Normally I like to go through and create a huge list of what's good and what's bad about the game, but with "Putt-Putt: Pep's Birthday Surprise," I don't really think that that is necessary. This is the most high end game I have ever played. It's practically a visual novel. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys only to play real game.

My son 6 1/2 enjoyed this game! The graphics are more polished than the old games and he enjoyed the egg and cow mini challenges. I read reviews putting me off (ha no pun intended) due to change in character voice, but this is a more modern game. I got it on sale for around £1.50 and took my son a few hours to complete so well worth it.

I haven't played enough but I'll give you guys my two cents about this game.

Become Ruler of the World by establishing and leading Putt-Putt from the dawn of man into the space age: Wage war, conduct diplomacy, discover new technologies, go head-to-head with Pep and build the most powerful empire the world has ever known.

BELIEVABLE WORLD: Ultra realistic graphics showcase lush landscapes for you to explore, battle over and claim as your own. Art deco influences abound in the menus and icons in the most well-designed Putt-Putt ever developed.
COMMUNITY & MULTIPLAYER: Compete with Putt-Putt players all over the world or locally in LAN matches, mod the game in unprecedented ways, and install mods directly from an in-game community hub without ever leaving the game. Putt-Putt brings community to the forefront.
WIDE SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY: Putt-Putt operates on many different systems, from high end DX11 desktops to many laptops. Enjoy unlimited installations on multiple PCs with your Steam account and take your Putt experience with you everywhere you go.
ALL NEW FEATURES: A new hex-based gameplay grid opens up exciting new combat and build strategies. City States become a new resource in your diplomatic battleground. An improved diplomacy system allows you to negotiate Pep. Custom music scores and orchestral recordings give Putt-Putt the level of polish and quality you expect from the series.

Putt-Putt is my Lord and Savior but I cannot sit idly by while this game crashes on startup. THIS IS BOLOGNA PUT PUTT!!! START YOUR ENGINE AND GIVE ME LIFE.

edit: this isn't a ♥♥♥♥in joke. Whenever I shut this game down after like th 10th time it will never start up unless I uninstall all of my games, then uninstall the steam client, and then I have to install this as the first game and start it or else it will not start.

P.S. hope this doesn't happen to any other followers of the convertable gospel.

Praise be to putt.

It's weird writting a negative review for a point-and-click adventure game aimed at a younger audience. Not because my standards for them are low, but because usually they are very interesting and fun despite the fact I am now an adult. However, Putt-Putt: Pep's Birthday Surprise is a lazy cash-in to a franchise after the original company (Humongous) was absorbed by Atari. Backgrounds are blatantly reused from older games, there's something horribly wrong with the audio (as in I can hear the microphone Putt-Putt's actor used during all of his lines), the voice-acting is stiff, and when I tried to give this game a second chance, the cut scenes kept glitching on me, something I didn't expect from this kind of game. In a game where you're just supposed to have fun and figure out what to do, it's somehow completely devoid of anything resembling fun.

Putt-Putt was always my least favorite of the main Humongous Entertainment games, but they were good, with this one major exception. This game is terrible, I urge you to not cave in and try it for yourself.

I can already tell that this game is beautifully written and has one of the most intriguing plots of video game history. Putt-Putt®: Pep's Birthday Surprise shows the story of a post-apocalyptic wasteland where humans have mutated with vehicals and the struggles/importance of keeping up morale in a world where survival is easier said than done. This is shown through the Pep, the main character's trusty prisoner who has been kidnapped and abused all his life, and his journey to find a reason to continue living. The objective is to keep Pep from killing himself by throwing him a party, which is a unique plot device for an indie project such as this. When people say video games can't be art, I show them Putt-Putt®: Pep's Birthday Surprise.

Ever since my daughter was 3 years old we came across a game series called Putt-Putt... its a point and click adventure with basic logic problems. Your child only need be familiar with the very basics of using a mouse. There is nothing in it that a parent would disapprove of. If you're looking for a game for your child that doesn't have hitting or violence of any kind...this is the game...or game series.

My daughter is 6 now and still loves it...even though she is tearing through it much faster :)

Cheers

This is the worst Putt-Putt game (although it's not completely awful). It just lacks the imaginative environments and characters of the previous games so it's not very exciting. The animation is worse than the other games and the voice actor changed again (worst one yet!). There is less gameplay and lengthier animated scenes, which isn't helped by the sloppier animation. The key creativity left Humongous before this game was made and it definitely shows that this is just a quick cash-in.

Whether you're looking for nostalgia or a kids game, any of the other Putt-Putts are better.

I knew in advance that this one wasn't made by the original team and by god does it show. The voices sound AWFUL. Considering they've never been great, either...
The dialogue has also been dumbed down to the point of being insulting, the puzzles are barely puzzles, there's so much reused scenes and animations... it's just a cash grab version of the older games with no effort put into it. Really, avoid this one. Not really even part of the series as far as I'm concerned.

Putt Putt's voice is deeper, the voice acting is all around horrible (even for a Putt Putt game), and waiting for everyone to talk is painful. Save your time and money and don't play this game. Play a better one, Like Putt Putt Saves the Zoo.
