About This Game

Action retro platformer.

Semi Visible Chickens. Hamster launchers. triple strength espresso, Armoured sentient mucus. Just a day in the office for Toxic Bunny.

Toxic Bunny is what would happen if the Looney Toons & Monty Python were heavily armed and thrown into a blender with the best (and worst) movies of the 90's and turned the results into a retro platform game.

Find out what happens when an almost normal rabbit gets into a really bad mood. Follow Toxic as he tries to find the person responsible for interrupting his coffee break, brainwashing all his friends and covering the planet with decaffeinated goo.

** Show general disregard for public safety by firing the NITRIC HAMSTER LAUNCHER (the only known weapon to guarantee a fatality).

** Giggle evilly as you squish aliens with rusty nautical equipment.

Combine awful controls with bad level design and falling damage in a platformer and you have the recipe for a truly gruesome game. Whoever thought that a really nice intro would make up for this mess of a game deserves a marketing Oscar. The ingame graphics look nothing like the art style used in the intro and the 10 second guitar riff will get on your nerves really quick. I should mention the really stupid puzzle design, but I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

Don't even waste 3€ with a coupon like me. Just avoid.

Toxic Bunny is a good-looking platformer, but that is all that's positive I have to say about it. The controls are incredibly unresponsive (and the tutorial was broken) and the way the enemies work is simply absurd - I could actually just WALK by them without really suffering any damage, at least at the beginning of the game. And if you do decide to fight them, you will notice that some of them do not really care for you, while others try to attack you so furiously that their animations almost break. Not a polished title, to say the least. Which is noticeable even more when you get stuck on a normal ground and have to jump over, well, nothing.
The game also does a terrible job when it comes to telling the player what he or she should do. While the giant green arrow points toward a boss, I had no idea I should drop of freakin' anchor on him. Sure, my character would say earlier that I should find someone to drop it on, but I did try to attack other enemies in this fashion and it didn't work. I'm still not sure what was the point of it. Cool concept, bad execution. And the difference between the difficulty levels is absurd - on normal, not having dropped the anchor, I hardly scratched the boss in a fight mano-a-mano. On easy - I shot it three times and bam, boss dead. Only after that I figured out I should have dropped the anchor on him. Needless to say I was confused. And still am.
To add insult to injury, although the game looks good, the world itself is ugly. Sure, it's a TOXIC, BAD bunny, so it has to look like that, but it's ugly nevertheless. Like one of those cartoons that are supposed to be "edgy" and aimed at "bad" kids who don't do their homework, and all the jokes revolve around barfing and farts. Which brings me to my next point - the humour. While the jokes in Toxic Bunny are not as crude as in the aforementioned example, they are a) scarce, b) have hardly anything to do with Looney Tunes or Monty Python (both are mentioned in the description, and both I adore).
To sum up, the game has clunky controls, looks ugly (though it is well drawn), and the humour - and the whole game - is simply bland. It is not really worth its price, especially since there are virtually billions of better (both modern and remakes) platformers. Unless you have played them all. Or you have always dreamed of a game about an unpleasant rabbit.

I couldn't get into this at all, and a lot of that was because the control just felt clunky and stiff. Platformers that have come out 20 years ago feel better than this.

I'll admit I haven't given it a very long try, but my first impression was not good at all.

Failed Old School Platform [KAMGUSTA's REVIEW]

Problem is, this "old school" is not the "good one": bad graphics (despite the "HD" suffix), terrible controls (that means endless failed jumps), dull gameplay, annoying characters. Maybe I could find something else, but I don't want to spend my time thinking about it.

By the way, my X360 Joypad wasn't recognized and I even wasn't able use my keyboard (keys didn't work) - LOL.

At least it has cards (and I don't need to use the keyboard for them...).

It does seem like a great game is in there somewhere, but I just can't recommend it until the controls are fixed. At the moment, even jumping up to a higher ledge is a chore, and there is a lot of that in this title.

Controls are broken. Movement isn't as fluid as the original. New sound effects are awful. Utterly broken.

And I deduced this from only a few minutes of play.

Avoid like the plague.

I could not find a single thing I liked about this game. The intro sequence runs at 15 FPS despite being an FMV, the default controls are godawful, the character controls extremely poorly even after you modify the controls to make sense, the art style is off-putting, the dialogue is painfully bad, the music is bland and uninspired at best and grating at worst (it is not possible to listen to the main menu music for any length of time),

But what made me stop playing was the tutorial. The game doesn't tell you what buttons to press to do anything and doesn't let you look at the controls unless you exit to the main menu, if any of the buttons work at all which they didn't my first time playing; I had to exit to the main menu and open the tutorial agan before the game arbitrarily decided to let me use the movement keys. Not to mention that it was extremely easy to render the tutorial outright unwinnable if you didn't know what controls did what; I ran into this twice, first when I killed the first enemy from a distance instead of walking inside his hitbox and using an item that killed both of us, second when I got to the shop and bought the first thing I was allowed to buy, only to find out that I was supposed to buy something else which was more expensive and now I didn't have enough money for it.

When the game refuses to tell you what to do and becomes unwinnable if you don't know what to do during the tutorial, you do not have a playable game.

