About This Game

Woodle Tree Adventures is an old school platform game with a catchy and unique art style! You will find all the classical elements from the 90's games and new interesting ideas.
Explore a total of 6 worlds and save the lands with the magical water drops you'll find through your journey, bringing back peace and balance and finally becoming the new hero!

The feeling of traveling around the game world is refreshingly peaceful. Woodle Tree is a great game to play if you want to relax, and the soundtrack and art style help giving a serene tone. Even if you’re not a fan of the genre, this game is still very much worth considering, even if only to witness the beautiful game world.

If you loved games like Banjo Kazooie and Mario 64, never fear, Woodle Tree will take you back to the good old days!

The whole gameplay is an hybrid between an art game and a platformer and is meant to be played by adults and children and to bring happiness to all souls.

Got me a free copy of this game to try out. My thoughts on the game now that I've completed it:

Story seems....well, I don't think think I should even call it a story....haha because there's no story; you rock up from the ground from some mother tree, that tree tells you to go look for waterdroplets and you traverse a few worlds collecting three droplets from each world and then you're done, the mother tree congrats you and then the end!

Partial support for Nvidia Optimus, this game runs on my Intel HD4600 automatically, but can be force via the right-click contet menu. Would be nice for full support for as at least it'd be using my GTX980M, giving me smooth 60 fps, rather than 20 fps on Fantastic settings @ 1080p...

Gameplay wise, well I pretty much described that in the story sentence above, but to add you get leaves, Green, Yellow, Orange and White - and you use these to flog off enemies.... I suppose you can play with another person that's around you for local coop, the other person would be controling a dog like character....

Oooh the camera angles! Why they not let us change camera angles via mouse or keys?? Some of the time, the camera angle would shoot from a flat shot so you're right looking at the character but don't know if you will be able to make the jump or not because you can't adjust the angles so you can see better! So you'll need to do a bit of guess work and hope you land on the other side! All the mouse does is zoom in and out, so you can't use your mouse to look around...

Graphics: Looks cheaply made....even with graphics settings on Fantastic level; actually I don't think I've noticed any change from Fantastic vs. Fastest, besides a huge fps drop!

Music/sound: I suppose they fit well with the game.

My bottomline? Well besides unable to change camera angles, it's an ok casual game.

So they've updated the review system, but still no neutral thumbs? Coz right now I don't feel like it deserves a thumbs up nor a thumbs down....it's like flat in the middle between them; however, considering it was bug/glitch(besides that one exploit...) free, was able to entertain me casually so that I could kill off time I had whilst waiting for something else and that I got it for free, vs. the no full Optimus support and unadjustable camera angles - I will vote thumbs up as it's slightly over to the positive side.

Oh yeah and this game would probably suit a child more than a teen or adult unless you got nothing else/better to do/play.

You're a stump that can... move?

TL;DR:
A Mario-esque like adventure platformer from the developer of Heaven Island - VR MMO. This game currently isn't worth the price it is at, so I would recommend either waiting until a sale or playing the demo and decide yourself. You will get 3/6 card drops and achievements that are attainable in a time frame of 2 - 5 hours as one will need an exploit to complete.

Review:
Woodle Tree Adventures starts with the birth of the hero, the player. You rise from the ground and are then subsequently greeted by your father who then gives his newborn son a task - bring water "to this thirsty world!" This sets the story for the rest of the game, you must collect fairy tears to unlock new stages to get more fairy tears. But that's not the only thing you can collect, you can also collect berries to unlock new gear and get achievements.

The last remaing feature of gameplay is combat - you have a few enemies to face or dodge. There is nothing unique with the controls, you are able to run, jump, attack and defend whilst directing Woodle with W,A,S,D if you're using a mouse and keyboard. But the main problem is camera control, or the lack there of. The camera makes it hard to move around, as it suddenly zooms in/out or changes the view completly, causing you to often fall off. Combined with hardly any checkpoints, this is irritating as you will be sent back to the start or a considerable amount away from where you were. I have yet to try out local co-op as not even my little sister (the games target market) wanted to play the game.

Audio is okay, however there was one level where the audio was irksome, I had to mute the game until the level was complete. The game comes with a free soundtrack but again the soundtrack isn't something special.Graphics do play a small role in this game as they introduce the theme of the level; but rather end up looking like something I made when I was teaching a 10 year old to use a game making software. If you get headaches and/or migranes easily, stay away from this game. Often the bright colours clash together and not in a good way, with textures also overlapping often. Animations are done well despite the graphics and movement is suprisingly fluid. The levels themselves aren't that creative, going with the true and tested themes of a beach and snowy mountins to mention a few.

To complete the set of cards you will need to get 6 cards in total, with 3 being droppend for playing the game. Personally the badges, emoticons and backgrounds aren't that good loking or creative; apart from the cloudy background which can be used creativley to create a pleasant artwork showcase.

Overall, if you just want the game for the achievements and card drops, wait until it's on sale as it sometimes goes down to £0.03. The game just isn't good enough to support the regular price of £1.99 as again this feels like another tester game from Fabio Ferrara.

