Out now for Linux!

Hi everyone!

We've finally released the Linux version of Detective Grimoire here on Steam! We had some delays with distribution licences, but we're all good to go now.

Those of you who already bought a copy of the game will find the Linux version available for download in your Steam libraries!

I should mention here too that this game runs with Adobe AIR, but we managed to get a licence to distribute it as a standalone runtime, that doesn't install, it just sits there in the games directory, and can be completely removed just by deleting that directory. That should mitigate any security concerns, since the Linux AIR is so old now! It should also run pretty well on a lot more distros than the usual AIR install!

Cheers,
Tom-

A short, but fun adventure game.

The story is fairly interesting and the dialogues are fun to read, especially some of Grimoire’s snarky lines. And very good voice acting definitely adds to enjoyment!

Gameplay isn’t one bit challenging, but finding pieces of evidence, questioning suspects and piecing together what has happened is still fun if you are looking for a more relaxing gameplay. Puzzles could use more complexity, though, even for a casual game.

If you are looking for a short casual game to pass a few hours with, Detective Grimoire has my full recommendation!

Detective Grimoire is a delight; it's a perfect game for fans of point and click adventure games with a mystery slant.

Pros:
- Colourful, wonderful animation style.
- Quirky and interesting characters.
- Clean and easy to understand UI.
- Clues and notes were easy to access and read.
- GREAT voice acting and dialog. Genuinely funny at times.
- I loved being able to click on a map to quickly travel around the game area.
- Fantastic music and sound.
- Super fun system of deduction.

Cons:
- Few puzzles.
- Puzzles were extremely easy.
- The challenge system was a bit tedious. If you answer a question incorrectly you have to repeat it all over again.
- Short! I'm excited for a sequel :D

This is a fun point and click detective adventure. It is aimed at a younger audience but is fun for adults as well. The characters are cute and the storyline is engaging. The achievements are not too challenging and I was able to beat the game with 100% completion in 3 hours or so. This would also be a great game for those who speak English as a second language since it uses fairly basic English to tell the story and in its puzzles. Highly recommended!

Detective Grimoire is probably the closest you can get to an Ace Attorney style game on the PC (and if I'm wrong, please tell me cause I want to buy more AA style games). Made by a couple dudes who graduated from the Newgrounds school of flash games, DG has quirky characters, good voice acting and a GREAT soundtrack. The story is pretty simple, almost a Scooby Doo story. The owner of a theme park in the middle of a swamp has been murdered and people think it's the work of a swamp monster. Enter you as the titular detective, going around finding clues, questioning suspects and breaking psych-lo....err completing character challenges. The only complain I have is that the game is quite easy. It's also only around 2-3 hours long but since the game's MSRP is 7$, it's not really a problem.

TL;DR Ace Attorney on Steam.

The art and characters are really quirky and cute. I loved the music and voice acting was really cool. No complaints with the production. Some elements of it reminded me of Ace Attorney / Professor Layton. Really hard to find games with that gameplay style so I appreciate the idea of making Detective Grimoire in somewhat the same style.

However, in terms of difficulty (for me), there's little to no challenge in the puzzles and most point and click tasks are obvious. The /storytelling and narration/ was great but the storyline is very linear, weak and somewhat boring.

I /do not/ recommend buying this game if you're looking for a challenge or a complicated storyline. Also if you're into spending hours trying to solve mysteries, this game is too short for that.

I /do/ recommend it if
1.) You know a younger child or audience who might be interested in the genre. It seems to be more of a game targetted for a younger audience.
2.) f you're looking for a quickfix, detective game and a artstyle to immerse yourself in for 1-2 hours.

Overall, I recommend this game for its art direction and production quality.

it feels like someone was making a phoenix wright game but then only finished making the first case, but it's cheap enough that i didn't really mind because it was good anyways (also you can get it in the humble weekly bundle for $1 at the time of this writing)

Quite a delightful adventure game about storybook detective and his quest to solve a murder perpetrated by a cartoon monster of all things. A must try for anyone who likes a game with a distinct personality and vibe.

Detective Grimoire is a beautiful, fun -even funny sometimes- and well made game. It has some interesting mechanisms (like combining clues to form sentences) and a non-annoying background music. Each character is unique, memorable, likable and exploring the swamp is enjoyable.

