphones and I walked towards it and splashed the water... I was amazed when I heard a faint sound of air and follwed that toi the next area. I havew never played a game that requires senses and I instantly want more. I congratulate you. However are you going to put a price on it? And I have a good computer but it stills lags? However amazing game and so far have been fascinated. I don't give 10s ever but after seeing well hearing this and that it actually worked and I had to rely on senses I was astounded. I was tempted to give 9 since I donnt know what is up ahead but I thought the genius behind it all was magnificient?!”

This isn't a game, it's a poorly designed chore. An actual chore wouldn't have have you bumping into invisible walls the entire time. Don't pay for the privalge of doing a poorly designed chore, stay away from this game.

Quite disappointing. Annoying unskippable intro, the voice acting is good but overwritten, and I fell through the world when I got to a flashback. The "fighting" is ♥♥♥♥♥ic and lazy; it's quicktime events you don't even get to see. The whole game is just an unnecessarily long boring story with a few areas of graphics.

I gave up on playing this game after it glitched out & refused to let me enter a building I'd previously been in & out of at least 5 times.

I have high hopes for this game, it seems interesting. The version I played wasn't the final release, so hopefully the bugs will be ironed out in the final version.

The following are issues I had with it:

* Movement can be stitled, especially in the flashback scene
* The gardening scene in the flashback is ridiculously buggy, you have to wave your cursor up & down the rows of plants for ages until the interact hand pops up
* You're not told about quick time events until you're in the quick time event
* I couldn't find an 'exit game' menu, and had to exit the game through the task menu
* The commentary track doesn't acknowledge when it's already playing, and will play two at once if you click on multiple items that trigger commentary tracks
* Invisible walls that don't make sense

Early Access Review
Can't recommend at the moment, given the pre-alpha nature. That aside, here's my general run down on the playable pre-"field from hell" part of the game.

-The voice acting is interesting. Well done!
-Most of the current content is non-interactive (most scenes are set in darkness, with an audio recording of you doing things. Occasionally letters pop up on screen to press, moving to the next recording)
-The "field" is a nightmare of invisible walls and broken interface. Before this I was intrigued if a bit bored. As far as I can tell, only 10 minutes of the game are playable.

Overall, interesting premise, marred at the moment by horrendous pre-alpha gameplay.

Ok, so it's an Alpha... don't worry about the bugs. I am sure they will be ironned out eventually.


This isn't really a game. It's more like a book. You don't have any control of anything you do. The biggest challenge is walking through dark tunnels. So dark that you could be staring at the ceiling and wouldn't even know. There is no game here, and by looks of the direction the Alpha is going, I don't think this will ever be a game. Seems more like a really long cinematic where everyone once in awhile you press a button to continue, blow a torch to continue, light a torch to continue.

But I purchased it like a dummy... I was tricked into buying a game that you walk around and do nothing. I will be trying it out time to time to see what else may unfold.