In Woodle Tree Adventures, you can finally live out your wildest dream; being a solid piece of wood. As Woodle, you can finally realise the true potential of wood, and the magnificent life wood can lead. With a perfect voice actor portraying the wood beautifully, and a perfect in-game model representing the wood, never before has a game been so enjoyable, no other games come close to the perfection of the wood. The wood as been perfected to a fine art, and you can really feel it while playing the game.

Overall, a beautiful game with beautiful art and design.

10/10 wood play again.

As a veteran matser of this game i can definately reccommed it to another person. You play as the silent protagonist, who's goals and motives are your own. Place through the game and go on a brutal raid on the local forest; stealing the year's supply of berries from the natives, and collecting the tears of the fallen. Enjoy as your jam roll looking protagionist goes on amurderous rampage, killing all in sight.

I don't get why this has so many positive reviews, this was pretty awful.

Pros-
Woodle is kind of adorable (i'd buy a plushie of it)
Doesn't look too bad for the style it is

Cons-
Not much of a story
Bad camera
Not very good animations
You die in one hit
As far as I can tell, no checkpoints
No healthbar, lives or any sort of punishment for dying
Music is pretty boring

Meh

What is this game about?:
Dont let it trick you, THIS IS NOT A KIDS GAME. this is a cruel game about a revenge story. Woodle, a log born from the dying ashes of his mother, is set on a revenge to kill every demon in this hellish world. The demons are disguised as happy creatures, but dont let that fool you. You have to collect the tears of your fallen brothers, who sacrificed their life to save yours. (im only at lvl 4, but Im pretty sure ill have to fight demonlord aranaktu at the end)
How is the gameplay?:
This game is hard. Like dark souls hard. Remember those icy levels in mario? well, that + the camera angles of donkey kong 64, and woodle tree adventures is born. In this twisted world gravity doesnt work all the time, and if you die, back to start ♥♥♥♥♥ (although sometimes if you are lucky you will be able to spawn somewere in the middle of the map). Oh yeah, and those demons, all of them kill you with one hit. Not only demons will make you have cancer, also frikkin tentacle swinging ghouls. Nai shokushu! Oh and those "silly jumping puzzles" make deadcore look like childplay.
Well then should i buy this game?
Yeah man, if you go to the free steam key reddit page, you can get your copy of this game, but I recommend buying it. It is recommended to have some experience in hard games first. I suggest finishing super hexagon, dark souls, deadcore and doom on nightmare mode, before even considering playing this game

I have mixed feelings. I want to like this game.
It has a lot of potential to be much better if the dev put in the extra effort to polish it.

The controls are so close, but still feel very early access-y.
Add that on top of iffy hit boxes for enemies and platforms and it makes for potentially
very frustrating times.

Cameras are a bit frustrating too since you can only partially control them.
You can control zoom in/out, but not pan or pitch, which is horrible on certain levels.
Miss any platform and you fall into oblivion. So on levels where the camera stays low,
its almost impossible to see where the holes are.

As a result its difficult to see where exactly you are in relation to enemies and platform edges.
Some interactive objects, that you need in order to get to certain areas, like wind pillars that are supposed to lift you up, don't always work. Several times I would finally manage to get into them without just falling out the other side (because the character doesn't slow down once in) instead of lifting me up, i slowly float down helplessly...then fall out the other side.

Its too bad because my kids love it too, but they can't enjoy it for long before getting upset because of all the above.
And normally they hand the controller to me if something is too difficult. I wish it were just a matter of it being too
difficult, but it's not. The game is not difficult. It just needs to function consistently.

Id love to recommend this game because of how close it is to being done. But until the dev puts in the effort to polish out all the major glitches and hitboxes and bad camera, I can't recommend it. And that is a shame.
It should still be considered Early Access. the low price can't save it. It just needs to be tweaked and finished.
If that happens I will gladly change my review.

Now supposedly this game may have been updated since I last played it, so maybe some things were fixed. They could have added checkpoints in very long levels, or the good number of places that the camera angle was a hindrance and the camera is not at all in your control. Even then it would still be a clunky feeling platformer with an unsatisfying 'combat' mechanic and just enough levels to drag on too long without actually having that many levels.

This is a very charming game with cute graphics. It is very relaxing. A few camera angles are tricky to see things, but apart from that I love it. :) The aim of game as far as I can tell is to collect the water droplets.

I especially like the log man creature and the voice.

The concept is fine, the game looks fun, but it is incredibly difficult, not because of good game/level design but because of terrible camera/controls, have you ever played a 3D game where the camera randomly moves and you cant control it? if that is you kind of thing then this game is for you.

The game is cute, I can attest to that among other reviewers, but the game has a bunch of problems on the side too. First of all Woodle moves like a block of wood and not in a good way, the controls are too sluggish and slow for the stage environments. I understand there may be kids playing this, but it wouldn’t hurt if the protagonist can move slightly faster than a snail.

The camera angle leaves a lot to be desired as well, often times I would be struggling to see where I’m jumping and forced to estimate my landing spot, this is artificial difficulty and pure annoyance.

Beyond the above issues, the game did run fine enough on its own and I’m happy with the amount of content available. Thus for the current asking price, I would recommend this as an afternoon distraction, and it might not be a bad idea to get it for a younger kid either.
