About This Game

Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in the Hotel Lisbon

Murder in the Hotel Lisbon is a videogame inspired by the classic point and click adventures from the 80’s and 90’s. It adopts these eras distinctive design and it is built using only the pixel art technique. The game itself runs at a native resolution of 256x192, the same resolution used by the old ZX Spectrum 48k and most recently by the Nintendo DS.

A strange murder has occurred in the Hotel Lisbon, a man committed suicide with 14 stabs to the back while at the same time he peacefully drank his coffee.
This case with contradictory facts was too complex for Policeman Garcia to solve, so he decided to hire the only detective duo in town capable of solving it: the mythical Detective Case and the unmistakable Clown Bot.
Together, they will solve a network of love relations so complex and so intricate, that it would take at least 14 clairvoyants, 5 apocalyptic sect prophets who can predict the end of the world and 3 of those gypsies that can read the palm of your hand just to guess the final outcome.

With the mythical Detective Case, also known as the world worst detective, a man so rough and rude that his witnesses would rather be run over by a slow moving freight train than to be questioned by him.
And the hilarious Clown Bot who, although he works as a Detective Case’s sidekick, he hopes in reality that one day he will get a job as a circus clown. Unfortunately, and no matter how many applications he sends, no circus will ever accept a clown that is afraid of children. He never sleeps, so besides working by day as a sidekick, he also works by night as a stand-up comedian in a local bar. People say that he is a joke machine.

Original soundtrack

Murder in the Hotel Lisbon may be low res and retro on the visual side, but we made sure that on the audio side your ears would rejoice with a complete original soundtrack. Composed of an orchestral band, a jazz band and a typical Portuguese Fado trio, the musical landscape contrasts beautifully with the colorful graphics.

Game music
Throughout the game you will ear over 20 different tracks of orchestral music composed and recorded specifically for the game.
All these tracks were recorded on studio with a 10 member band composed of friends and colleagues. All of them brought their soul and heart to these recordings and the results are absolutely AWESOME!

Jazz music
Inside the GAF Bar, a 4 man band plays some cool Jazz.
The character at the Piano is actually Filipe Melo who is doing a cameo and allowed us the rights to use some songs recorded previously with John Ellis, Romeu Tristão and João Pereira! BAM!

Fado music
To top it all, inside the Noitadas Restaurante we have a Portuguese Fado trio ready to entertain the guests. The song they sing was also recorded on studio. It is called "A Caldeirada" and it was originally written for famous Fado singer Amália Rodrigues.

You love next-generation-graphics and high definition sounds. You like your games as dry as an desert and funny jokes is something that you only admire when it includes you giggling about the noobs an the Counter Strike Server?

Well, get outta here! This game is the washed up but unclean scenerio of da stupidest punchlines ever served.
Who ever said that an robot couldn't tell jokes? Who ever said this game would be about the robot? NO!

This game is about P.I. Detective that never lost an Case in his name and only than also about an robot telling jokes that no one can stand.

Investigate on the cruel crime of an lost baton and an wild "Nerd Monkey" running, well, wild and in your spare time you could also try to solve the case of the Murder, but it is not important and maybe to hard to solve in the first place.

If you didn't like this review, than better don't buy this game and return to your FPS-shooters.

8/10 Because of the burning image of the young lady with beard stubble that I might never get out of my brain.

Just finished this funny lil' game and i'm ready to do a decent review :)

I really enjoyed playing this game for 5 main reasons :

1- Style, this dev team sure ain't copying any games you've seen, they got their own style & it's perfect this way :)

2- jokes & global ambiant... I'm out of word... epic / surprising / entertaining as f*ck would be my resume, many references to classic :p

3- music : i didn't expect it but i ended up singing those weird sound.

4- characters & story : very unique or very cliche, you could argue on that ^^

5- hidden stuff : won't spoil that part but for example i got a success for playing this game in early morning :D

Overall pretty epic game, bit too short for me i really hope these Nerd Monkeys will be able to do other games :) if u enjoy investigating & funny dialogue, jump right on this game !!!

Nostalgic for most of the players and a great example of what Portuguese developers can do if given an opportunity. The humour is rather portuguese so I believe that all portuguese steam users should own this one!

This is a wonderful fun game for people who like mystery, comedy, puzzles and point and click adventures. This applies especially to portuguese people and people that are interested in portuguese culture because it has a lot of that.

Relatively short, silly point-and-click adventure game. Graphics are decent (pixel-cartoony), story is okay, but it's really the banter and humor that carries the game. You talk to people, collect items, then do a fun but simple 'interrogation' where you ask the right question along with the right item (and then repeat). It's not hard to get through the game because there are no puzzles (you just need to collect items for interrogations and speak to the right people to progress). Separate from the main mode, there's also a minigame mode where you complete lots of puns (timed multiple choice), if that's your type of thing.

Most of the game is light-hearted and relatively child-friendly but later on there are some words and name-calling that you might not want children to learn, and some sexual implications you might not want to explain if they're not old enough.

If you like quick and simple adventure games with humor, this might give you a couple hours of entertainment.
