Mindlessly fun third-person shooter with sci-fi elements.

While showing love for games like Virtual On and anime such as Robotech, the clunky controls, confusing visual style and simply underwhelming models can't make up for an interesting-enough set of mechanics and objectives, as ultimately the quests and goals fall into fast repetition. If being a transforming jet REALLY makes you jolly, wait for it to be on discount. :)

That's an example of game that aged well. It's still very playable (I never played it before) and graphics are not painful for eye. It feels good enough for a price on a sale, althoguh many people could obtain it for free.

Pros:
- Amazing, fast-paced gameplay
- Variety of single player missions
- Two ways to play, either on the ground or in the air
- Good graphics, soundtracks and sound effects (note the release year 2003)

Cons:
- Camera is sometimes in very awful angles from which you can't see anything
- Buggy on today's systems, sometimes after a mission all the texts are almost like from matrix. Although a simple restart of the game is the fix for this :)

Amazing game for its years, first released for PC in 2003. This is a childhood game for me personally :P
Worth the price if you grab this masterpiece off sale, must-grab if it's free :D

Pros:
- Awesome, fast-paced gameplay
- Large variety of different single player missions
- Two ways to play, either on the ground or in the air
- Good graphics, soundtracks and sound effects (note the release year 2003)

Cons:
- Camera is sometimes in very awful angles from which you can't see anything
- Buggy on today's systems, sometimes after a mission all the texts are almost like from matrix. Although a simple restart of the game is the fix for this :)
And what I meant with the mentioned "today's systems" is that the game was designed to support Windows XP as the latest OS, so everything newer than that will bug the game out.
At least for me it has been pretty buggy experience on newer OS than XP :/
- This game had and still has a lot potential. Some things worth mentioning would be multiplayer or even game reboot to the current gen.

Transformers copy done right.

PROS :
Controller support (the default Mapping need some adjustments)
Nice sounds.
Trading cards.
Many weapons upgrades.
Different enemies to encounter.
Decent story (14 missions)

CONS :
Outdated graphics (but it feel somehow good)
The map are big but empty like there's no buildings or forests...etc only sand and some bushes or trees here and there.
Worst camera control i've ever seen.
Can't choose difficulty (it begins to get harder when reaching the finals missions)
Some visual glitchs.
For the price, you might want to buy it on discount or with a coupon.

▂▃▅▇█ Final judgement : 70/100 █▇▅▃▂

If you are fan of mechs, robots, Macross and Gundam with no issues of modest graphics, get this game.

Note: If the game doesn't run with an error message "Video card isn't supported" just run it with the compatibility set on Windows XP SP2 or SP3. And if it's runs slow on your laptop, make sure to set it to run with your better GPU from Nvidia/AMD Control Panel.

Gun Metal is a fast-metal mecha action game. You have a Robot that transforms into an airplane on-the-fly with a range of weapons.

The gameplay is simple, shoot down the enemies and destroy their units in a med-large world.

You are free to move in the map however you like, either by moving or flying.

It's so simple in concept but really fun in action.

You know how in every American television series, whether it be a sitcom or an HBO production, there's an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kid playing some ridiculous game with bloops and pew pews, and a generic drum & bass track. Well, guess what, this is what they were playing. It's good. Go ahead, buy it. If you seek his monument, look around

A decade after it's initial release, and Gun Metal is still awesome. For me, this game is a masterclass in focussed design. It doesn't try to be clever, with lots of gimmicks that are only there for their own sake. It just gives you good, solid, arcade-style action, and it does it extremely well. Your mech isn't loaded with three dozen special features that you completely forget about in the heat of the action. It does a limited number of things, but those are the only things you need it to do, and they all feel relevant. Running, strafing, transforming, boosting, barrel-rolling to dodge fire, and all the while firing, firing, firing on the enemy.

Yes, it does betray it's Xbox origins in the slightly awkward mouse control and limited graphics options, but honestly, once you dive in and get blasting, it all feels very natural. The barrel-rolling to dodge in jet mode feels particularly intuitive, as it's on the keys you use for strafing in mech mode (A and D by defaut as you'd expect). And you can always plug a control pad in if you find the mouse control a bit too hazy.

As far as I'm aware there's only one voice in the game, the guy who gives you orders, and he puts in a good performance. Maybe not award-winning, but solid, with simple dialogue, no ridiculous cringe-inducing histrionics, and status updates and encouragements as you progress through each mission. It's nice to actually be told you're doing well instead of being berated for something or other all the time! =P

In closing, if you want some simple, straightforward action with just enough depth to be engaging without being overwhelming, Gun Metal is for you.

Whoo! Robots! Explosions! Gun Metal is best summed up as Micheal Bay: The Video Game. Explosions, guns, robots, and a lot of ridiculous fun.

In my local currency this game goes for 1.70 on a 90% discount. Bought it on the premise of being a mech and fighter jet. Not disappointed, at all.

It's short, with about 4 hours of gameplay but it delivers solid fun. It's not overly complicated and does not try to be so and it's honesty is laudable.

Trust me, get it. Good arcady action that you'll lose yourself into and now it has Steam cards, for all those Steam aficionados like me.

Addendum: For those other reviews mentioning the control scheme, it's better to use mouse and keyboard than controller plug-in. With M+KB you can aim with more precision, they aiming reticule is not locked to nose only (you can shoot in 30-45 degress to the sides, up and down while flying forward).