The controls are the very worst I've ever seen on Steam. Please, make yourself a service and don't even try this game, even if you got it in a bundle like I did. I regret giving it a chance.

This game is very buggy. In short time I played I encountered multiple problems that caused me to have to restart each time.

On top of that is the terrible and clunky controls that make it extra frustrating to attempt play.

I bought on ♥♥♥ a random steam key for 0,99$
And I got this game.
I was like hmm seems ok maybe funny lets play!

I started up the game and I went in easy mode.
I clicked and smashed my whole keyboard and nothing happened.

3 hours later I tried it again and evertything worked out perfectly!

The jump is kinda bad and the way how you have to kill enemies is also not ok.

This game is absolutely awful. The controls are horrible. Controller support is terrible as well, as you can bind buttons in the configuration area, and then not even have them mapped correctly once you're in game. Analog stick support is bad as well, as the controls seem to get stuck in one direction. This does not happen in any other game, so I do not believe this is a problem with my xbox controller.
Weapons do not function well, and the movement of your character only exacerbates that. The movement is very stiff, and non fluid. Your character awkwardly moves from position to position, and if this is a problem with vsync, well the options menu give you no option to turn that on or off. In fact, the graphics controls consist of low/medium/high, and only a choice of resolution.
This game is not well done by any stretch, even the graphics are poor. By the way, an endlessly looping musical track that might be 6 seconds long?

Stay away, stay VERY far away. There is nothing redeemable about this game. It reminded me of early 90s PC platformers, but even those were better made than this. Says $6 for this. I wouldn't even accept this as a free gift, it's THAT bad.

The Greater Good
4.7 hrs
Posted: June 12, 2015
The Good:

  • hand-drawn sprites and levels, all very detailed and colorful
  • interesting, occasionally maze-like level design
  • humor that's somewhat reminiscent of Jazz Jackrabbit and sometimes even Earthworm Jim
  • elements like level puzzles, shops and an inventory make the game more complex than your average barebones platformer

The Meh:

  • the music tracks are so short that their constant repetition drove me insane (you can turn the music off completely, though, which I eventually did)
  • lackluster controller support; controllers have to be set up manually for one thing, but even then, I (using a 360 pad) experienced such hypersensitivity with the thumbsticks that I ended up using the d-pad for movement; if you have a gamepad with an excellent d-pad, this should not be an issue, but 360 users should be warned
  • on "Normal" and "Hard", *nothing* dies with one hit; not that big a deal overall, but definitely an occasional nuisance, especially in the beginning of the game when you're stuck with nothing but an ineffective and arching throwing weapon
  • some minor flaws that made the game seem a bit unpolished, like the save game thumbnail always displaying the wrong difficulty level, or the goal arrow occasionally pointing in the wrong direction
  • the map can be rather useless in some levels as it leaves out certain elements (like bridges), resulting in unexpected dead ends

The Ugly:

  • the controls are *the* major issue here; Bunny's movement feels almost unpredictable on occasion as his momentum is unnecessarily difficult to gauge and control, making tricky jumps (which are admittedly rather infrequent) overly frustrating; adding to this are quirks like the main character automatically sliding down slopes, which, too, affects momentum in hard to predict ways; the whole ordeal feels sluggish and inexcusably imprecise

It pains me a bit to say this, because I love hand-drawn platformers, especially when they remind me of the glory days of DOS gaming, but this is not a title that should be bought at full price. Give it a try if you get it on the (very) cheap or as a gift, but do not overspend on what is essentially an unpolished game that wasted its potential.

Fantastic game. I really don't understand why it has so many negative opinions. In the beginning, the controls are little bit problematic, but after few minutes, you are able to control the character without any problems.

- good soundtrack
- nice looking graphics
- cool ambiance

- too short

It's an old school platformer that has a sense of humor. I'm being dead honest, I loved playing this game. the graphics are nice and the controls at first were difficult to get accustomed to. Give the game a chance, and be patient with it. Also if you don't know what the controls are, because the tutorial really is a train wreck, just look at the button configure screen..It helped me out a lot. Very easy achievments too, got 45/55 in one playthrough.

The intro was great.

But then, I went into the config options to change some things around.
I changed the controls to better suit me. There's a lot of things to change.

I start the game and I cannot move.
ESC does not work. Nothing worked except Alt + Tab and Alt + F4.
So I do that and change the controls to default to see if it worked. It did.

I go play and the controls, as everyone said, kinda sucks. However, to me, it feels like all the other games like this.
Though, jumping sucks in this game.

I go back and forth trying to figure out what to do.
Apparently, I wasn't supposed to kill some creature, I was supposed to drop an anchor on him or her. Since I didn't do that, I assume I could not go future until I restart the game and do that all over again. Which was right near the beginning. But I really did not feel like it.

The first impression was not good to me. If this was one of my only games and I actually paid good money for it, I may have tried to play it for longer. However, since I forgot how much I bought this for through a bundle or however I got it, I did not care.

It isn't as bad as all the other bad games. I will give it that. This received more negatives than most horrible games that received mix.

Some reviews indicate that the controls suck and that it would make for bad jumping. yet, the user admit that it did not work on his keyboard or joypad. So.... I will assume, some of the reviews are just people who read the reviews and copied off of each other without putting their own thoughts into it.