Unfortunately the puzzles are way too easy. Seriously, if you like puzzle/adventure games you'll probably think someone is playing a joke on you. It gave me the impression it was made for elementary students. That's not a bad thing though, especially if you're aware of it beforehand.
Despite initially hoping it would have some interesting puzzles, and subsequently being very disappointed because it didn't, I still had a good time. I'll even consider trying the sequel that's been hinted at.

On the plus side, if you care about this sort of stuff, it's a very easy game to 100%, and drops 5 trading cards.

The game is OK and good for having been selected by Greenlight indies but lacks challenge.
“To Be Continued” is at the end of the episode but there is no update guaranteed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros:
Water painting cartoon style of art;

Intuitive control(Point & Click);

Simple English, no fancy detective/law words;

VC (Voice Character) featuring Amber Lee Connors as “Sally Spears”, the woman by the souvenir store. Really seductive, not gonna lie :P

Cons:
Too short, 2hrs to complete and 3hrs for collecting & full achievements;

Plot is captivating but flawed which the flowers were not being chosen as evidence which, the pedals out of place, showing the whereabouts of the suspect.;

Having no stamina system (the one in Ace Attorney) means you can inquire the suspect over and over again. No sense of failure guaranteed, I promise;

The end of the case completed in a hurry, just linear assumptions and proof giving, not systematic analysis.

Cutscene animation is in LOW resolution, a pity.
Music (or tracks) only 4or5 tracks playing repeatedly;

Quote Grimoire: “It’s a fork in the road. How ‘non-linear’. “The game just does the opposite.

Nice art style and atmosphere, but the writing and puzzles were pretty weak. Super short, too, even for the price.

This is a very fun sleuthing game that I can seriously recommend to anyone who likes games. It challenging enough to keep your attention but not so hard as to make you lose interest. It's a little on the short side but for less than ten bucks it's well worth it. The story is fun, the characters are very likable and it's an all-around great experience. I can't wait to play the sequel.

One part Phoenix Wright, one part Professor Layton, all parts awesome.

While Detective Grimoire might not have the deepest story, the largest game world, or the most difficult puzzles ever to appear in a point-and-click adventure game, it does have some of the funniest dialogue I've heard in a long, long time. Combined with a unique graphical style and good music, the game deserves a rousing two-thumbs-up.

I will note, though, that the actual gameplay components are very simple and even the most complex brainteaser in the game will prove very little of a threat to anyone with a fully functional brain. Like many games in the adventure subgenre, it occasionally employs its' own unique sense of logic that might require you to "think outside the box", proverbially speaking. Just a hint; the answer is always much simpler than you're making it out to be.

This game is fantastic. Though a bit on the short side (it runs about 2 hours) it's jam packed with detail that makes it a great quick play. The story is original, the cast quirky and fun. But the best part is you really feel like you're being a detective as you gather clues and observe everything and I mean EVERYTHING. To get a complete in this game you must leave no stone unturned quite literaly. You never know where a clue will be or just a fun throw away joke. Surpisingly for such a straightfoward game there is a lot of replay value if you ever want to just have a cute pick me up. Highly recommended.

I really liked this game. The plot is captivating, the dialogues are fun and the characters are memorable. I must admit the game is not hard, you can finish it in about 2 hours, but I'm sure you will not regret spending your time on it. 5/5 for me!

It may be short, and it may be simple but darn if it isn't a remarkably likable and fun point and click murder mystery. I did enjoy the seemingly "H.P. Lovecraft made an E for Everyone game" vibe this game has.

Will you play it for hours on end? No.

Will you enjoy every minute you play? Yes.

Charming little detective adventure that does a lot of things right. You're Detective Grimoire, a laidback, mildly sarcastic sleuth sent to investigate a death on a secluded swamp getaway. The gameplay area consists of less than twenty different locations around the bayou, but is stuffed full of memorable characters to converse with and lots of clues to discover.

Detective Grimoire has obviously been designed for tablets, but the game transcends its origins simply by not dumbing down stuff needlessly. Sure, the game is not terribly hard since its designed for people of all ages to enjoy, but you do need to use your brain to actually make conclusions based on the evidence you're presented with. For the most part, it feels like you're doing real detective work instead of just solving random puzzles.

Production values are high as well, with fitting music, good writing, marvelous voicework and a rather unique, painterly graphics style that reminds me a bit of Day of the Tentacle. Overall, everything fits together really well, and it's maybe even a bit hard to fully appreciate the game because of how completely slick it is. If you have even a slight interest in adventure games, check this one out - You'll probably walk away with a warm fuzzy feeling after a couple of hours.
